Chapter 45 The Unexpected Guest

The two played games until noon, and in the end Su Wanwan won, so Han Feng had no choice but to go and cook.

After dinner, Su Wanwan pestered Han Feng to watch a movie. Han Feng, annoyed by her persistence, had no choice but to agree.

"Action movie."

\"don't want!\"

"Science fiction film."

"That's so cliché!"

"Documentary."

"Han Feng!" Su Wanwan threw a cushion at his face. "Are you twenty or eighty? What are you watching a documentary on your day off?!" She jumped up from the sofa, snatched the remote, and shouted, "Watch this! The new remake of 'The Ring'!"

Han Feng frowned: "Horror movies make no sense."

"That's exactly what I wanted—no logic!" Su Wanwan had already pressed play. "Let a control freak like you experience what it's like to be completely unpredictable!"

The eerie opening music had just started when the doorbell suddenly rang. Su Wanwan jumped up like a startled cat, sending the remote control flying a long way.

"Go open the door!" She huddled in the corner of the sofa and kicked Han Feng with her foot.

Han Feng stood up helplessly: "Weren't you afraid?"

"Who, who's scared!" Su Wanwan grabbed another cushion and hugged it to her chest. "I'm just... too lazy to move!"

Han Feng stood up helplessly, casually throwing the cushion that Su Wanwan had kicked back at her face with pinpoint accuracy. Reaching the entryway, he glanced at the security camera and, unusually, froze – standing outside was Liu Mengran.

She wasn't wearing her usual austere suit today, but a simple light blue dress, her hair loosely pulled back behind her ears, and she was holding a few books. Through the monitor, you could see her slightly furrowed brow as she looked at the doorbell camera, as if wondering why no one had answered for so long.

Han Feng subconsciously straightened his t-shirt collar before opening the door: "Liu Mengran, what brings you here?"

"Aren't you going to invite me in?" Liu Mengran's voice remained cold, but a barely perceptible smile played at the corners of her lips. "I rang the doorbell three times."

Han Feng then stepped aside. Liu Mengran entered the foyer, her gaze sweeping over the spacious living room and Su Wanwan, who was sprawled on the sofa, her mouth agape, staring in their direction, having forgotten to chew her potato chips.

"I'm here because of our group project," Liu Mengran stated directly, holding up the book in her hand. "The professor has suddenly requested a model demonstration next week, so I came to see if you have time to prepare in advance."

Han Feng then remembered their "Advanced Financial Modeling" assignment. He had almost completely forgotten about it since the Dragon Abyss selection began.

\"I...\"

"Wow~" Su Wanwan had somehow jumped up beside them, her eyes shining brightly. "Liu Mengran, you're here?" She poked Han Feng's waist hard with her elbow, mouthing exaggeratedly, "You—took—her—away?"

Han Feng gave her a sharp look, and Su Wanwan immediately pretended to cough and turned to Liu Mengran: "Hello, hello! I'm Su Wanwan! We've met before." She extended her hand warmly.

Liu Mengran politely shook her hand: "Su Wanwan, I remember you, the punk goddess of the Computer Science department." She glanced at Han Feng, "Looks like I've bothered you?"

"No, no!" Su Wanwan pulled Liu Mengran towards the living room. "We're so bored! The movie Han Feng chose is so dull!"

Han Feng stood there, rubbing his temples. He should have expected that arranging for Su Wanwan and Liu Mengran to meet would result in this situation.

The three had just sat down in the living room, with Liu Mengran elegantly seated on a single sofa and Su Wanwan deliberately squeezing next to Han Feng, when the doorbell rang again.

"This time it's definitely Liu the blockhead!" Su Wanwan jumped up. "I'll drive it!"

She jogged to open the door and, sure enough, saw Liu Xiaoran standing tall outside, holding a notebook in his hand.

"Perfect timing!" Su Wanwan exclaimed as if she'd been saved. "Come in quickly and help us break this awkward atmosphere—"

Liu Xiaoran had just stepped into the entryway when he called out loudly, "Captain! I'm here." He froze immediately after speaking. His gaze passed over Su Wanwan and locked onto Liu Mengran in the living room. At the same time, Liu Mengran stood up, the book in her hand falling to the floor with a "thud."

\"elder brother?\"

"Xiao Meng?"

They both spoke at the same time, then fell silent at the same time. The air in the living room seemed to freeze instantly.

Su Wanwan looked left and right, then suddenly realized something: "Wait...you know each other?"

Liu Xiaoran's expression was as if he had been struck on the head: "What are you doing here?"

"I've come to see Han Feng about something." Liu Mengran quickly regained her composure, but her fingers gripped the hem of her skirt tightly. "You...know each other?" Her gaze shifted back and forth between Liu Xiaoran and Han Feng.

Han Feng sighed, just about to explain, when Su Wanwan suddenly clapped her hands:

"Don't stand there! Sit down and talk!" She pushed Liu Xiaoran towards the living room. "I'll go get some drinks. What would you like? Tea? Coffee? Or..." She lowered her voice and asked in Liu Xiaoran's ear, "Need some alcohol to give you courage?"

Liu Xiaoran was mechanically pressed onto the sofa by her, facing Liu Mengran. The two siblings stared at each other across a coffee table, their expressions as complex as an overturned palette.

Han Feng stood aside, suddenly wishing that a genetic warrior could break through the window at this moment, at least that would be much easier to deal with than the current situation.

Su Wanwan returned carrying a tray with four glasses of iced cola, each with a comical little umbrella stuck to its rim. "Come on, how can a family gathering be complete without drinks!" She was completely oblivious to how her words made the atmosphere even more awkward.

Liu Mengran took a deep breath and broke the silence first: "Why are you here? Also, who did you just call captain?"

Liu Xiaoran looked at Han Feng, and seeing that Han Feng did not respond, he had no choice but to tell the truth: "Didn't I say last time that I was transferred back to the capital because of one person? Well, it's him."

"Han Feng?" Liu Mengran turned to Han Feng, a look of confusion in her eyes.

Liu Xiaoran continued to explain, "He is my superior, and he is my current team leader."

"Oh." Liu Mengran looked enlightened, but she was smart enough not to ask any further questions, knowing it was a secret.

Su Wanwan, standing to the side, widened her eyes: "Wait, you two know each other? Are you siblings?" She abruptly turned to Han Feng, "Do you know about this?"

Han Feng picked up a glass of cola, calmly took a sip, and without telling her what he knew, simply said, "I just found out myself."

The group sat on the sofa, staring at each other. Liu Mengran said, "I've finished talking about my business, so I'll be going now. Don't forget, Han Feng."

Liu Xiaoran was naturally embarrassed: "Um, Captain, how about I go back first today?" He could tell that Han Feng and Liu Mengran seemed to be more than just ordinary classmates. Although he wanted to learn about gene warriors as soon as possible, he was more interested in knowing what the relationship was between his sister and Han Feng.
