Everyone says the Thirteenth Prince is dashing, handsome, skilled in both literature and martial arts, and the dream lover of countless young ladies. But when it comes to Zhaojia Heyue, she dismiss...
The Fourth Prince's wife was not usually such a sentimental person, nor was she someone who would confide such private matters to others. Yet now she had told her, and her purpose was self-evident.
To be honest, seeing that the Fourth Prince's wife was becoming increasingly depressed, He Yue couldn't help but resent the Fourth Prince. His wife had just lost her child, yet he only cared about going to his concubine's place. After all, she was his legitimate son, and he could act so indifferently. It was really too cold-hearted.
I wanted to scold him to wake him up, but it was someone else's business, so what sense would it make for me to say something?
She doesn't have the habit of meddling in other people's business.
Now, after hearing what the Fourth Prince's wife said, although he felt sorry for her fate, he was even more unwilling to be manipulated by others.
Whoever's business it is, that's their business. Why is she meddling?
Two months later was the wedding of Yuxiu and the Twelfth Prince. Emperor Kangxi was not in the capital, and several princes had gone to the border regions. Fortunately, there were still a few older princes, so the wedding was still quite lively.
He Yue personally went to the scholar's residence to see Yu Xiu off on her wedding day, and felt a sense of relief that everyone had found their own place in the world.
A few days later, when she saw Yuxiu again, it was Yuxiu who invited her to her residence for a chat.
Upon meeting her, seeing her with her hair styled in two buns, adding to her mature and charming shyness, and her face full of happy smiles, He Yue couldn't help but ask, "How are things going with your twelfth uncle? Does he like you?"
Yuxiu blushed and glared at her, saying, "How can you still be so shameless!"
He Yue smiled, her lips pursed. From her expression, she already knew the answer was excellent.
Sure enough, Yuxiu looked around and, seeing that no one was there, leaned closer to her and whispered, "Anyway, he's very gentle."
Heyue covered her mouth and chuckled.
Yuxiu blushed deeply as she was laughed at.
Knowing that she was shy, Heyue stopped laughing at her: "The Twelfth Prince is known for his gentleness and good temper. You are so lucky to have married such a husband. I envy you."
Yu Xiu smiled enigmatically: "How are the others supposed to feel about this? Everyone knows how much Uncle Thirteen dotes on you."
He Yue wasn't shy at all; instead, she feigned ignorance: "Really? How come I didn't know?"
Yu Xiu frowned and pretended to hit her: "You little devil, still being stubborn, huh?"
He Yue laughed and dodged the question: "How could I dare? I really didn't know."
"Forget it, you're always so shameless, there's nothing I can do about you." Yu Xiu sighed helplessly, but also found it amusing.
Not long after, Kangxi returned to the capital, and Heyue finally met the Thirteenth Prince. He was a bit darker and stronger. The two of them spent a good time together and talked about Honghui.
"Fourth Brother had a hard life. He had a weak bond with his mother since childhood, and there weren't many children in the family. He was the only legitimate son, and he's gone just like that. Honghui was always smart and well-behaved. When he was little, I often held him and made him happy. It feels like all of this happened just yesterday." Thirteen held her, unable to hide his grief.
Heyue nestled in his arms, playing with his fingers, and said casually, "This is probably everyone's fate. You can't fight against fate."
He paused, feeling a mix of emotions. Was fate truly beyond his control?
She has never believed in fate, but in the power of human will to overcome destiny. Such a simple acceptance of fate is not her style.
Thirteen held her tightly, his lips close to her ear, and murmured, "Heyue, do you want a child?"
He Yue paused for a moment, then asked with a smile, "Why are you suddenly asking that?"
I do want to, but I can't yet, which makes me feel a little uneasy.
"It's nothing, I just felt like saying that I want a smart and cute child like Honghui, that would be very lively." The Thirteenth Prince stared at her profile with a complicated expression, not missing her momentary stiffness.
"Let things take their course. What's meant to happen will happen. Why are you in such a hurry?" Heyue chuckled and pinched his arm.
"Really?" Thirteen asked, his voice barely audible, his arms around her tightening even more.
Seemingly sensing his absent-mindedness, He Yue looked back at him curiously and saw that he had his eyes closed and was not moving. She secretly found it amusing.
She cupped his face and gently kissed him on the lips: "When did you become so sleepy? You fell asleep while we were talking."
She stretched out her index finger and tapped his nose, then touched his long eyelashes, finding it amusing.
Suddenly, those closed eyes opened, startling He Yue. She patted her chest, composed herself, and glared at him, saying, "How could you be so scary!"
Those eyes stared at her intently, unblinking, as if trying to etch her into their hearts, or as if trying to see through her completely.
Heyue felt uncomfortable under his gaze and pinched his cheek: "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Thirteen snapped out of his daze, suddenly grabbed her hand, gazed intently at her, opened his mouth but said nothing, relaxed completely, and hugged her back into his arms.
"Heyue, have you gone to see Fourth Brother? How is he?" he suddenly asked in a hoarse voice above her head.
He Yue thought for a moment and said, "That's great. Although she was a little sad, she's resilient and recovered quickly."
"Really?" He paused for a moment, then asked, "Did you try to comfort Fourth Brother?"
He Yue was amused by his question: "That's a strange question. Shouldn't you be asking me if I comforted Fourth Sister-in-law? Why would someone like Fourth Brother need my comfort?"
Thirteen breathed a barely perceptible sigh of relief.
He Yue recalled that time when she originally intended to comfort the Fourth Prince, but he said those inexplicable things and did those things, making her feel very embarrassed. After that, how could she dare to comfort him again? She was too busy avoiding him.
"What kind of person is Fourth Brother?" Thirteen's curiosity was piqued by her question.
He Yue didn't mind and casually said, "Well, how should I put it? Actually, Fourth Brother is a pretty good person. He was very kind to me when I was little. He's just a bit cold on the outside and not easy to get close to. If I had to describe him, he would be cold on the outside but warm on the inside. He's also a bit long-winded, but it's all out of concern for people."
