The True Young Master Reborn: No More Bootlicking, The Whole Family Is Devastated

As the long-lost son of the Lu family in Jiangzhou, Lu Yi originally thought this was heaven's favor upon him, but the truth was far from it.

Seventeen years of destitution did not earn h...

Chapter 23 The Widows Who Depend on Each Other

For several days in a row, Lin Xiaoya was depressed.

The opening and trial operation of the new "Honey Words and Ice Sweetness" store were all handled by the newly recruited store manager.

Lu Yi was relieved to find out that Lin Xiaoya wasn't going out.

Knowing that he would be busy in the future and wouldn't have much free time, he immediately went home to pack a few clothes after seeing Liang Shiyue upstairs, and then took a car to the cemetery.

Lu Gensheng coughed even more violently.

He coughed up blood more and more often, and the medications seemed unable to control his condition.

Hearing the knock, he struggled to get up and open the door. "Little Liu, next time..."

Upon seeing that the visitor was his nephew Lu Yi, he straightened his back and beamed with joy.

"Why are you here so late at night, child?"

Most people avoid such places, and even those who come to pay respects to their closest relatives will choose to leave the park as soon as possible before sunset.

But Lu Yi never cared about any of that.

In previous years, when he stayed here for a while, he would often impulsively run up the mountain in the middle of the night.

Lu Gensheng would get up early to patrol the mountain and saw him several times curled up next to his adoptive parents' tombstones, sleeping soundly.

Lu Yi smiled childishly and handed over a bag of pears.

“I missed you, Uncle. There was just one last bus, so I rushed over… Eat more of these pears; they’re good for your lungs.”

Lu Gengsheng suppressed a cough and pointed to his arm, "You've seen a doctor? She didn't give you any trouble, did she?"

As they talked, the two went inside. Lu Gengsheng bent down and took out a pot from under the table, preparing to cook something.

Lu Yi hurriedly said, "I've already eaten, Uncle, you should lie down and continue sleeping! The doctor was very kind, and she also said that she could remove my cast in a few days."

Lu Gensheng sat on the edge of the bed and nodded with satisfaction.

She glanced at him a few times, but had a lot to say and didn't know where to begin.

He really wanted to tell Lu Yi to maintain a good relationship with his biological parents, so that he wouldn't end up all alone and helpless in this world.

But upon seeing his arm, she had to swallow her words.

This child isn't unreasonable. If that family had accepted him properly, how come he had no one to take care of him when he was hospitalized?

Since he's come out to support himself, it means the kid really couldn't stay there any longer.

Lu Gensheng sighed and, without making a sound, kicked a few wads of blood-stained toilet paper under the bed.

"You should go to sleep too. I'm going to patrol the mountain early tomorrow morning. If you can get up, you can come with me."

The father and son remained silent all night.

Lu Yi on the small bed was snoring softly, as if he had fallen asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.

Lu Gengsheng coughed occasionally, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. He got up, draped a piece of clothing over his shoulder, and quietly opened the door and went outside.

The bright moonlight roams freely over the human world.

Lu Gensheng pounded his chest and said helplessly, "Old Lu, with this kid in this situation today, can you still lie there in that cement hole and pretend you didn't see it?"

He didn't know how much time had passed, but Lu Gensheng felt weak and drowsy.

I went back to my room, lay down, and quickly fell asleep.

He had a dream in which his cousin and his wife held his hands, begging him to take good care of Lu Yi and never abandon him...

When Lu Gengsheng woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.

Surprisingly, the tightness in his chest disappeared, and he felt much better.

It felt as if a stone blocking my heart had been removed.

Lu Yi returned from outside, covered in sweat. Seeing that Lu Gen's complexion had improved, he poured all the washed and chopped ingredients into the pot.

"Uncle, I heard that pig lungs are good for your health, so I got up early and went to the nearby market to pick out the freshest one. It wasn't expensive; the owner gave me five yuan."

"I've already blanched them. Once they're cooked and seasoned, you can eat them with gusto!"

He stirred the pot quickly, added ingredients such as scallions, ginger, and star anise, covered it with the lid, and then turned around to drape a coat over Lu Gengsheng's shoulders.

Lu Yi smiled brightly, "I patrolled for you this morning and talked to my parents for a while. They came to my dream last night and told me to take good care of Uncle!"

Lu Gensheng couldn't quite describe how he felt.

I felt like dust had gotten into my eyes; they felt sore and numb, and I just wanted to cry.

Everyone says blood is thicker than water, but this child, who has no blood relation to them, has a deeper affection for the Lu family than blood!

The flames in the stove were strong, and soon the pot was filled with the aroma of meat.

Lu Gengsheng sniffed and said, trying to cover it up, "You silly child, your arm isn't even healed yet, and you went all that way just to buy this little thing to eat. Don't go like that again!"

In summer, the days are long and the nights are short. A teenager can't get enough sleep, yet he's still preparing food for himself. He just can't bring himself to do that.

"Uncle forgot, I always get up early to buy groceries, then cook and eat before going to school."

"I've already prepared the dough. I'll steam some buns for you at noon. I'll steam a lot and put them in the refrigerator so you can heat them up and eat them."

Lu Yi disagreed.

Although he had never formally studied cooking, he had lived with his adoptive parents day and night and had memorized how they cooked, so he could cook quite well.

Lu Gensheng didn't refuse again. He was just about to ask if Xiao Liu from the management office had arrived when someone knocked loudly on the door.

"Sir, I wanted to ask you if there's a car repair shop around here? My car..."

The father and son got up and went to the door. When they opened the door, they were shocked.

"Dr. Fan?"

Fan Huijun blinked her long eyelashes, unsure of what to say for a moment. After a long pause, she said bitterly, "You live here?"

No wonder Lu Gengsheng was in such a hurry to take Lu Yi away as soon as he picked him up.
