He was reborn, returning to his miserable starting point in high school, where he was strung along and treated as a servile dog by the school beauty.
In his previous life, his humble efforts ...
Lin Zhengguo rested his hands on the edge of the table, staring at Han Feng with a furrowed brow. He was quite shocked by the list of personnel Han Feng had just mentioned who were going to R country.
“I can understand Liu Xiaoran,” Lin Zhengguo said in a deep voice. “After all, he comes from an ancient martial arts family. His close combat skills are excellent, his firearms skills are outstanding, and his mental fortitude is stable.” He raised his head, his eyes filled with obvious doubt. “But Su Wanwan? Why is she on your list? She’s not even a combatant; she’s just a technician.”
Han Feng stood in the projected light and shadow, his silhouette sharply outlined by the blue light. He didn't answer immediately, but instead pulled up a mission recording. On the screen, Su Wanwan's fingers flew across three monitors, breaching the firewall of a certain country's embassy in just thirty seconds.
"Last time, facing an attack on the firewall by foreign spies, she single-handedly crippled their entire surveillance system." Han Feng paused the video. "During the rescue operation in Qi City, she was the first to locate the enemy's hideout and the place where Liu Mengran was being held." Another video flashed by. "Not to mention..."
"I know all that." Lin Zhengguo raised his hand to interrupt, "Su Wanwan's hacking skills are indeed outstanding, but R Country isn't an ordinary mission. What we need are people who can escape unscathed in a hail of bullets, not technicians hiding in safe houses."
Han Feng's lips curled slightly as he pulled up another set of data: "Su Wanwan also participated in combat skills training before, and even defeated the other male team members twice." He looked directly into Lin Zhengguo's eyes, "She may not be a heavy-duty firepower like Iron Tower, nor a stealthy warrior like Night Owl, but her self-defense ability is more than sufficient."
A brief silence fell over the room. A faint hum emanated from the air conditioner vents, and dust particles could be seen floating in the projector beam.
"Even if she's capable," Lin Zhengguo still didn't turn around, "why does it have to be her? Longyuan has over a dozen technical experts, many of whom are highly experienced in combat."
As the projector in the room was turned off, the room suddenly went dark. Han Feng walked to Lin Zhengguo's side and lowered his voice: "Because she's the only person whose record in the Dragon Abyss database is almost nonexistent."
Lin Zhengguo's body stiffened almost imperceptibly for a moment.
"You previously made an exception and recruited her and me into Longyuan, skipping the regular file entry process." Han Feng's gaze fell on Su Wanwan in the distance. "For all subsequent missions, her participation records were individually encrypted, and her access level was two levels higher than that of other members at the same level."
Lin Zhengguo finally turned his head, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes: "How come you...?"
"I guessed," Han Feng chuckled, "but judging from your reaction, I was right."
Lin Zhengguo stared at Han Feng for a few seconds, then suddenly shook his head and laughed: "My judgment back then was right, you're a monster." He walked back to the table, looked at Han Feng, and said, "Continue."
Han Feng pulled up the database overview of Longyuan members: "Regular Longyuan members have participated in an average of 7.3 international missions each. Although this data is encrypted, there's no guarantee it won't be cracked by quantum computers in some countries." His fingertip hovered over three names, "As for me, Liu Xiaoran, and Su Wanwan—our combined mission records are less than five, and two of them were directly commanded by me, outside of the mission sequence. The level of secrecy is beyond question."
"Liu Xiaoran just passed the selection process, his file is practically empty; I'm a 'connected' person you specially recruited, my record has been specially processed; Su Wanwan is even more of a 'ghost'." Han Feng placed his hands on the table, "No matter how powerful R country's intelligence system is, it's difficult to connect these three people to Long Yuan."
Lin Zhengguo listened in silence, then suddenly picked up the internal phone: "Connect me to the Intelligence Analysis Department." While waiting for the call to connect, he said to Han Feng, "You know that this is ostensibly a state-owned enterprise participation in the New Energy Summit for cooperation negotiations and a visit to China, right?"
Han Feng nodded: "I'll leave the personnel arrangements to you, sir. My job is just to stir things up a bit in R country."
"You little rascal, don't make too much noise, or I won't be able to clean up the mess for you." Just as he finished speaking, the phone was answered.
Lin Zhengguo straightened his voice and said into the phone, "Director Li, I need all the monitoring and evaluation reports from Country R on our business delegations over the past three years."
After a brief exchange, Lin Zhengguo's brows furrowed. When he heard a muffled response from the receiver, his brows tightened considerably. After hanging up, he said to Han Feng with a very serious expression, "It's exactly as you said. Starting last year, R country did install a new biometric system at the airport, capable of identifying special agents through gait analysis."
Han Feng wasn't surprised: "That's why we need real 'ordinary people'."
Lin Zhengguo suddenly laughed, the kind of laugh a hunter gives when he discovers the perfect trap: "You even thought of that." He stood up, patted Han Feng on the shoulder, and said, "Then the choice is settled. You're in charge of informing them; this is the highest-level mission, and it must be kept absolutely secret internally."
"Understood." Han Feng put away the documents, turned around and walked towards the door.
"Han Feng." Lin Zhengguo suddenly called out to him, "Does Su Wanwan know how highly you speak of her?"
Han Feng's hand remained on the doorknob; he didn't turn around: "She doesn't need to know."
Stepping out of the main building of the base, the early autumn wind already carried a hint of coolness. Han Feng took out his phone and found Liu Xiaoran's name in his contacts. Before dialing, he paused for a moment, his gaze falling on Iron Tower and Night Owl, who were engaged in combat training in the distance. The burly man was easily taking down three sparring partners, while Night Owl was also moving with ease through the crowd, leaving a red decapitation mark on the neck of each person he passed.
This mission without the original team members was indeed risky, but some operations require stealth, not firepower. Liu Xiaoran, coming from an ancient martial arts family, naturally possesses different methods; Su Wanwan's computer skills, combined with his own adaptability, might just create a miracle.
The call connected, and Liu Xiaoran's signature cold voice came through: "What's wrong?"
"Where are you?" Han Feng asked directly. "I need to talk to you."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone: "At home, what's up?"
"It's not convenient to talk about it over the phone," Han Feng said in a low voice as he opened the car door. "Come to my house at seven o'clock tonight."
"Okay." After Liu Xiaoran finished speaking, he hung up the phone. Han Feng listened to the dial tone and was speechless: "What kind of person is this?"
As the car drove away from the base, Han Feng glanced in the rearview mirror. Lin Zhengguo stood by the office window, watching him leave. The two exchanged a knowing look, a silent understanding between them.
