Chapter 156 Sisters Recognize Each Other

Sitting in the flower hall in front of the main house in the backyard of the Eighth Prince's mansion, Heyue lowered her head and held a cup of tea, somewhat dazed.

Neither of them spoke, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.

The Eighth Princess Consort coughed lightly, took the teacup, sipped it, looked at the ground, pondered for a moment, finally came back to her senses, put down the teacup, composed herself, looked up at Heyue, and showed a gentle smile: "How have you been these days?"

Since that incident, Heyue has never contacted her again, and the two acted as if they had never met.

Upon seeing each other again this time, Heyue was somewhat at a loss for how to face them.

Heyue had considered respecting the wishes of the Eighth Prince's wife, but since the other party was unwilling to admit it, Heyue did not force her and allowed her to have the life she wanted.

But upon seeing each other again, I couldn't help but feel emotional.

Hearing her words of concern, Heyue paused for a moment, then nodded gently: "I'm fine."

After saying that, I didn't know what else to say.

They were once the closest people in the world, but when they met again across two different worlds, they were like strangers.

"I heard that the Emperor has bestowed a marriage upon your sixth sister. Congratulations!" The Eighth Princess Consort congratulated her with a smile.

He smiled and nodded, accepting her blessing on behalf of his sixth sister.

As dusk settled, the palace lanterns under the eaves lit up, illuminating the surrounding scenery.

The atmosphere became awkward again.

Heyue glanced at the sky, then got up to take her leave.

The Eighth Prince's wife spoke up to persuade him to stay: "Please stay for a meal. I have something to tell you."

He Yue suddenly looked up, surprised, and met her gentle, smiling gaze. It seemed as if something had broken free of its shackles, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears.

She nodded, sat down again, and the Eighth Prince's wife ordered the servants to serve the meal.

After a quiet meal, the food was cleared away, and the Fourth Princess dismissed the maids, then looked at Heyue.

A strange feeling welled up in He Yue's heart. She sat up straight and waited for her to speak.

"Heyue, I'm sorry." After a long silence, the Eighth Prince's wife's low voice finally fell.

He Yue blinked her sore eyes, not understanding what she meant by those words. What did she have to apologize for?

The next moment, she continued, "Since I came here, I never thought I would see you again."

His hands suddenly clenched tightly, and his bright, clear eyes locked onto her. Seeing her smiling face and the mist rising in her eyes, something was about to burst forth, and his heart leaped into his throat.

It was a mixture of anticipation and fear.

She didn't say anything, she just watched her quietly.

The Eighth Prince's wife looked at her, a gentle smile playing on her lips: "Are you still willing to acknowledge me?"

Upon hearing this, Heyue could no longer hold back, and tears instantly welled up in her eyes.

Seemingly unable to believe she could still hear those words, she didn't know how to respond for a moment, and just cried in grievance, shedding sad tears.

The Eighth Prince's wife got up and walked over to her, took her hand and stood up, embracing her: "Why are you crying? Are you still angry with your sister?"

Hearing the slightly teasing question, Heyue blinked, tears falling from her eyelashes, and finally reached out to hug her.

"Why don't you acknowledge me?" She didn't answer whether she was angry, but her choked voice and the content of her words clearly showed that she was unable to forgive and felt wronged.

Honestly, she rarely cried when she was little, but she started crying all the time after her sister left. When we met again and she denied it without hesitation, the grievances in my heart almost overwhelmed her.

It's really embarrassing.

But I can't help it.

She hugged her tightly like a child, as if afraid she would run away.

The Eighth Princess Consort chuckled and gently patted her back, as if comforting her own child, her voice so tender it could melt water: "Then do you still resent your sister?"

Did I resent her? Perhaps I did before, when she clearly recognized me but refused to acknowledge me, and denied it without hesitation after I said those things. At that time, I felt wronged and resentful, so I stubbornly stopped looking for her.

But at this moment, when she heard her own words of admission, and when she held her and asked her directly if she resented it, how could Heyue still have any resentment? There was only boundless joy of regaining what she had lost.

He buried his face in her arms, shook his head, and expressed his meaning.

The Eighth Prince's wife gently pushed her away, looked down at her, and smiled as she reached out to gently pinch her nose: "You're so old and you still cry so easily."

"Am I not a child now? What's wrong with crying?" Heyue muttered unhappily, her face flushed with embarrassment, as she raised her sleeve to wipe her tears.

The Eighth Prince's wife reached out and pulled her hand down, shook her head helplessly, picked up a handkerchief and wiped her tears, then ordered someone to bring hot water, and a maid helped Heyue wash her face.

Sitting down again, Heyue had regained her composure. If it weren't for her slightly red eyes, you wouldn't have been able to tell that she had just been crying.

The Eighth Prince's wife took her hand and led her into the west side room of the main house, where they sat on the couch. The palace lanterns cast a soft glow, illuminating their figures as they talked.

"Why did you come here?" The Eighth Prince's wife asked the question that had been on her mind for a long time.

He Yue was silent for a moment, then slowly said, "I went to see my sister, and suddenly a strange wind blew up. I heard someone whisper in my ear that my sister was still alive and that I could find her. When I woke up, I would be here."

The Eighth Prince's wife frowned: "Who is it?"

He Yue shook her head, her eyes flickered slightly, and she lowered her head, her voice slightly hoarse: "I don't know."

She genuinely didn't know, but some things were hidden, and she subconsciously didn't want to say them.

The Eighth Prince's wife didn't notice or suspect anything. She laughed and hugged her, saying, "It must be fate that we sisters are able to meet again."

He nodded gently, a slight smile playing on his lips.

Indeed, at that time she never thought she would see her sister again, and even with the help of the mysterious person, she only had a one in ten thousand chance of getting here.
