Chapter 238 The Second Decisive Battle

Yun Zhe spoke casually and calmly, but the atmosphere of impending doom was even more palpable. Silently, everyone gathered their waist tokens, headscarves, or some money and handed them to Akdina. Before long, a large pile of various items lay before Akdina.

Yun Zhe thought for a moment, then drew his short sword and placed it on top of the pile of items. "Take this to Ellie. Be careful, don't let her see it."

Akdina stared at the short sword, speechless.

Yun Zhe sighed and walked over to the others. Looking at them, he didn't know what to say for a moment. To Yun Zhe's surprise, their attitude wasn't one of utter despair. Rather than being indifferent to their current situation, they seemed more prepared for it.

The only thing that made Yun Zhe happy was that, compared to the lifeless soldiers around him, Yun Zhe's soldiers had much better morale.

Charles approached Yun Zhe and whispered to him if he wanted to go to General Tedler's side and give a speech to the soldiers together.

After listening, Yun Zhe waved his hand to refuse. But then, as if he had thought of something, he grabbed Charles, who had already turned to leave, and asked, "Can I say something too?"

Charles was taken aback, then nodded. He was extremely depressed at this moment, having already imagined four or five scenarios in which he would die a miserable death on the battlefield. He didn't think much about Yun Zhe's question, but just assumed that Yun Zhe probably wanted to experience being a general one last time before he died. With the intention of helping others achieve their goals, he nodded without hesitation. As for General Tedler, he didn't even consider it.

Yun Zhe naturally knew what Charles was thinking and knew that this matter was unlikely to succeed at all, but since Charles had already nodded, Yun Zhe decided to try his best as a last resort.

The army assembled, and the force of over six thousand men formed a formation of more than twenty ranks. At the very front of the formation were Tedler's personal guards. Charles, with his eyes slightly closed, stood at one end of the column, his heart heavy and devoid of any desire to speak.

Tedler and Yunzhe walked to the front of the column. Looking at the lifeless army, Tedler felt embarrassed to blame them. After all, they were about to follow him to their deaths, and to die meaninglessly and without hope.

But Tedler cleared his throat and began to speak.

"As you all know, the enemy has sent twice as many cavalry and infantry as us to surround us. Before we set off, I told you all to be prepared to be surrounded and intercepted by an enemy several times your size, but I also know that you, like me, did not really take this seriously."

Tedler's voice was loud and clear, but it seemed somewhat out of place with what he was saying. Yun Zhe, listening nearby, suddenly remembered a meme he often saw before his transmigration: "Saying the most cowardly thing while looking the fiercest." With that thought, Yun Zhe couldn't help but turn his head and grin.

"When I learned of their approach, I did consider leading you all to escape. That's true; I didn't think our chances of winning were high. But as you all know, we're not on the run now, but standing here in formation, waiting for their attack." Tedler paused. "Why did I change my mind? It wasn't because I wanted to be a hero, nor because of some so-called sense of general's honor, but a simple truth: on this plain, being chased by cavalry means certain death. Only by staying and fighting to the death can we have a chance of survival!"

"So take up your swords, grip your spears, charge, fight! Only in this way can you fight for a chance to live, only in this way can you have hope of survival!"

It must be said that Tedler's speech was very effective. The gloom on the battlefield was swept away by his few words, and the soldiers' morale became much higher and more determined.

Tedler was quite satisfied with the effect of his speech. Although his face remained expressionless, he was inwardly relieved. He looked at Yun Zhe, who seemed to want to say something as well. Tedler hesitated for a moment, thinking that Yun Zhe probably wouldn't make things worse, so he gestured for Yun Zhe to say a few words.

Upon hearing Yun Zhe speak, a stir arose in the ranks. There were some legends about Yun Zhe in the military camp. Now, seeing him in person, the soldiers were filled with anticipation.

Yun Zhe looked around and then asked a question.

"With the great battle imminent, have you thought of anyone, such as a family member, a lover, or even a familiar restaurant on a street corner, or a beautiful sunrise on a certain day?"

The soldiers exchanged glances; this beginning was indeed somewhat unexpected. But when it came to the people they were thinking of, there were definitely some.

Yun Zhe nodded. "I also have someone I miss. A beautiful archer, she's a female knight, kind and gentle, and rarely gets angry. I also adopted a girl, she's smart, but not very talkative."

In an instant, countless names flooded into Yun Zhe's mind. The soldiers in front of him began to recall their memories: parents, wives and children, even lovers and friends appeared one by one in their minds.

Charles opened his eyes and looked at Yun Zhe with a puzzled expression. The morale that Tedler had just managed to build up seemed to be dissipating at a visible speed. He couldn't understand what Yun Zhe was doing.

Tedler, standing behind Yun Zhe, was already regretting his actions, but his noble composure prevented him from interrupting Yun Zhe. He simply frowned, trying to wait for Yun Zhe to finish speaking before trying to salvage the situation.

Yun Zhe coughed lightly, signaling everyone to focus their attention on him.

“I was just thinking about something,” Yun Zhe pointed behind him, “That’s the capital city. I think everyone has heard about what happened there. If the soldiers of the capital were standing here right now, would they be different from you? Would they give up this opportunity, which might be their only chance for revenge in this lifetime?”
