He was once a top-tier assassin, an existence that even international police feared. Now, he's the small owner of a dry-cleaning shop.
To take care of his younger brother and sister, whom...
"Xiao Yan, what happened?" Li Jia stepped forward and looked at the bruise on Li Yan's forehead. She immediately recognized that it was a mark left by someone hitting him on the forehead.
"It's okay! Hurry up and go eat, I'm hungry!" Li Yan dodged Li Jia's hand, his eyes filled with a deep-seated resentment.
“Xiao Yan went to a neighborhood full of wealthy people. I don’t know who beat him up. No matter how we ask him when he comes back, he won’t say anything. Brother Li, what do you think…” Li Xiaoqing walked up to Li Jia, her face full of worry.
"Don't worry, with Brother Li here, everything will be fine!" Li Jia gave Li Xiaoqing a reassuring look. "Alright! Let's go eat first. You don't need to go out to distribute the food after you rest this afternoon, but you'll still get paid! Let's go! Let's go have a big meal!" After saying that, Li Jia kept Li Yan's matter in mind, and with a smile on her face, she drove the car with several people towards the restaurant area on Sishui Road.
"How was it? Any thoughts on your work this morning?" Li Jia asked, trying to start a conversation as she drove.
"I have so many thoughts! I feel like I'm getting a bit of a loss by helping out voluntarily. It turns out that distributing this stuff is more tiring than handling cases. I strongly request that Li Jia, you big spender, take care of my lunch and dinner for a week. Xiao Qing, what do you guys think?" Jiang Ling was indeed exhausted today. She would never normally walk for such a long time. Walking for nearly three hours in the morning really put this seemingly tough policewoman to a very tough test.
"Hehe, Sister Jiang is right." Li Xiaoqing smiled shyly after saying that.
"Tch!" Li Xiaotong just pursed her lips slightly, clearly uttered a single word, then tilted her head, put on her headphones, and continued listening to music.
"You have to give something in order to get something in return; that's a truth that will never change," Li Yan said, looking out the car window without turning his head.
Li Jia was surprised that several people reacted to his words. He had thought that Li Xiaotong would not react, but she actually did react, even if it was just a short "cut". It was much better than Li Jia had expected.
"Hehe, Xiaoyan is right. If you want something in return, you have to give something in return. It's the same for everyone. It's impossible to get something for nothing. Only in the world can you find examples of giving without expecting anything in return when it's family!" Li Jia intentionally or unintentionally steered the conversation toward family. Unfortunately, after Li Jia finished speaking, everyone, including Jiang Ling, fell into quiet contemplation. After driving for more than ten minutes, Li Feng also saw the sign of Chuanfu Restaurant.
"We're here! We'll have Sichuan cuisine today, let's treat you all well." Li Jia had already parked the car as she spoke, and after everyone got out, they entered the Sichuan Restaurant led by Li Jia and Jiang Ling.
"Please come upstairs to the second floor, all five of you! There's also a small private room." Led by a professionally smiling guide, the group went up to the private room on the second floor. After they were seated, Li Jia took the menu and handed it to Jiang Ling'er. "Order whatever you like!"
Jiang Ling took the menu and smiled. "Xiao Qing, you like boiled fish, right? I'll order you some. Xiao Tong, what would you like? How about steamed egg with hibiscus? Xiao Yan, how about some Mapo Tofu? And for myself, I'll have some wontons." Jiang Ling finished speaking and handed the menu back to Li Jia. Li Jia looked at the three people's expressions and immediately understood. She didn't let them order, but instead ordered some stir-fried shredded beef and returned the menu to the waiter.
"Okay, please wait a moment." After pouring water into the glasses of the group, the waiter left the private room, leaving only Li Jia, Jiang Ling, and Li Xiaoqing, the three siblings.
"Xiao Tong, did anything fun happen to you while handing out flyers today? Tell us about it!" Jiang Ling, having received a hint from Li Jia, took the initiative to start the conversation.
"No, it was all my second brother and the others who helped me distribute them. What fun things could there be?" Li Xiaotong didn't hide anything and openly told them that others had helped her distribute the flyers.
"Xiao Yan? You went to post it all by yourself. Did anything happen? Tell us about it." Jiang Ling turned to Li Yan with a helpless expression after hearing Li Xiaotong's words and asked him again.
"Nothing funny happened. I was busy handing out flyers. Several people did ask me for the address of the dry cleaner, and I told them. Oh, later when I went to Wangfu Garden, I ran into two hilarious guys at the entrance. One was tall and thin, and the other was short and fat. I don't know why, but they beat up the security guard at the entrance." Li Yan was quite talkative. He looked a little uncomfortable when he talked about the two guys beating up the security guard, but he quickly recovered and took a sip of water after finishing speaking.
"Hehe, alright, you've had a hard morning, let's get started!" After the Li family got the information they wanted, there was a knock at the door and the sound of food being served. Soon, all the dishes they ordered were placed on the table. The group was immediately attracted by the food on the table and began to eat in silence. It was clear that they were really tired from the morning.
Seeing Li Xiaoqing and her two siblings enjoying their meal, Li Jia felt incredibly happy. She kept putting food on Li Xiaotong's, Li Yan's, Li Xiaoqing's, and Jiang Ling's plates with her chopsticks, while she herself didn't eat much. Including that night, this was the second time Li Jia had a proper meal with her younger siblings. Throughout the meal, Li Jia didn't say a word, just kept putting food on their plates, and the corners of her mouth were always turned up.
After the meal, Li Jia paid the bill and drove the four of them back to Tianxiang Garden. She also gave each of the three siblings two hundred yuan as a reward. Except for Li Xiaoqing, who felt it was too much, Li Yan and Li Xiaotong accepted it without saying anything.
