Awakened humans—the proud children of heaven—can use mental power to pilot starships and explore the cosmos. Ming Yu, the second son of the prestigious Ming family of the Central Star Region, i...
Chapter 6 Design Draft
The biomechanical heart of a starship is also the part that starship designers spend their brain cells constantly changing and improving.
The heart's mechanical material and design vary depending on the type of starship, but the cost of each starship's heart is the same.
The biological portion of the Biomechanical Heart was originally obtained from the now extinct White Beast, but is now entirely laboratory-grown.
These alien white beasts possessed powerful vitality and a gentle, tolerant spirit. Their hearts and brains were one organ, and they became extinct due to their difficulty in reproducing.
Humanity preserved the last white beast's heart, sliced it, and cultured it to regenerate it. After hundreds of years of research, humans completed the prototype of the starships commonly used today.
By combining the heart of the White Star Beast with mechanical computing and biosensing, humans can directly control starships through mental power and thoughts.
More importantly, when the mental power of the driver and observer flows into the mechanical heart and is then pumped out again... the energy of the mental power will be amplified several times by the biological mechanical heart, giving it stronger detection and attack power.
Mu Baixing did not make any major changes to the complex neural center area of the starship, only changing the routes in and out of the neural center.
Mingyu's pen tip moved along the line drawn by Mu Baixing, and his lips became tighter and tighter.
"How dare you..." he muttered to himself, "How come there isn't even a regulating valve for the mental power circuit... You dare to drive, but I don't dare to sit..."
This device disconnects the starship's psychic connection when the pilot or observer's psychic energy is about to overload, ejecting a backup console and reverting the starship to manual control. While the starship's agility and speed are significantly inferior to those under psychic control, it can still safely navigate the universe for a short period of time.
And if the mental power is overloaded and out of control... the starship will crash directly.
In order to meet the needs of the colorful hairy guys, Mu Baixing changed the route of the starship. It was not known whether it was because he was not sure about the position of the loading regulating valve after the route was changed or because he had completely forgotten about this device, but this layer of insurance was completely missing from his design draft.
Mingyu shuddered.
He thought of Admiral Ming Zhuofeng, the hero of the Battle of Dawn fifty years ago, who had led the fleet to defend the satellite line and keep the Black Tide out of the central star field with a 3S-class ship. He was also the older brother of Ming Yu's father, Ming Zhilang.
During the Battle of Dawn, Ming Zhuofeng's mental domain collapsed on the battlefield due to being connected to the starship for a long time, and he collapsed in the starship's cockpit. The 3S-class starship Explorer he was piloting lost control and crashed into the Black Tide.
The use of regulating valves was rapidly promoted after this accident. Following the lessons learned through blood and tears, the Central Star Region required that every starship be equipped with a mental force regulating device.
Mingyu: It’s really worth it that Mu Baixing failed the starship designer exam!
It seems that the man has no basic safety knowledge at all!
Mingyu quickly found the correct position and installed a mental regulating valve on Mu Baixing's driving route.
The Star Navigation Competition qualifiers take place in the virtual environment of the Star Network, but adhere to a rigorous simulation mechanism: each competitor is provided with a competition capsule, through which data is transmitted. The capsule not only accurately reproduces the physical state of the competitor, but also transmits any injuries sustained during the competition into reality.
Although the severity of the injury would be reduced, for example, death in the game would only result in hospitalization due to serious injuries in real life... but Mingyu did not want to be hospitalized because of a starship crash, and he did not want to experience the feeling of being near death when a starship crashed.
He also doesn't want to be eliminated in the first round because of this reason.
Mingyu: This thing must be installed!
Mingyu spent an entire evening making rough revisions to the starship design, and the detailed changes would take at least another day. He would then need to visit the Starship Designers Association and access a supercomputer to verify the feasibility of the blueprints... If anything wasn't right, he would have to make repeated adjustments.
After the feasibility test is passed, communication and adjustments with the driver are still required.
Mingyu rubbed his forehead.
To design such a special starship that can carry non-awakened humans, the three days of pre-race running-in time are a bit stretched.
He took another bag of nutrient solution, then sat down again and worked hard, speeding up the drawing process and concentrating his mind. His brain had never worked so fast before.
Mingyu was so focused on the manual driving system design in his mind that he didn't notice that while he was thinking quickly, he subconsciously extended his colorless mental tentacles.
Those psychic tentacles, invisible to the human eye due to their low energy levels, were remarkably active. Their ends dissolved, no longer slender threads of psychic power, but transformed into flickering points of light too invisible to the naked eye. In the dim light of the room after nightfall, the light converged and dispersed, like clusters of nebulae. Countless calculations were taking place within them, causing the nebulae's appearance to constantly shift.
Mingyu only felt that his thoughts were clearer than ever before.
He didn't know what kind of changes had occurred in the form of his mental energy, nor did he know how special such changes were.
The transformation of mental power only occurs in awakened people above level C. However, Mingyu's mental power at this time was so weak that even the detection equipment could not detect it.
The hands of the clock are jumping forward.
The star clusters formed by Mingyu's spiritual power merged and coalesced, gradually shrinking before expanding slightly and shrinking again. A day later, the last bit of light from the star cluster disappeared, and Mingyu put down his electronic pen.
He had a splitting headache and collapsed on the chair, letting out a long sigh.
The pain in his brain felt like a chisel, trying to punch through his head from the inside out. Mingyu had never experienced a headache like this before, and he couldn't bear it any longer, so he lay down on the table and fell asleep for a while.
But he knew that the starship design was not yet finished, so he only lay there for less than an hour. After his headache eased a little, he held up his eyelids and stretched his arms to reach the virtual helmet hanging on the wall.
Mingyu connected to the star network and entered the starship designer headquarters to verify the feasibility of modeling this design drawing.
Based on his previous experience designing starship blueprints, this feasibility verification step can take anywhere from a day to a week. The starship designer needs to adjust the design back and forth based on the system's simulation calculations.
Mingyu hoped that he would be luckier this time and that the number of revisions he needed would be limited to less than ten. If each revision didn't take too long, then the remaining time would be enough.
He looked depressed as he entered the modeling area of the designer's headquarters and rushed straight to the modeling room.
Rows of modeling rooms lined the corridor, most with "in use" screens lit. Only the last room at the end of the hallway had a vacant space. Mingyu pulled out his designer certification, swiped his card, and was about to enter when someone suddenly pushed his shoulder from behind.
Mingyu: “Hey…!”
He didn't pay much attention to the situation around him. The man behind him was too strong, and Mingyu was pushed into the wall at the end of the corridor, hissing in pain.
"My shoulder must have been bruised," Mingyu thought. The blow was so hard that it made his head hurt less.
The fatigue and sleepiness were also driven away by this collision.
Mingyu raised his head and saw a burly man with a strong build standing in front of him.
"Move aside." The other person's voice was hoarse, looking down at him, and he said unhappily, "Our Master Lan wants to use this modeling room!"
