Chapter 30 Good Citizen

Outside the window, Li Jia's gaze was fixed on the Starbucks parking lot. In front of her Passat, a guy in a denim jacket was squatting in front of her license plate, fiddling with something. Another guy was looking around. The license plates of several cars next to hers had disappeared. Besides the guy squatting there fiddling with something, the other guy was carrying a black plastic bag, which looked like it contained stolen license plates.

Li Jia took out her phone and dialed Jiang Ling's number. "Officer Jiang, hello, I need to report a case! Someone is stealing my license plate. The address is the parking lot of Starbucks in the south of the city. Yes, there are several of them, all tall and strong. I dare not stop them. You'd better come quickly! Yes, it's the Starbucks near the tourist area!" After saying this, Li Jia hung up the phone with a smile on her face, looking at Chen Yi on the other end of the line, who seemed a little excited. "What? Haven't you ever seen someone steal a license plate before?"

"Yes! I always hear that this uncle's license plate is missing, that uncle's license plate is lost, but this is the first time I've seen it. By the way, why did you lie?" Chen Yi looked at the two people outside who were still fiddling with their heads down and was a little puzzled by Li Jia's actions. In her opinion, Li Jia should have rushed out immediately and beaten those two guys down.

“I’m not lying, look at the parking lot management booth. There’s no security guard inside anymore, but there are three big men in there now! Look over there!” Li Jia said, pointing to the parking lot management booth and urging Chen Yi to observe carefully.

"I saw it! It's real! How did you find out?" Chen Yi looked at Li Jia with even more excitement. She recalled the marks on her motorcycle and started to have wild, unfounded imaginations about Li Jia's identity. She didn't even realize that her face was getting closer and closer to Li Jia's.

Li Jia was also observing the commotion in the parking lot. He wasn't worried about his license plate at all. Since the car had been modified, the license plate had naturally been altered as well. Unless you had a key or a welding torch, there was no way to remove it in a short time.

The table where the two were originally sitting was a two-seater near the window. Suddenly, this happened, and both Li Jia and Chen Yi tilted their heads to look outside. Unconsciously, following the direction Li Jia was pointing, Chen Yi's face was almost touching Li Jia's hand. At this moment, Li Jia could clearly smell the faint lemon scent on Chen Yi. However, because she was paying attention to what was happening outside, Chen Yi did not realize that her actions with Li Jia had become very intimate.

Li Jia subtly withdrew her hand, then sat down and answered Jiang Ling's call. "Yeah, they're still here. They seem pretty brazen, daring to commit crimes so brazenly in broad daylight. Yeah, I've been watching them. You've arrived? Good. I remember there are three more in the management office booth, they're with them. Yeah, good, good luck! If you catch them, I'll treat you to dinner on behalf of all the citizens of City B!"

Chen Yi snapped out of her daze when she heard Li Jia answer the phone. She then realized that she might have been a little too agitated. She glanced at Li Jia on the other end of the line and, seeing that Li Jia didn't have any particular expression, she relaxed.

"Is your friend a policeman?" Chen Yi asked casually as she sipped her coffee, noticing that Li Jia had already hung up the phone.

"Yes, the elite officers of the criminal investigation team, those thieves won't get away this time!" Li Jia finished speaking, adjusted to a comfortable position, picked up her Ovaltine and took a delicious sip.

"Oh, look, the police are here!" Chen Yi stood up excitedly, grabbed Li Jia's arm and pointed out the window. Her voice immediately attracted the attention of others. After all, a sound suddenly appearing in a quiet space naturally drew everyone's attention.

Chen Yi noticed the stares of those around her, playfully stuck out her tongue, then apologized to everyone with a slightly flushed face. She then sat down, but her eyes were fixed nervously on the scene outside the window.

Li Jia paid the bill for the two of them, ordered a cappuccino for Chen Yi, told Chen Yi to wait for him there, and then left Starbucks.

Although Chen Yi also wanted to go out, Li Jia's words were hard for her to resist. Even though it was just a short sentence, "Stay here, I'll be right back," it gave her an unprecedented feeling. It felt warm, no, it was the feeling of being cared for. Yes, it was care!

Li Jia had already walked out of the Starbucks and approached Jiang Ling. "Congratulations! You've successfully caught a bunch of rats for the citizens!"

"Yeah, this is a bunch of super rats. The team has received hundreds of reports of stolen license plates. We've set up traps many times but haven't caught them. Every time we try to make an arrest, we come back empty-handed. This time, we finally caught these bastards!" Jiang Ling was in high spirits after seeing Li Jia.

"Hello! You're the one who called the police, right? On behalf of the Criminal Investigation Team, thank you so much. These rats are really hard to catch. Thanks to your timely report, we were able to catch them all in one fell swoop." Liu Zhiqiang, the captain of the Criminal Investigation Team's First Squad and Jiang Ling's superior, grabbed Li Jia's hand and thanked her loudly.

Before Li Jia could even express her feelings as a good citizen, a group of police officers had already put all five people, including the three people in the management office booth, into police cars and quickly left the scene.

Jiang Ling excitedly greeted Li Jia and then got into another car and left. At this time, only four or five people ran out of the Starbucks. They ran to their cars, looked angrily at their bare license plates, and kept swearing. Finally, Li Jia told them that the license plates had been sent to the criminal police station and that they should go get them.
