Jiang Tiecheng was reborn.
Just because he drew the lot to take over his father's job, he got an immense benefit.
His entire life, he had to help his mother raise his younger siblin...
That evening, Sister-in-law Huang returned home.
Huang Youqing was sitting on the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed) lecturing someone.
Some of the people who were clamoring to quit this afternoon are now sitting in their house.
"What do you want to do? You've gone to great lengths to bring these money-making jobs to our village. With the money we earn, we can exchange it for grain and have enough to eat."
"Aren't you guys hungry?"
“I tell you.”
Tomorrow you all need to go back and apologize properly to Team Leader Jiang, and get back to work.
"You guys are unwilling to do anything that makes money? Have you lost your minds?"
Huang Youqing was so anxious when he heard about this that he was jumping up and down. It was not easy for the production brigade to take on such a big job.
There's so much work to do; if this doesn't work out, the rest of the show will be ruined.
Section Chief Xu had always been suspicious of them.
If this really happens again, their production brigade will never have another chance to get work.
When Huang Youqing heard about this, he was really furious, which is why he summoned several key figures.
He wanted to use his prestige as the production team leader to suppress these people and resolve the matter.
It wasn't that he particularly liked Jiang Tiecheng, but rather that he had to unconditionally help Jiang Tiecheng in this matter.
Huang Youqing clearly understood that helping Jiang Tiecheng was helping themselves.
The women in front of him immediately rolled their eyes.
"Captain, shouldn't you be willing to make this money?"
"Making us freeze in the warehouse in such cold weather, is that something a human being would do?"
“He’s surnamed Jiang, he doesn’t treat us like human beings, and you don’t treat us like human beings either!”
"I said I wouldn't do it, and I mean it."
"If he's so capable, let him sew those quilts himself. We want to see if those few of them can even manage to make them."
"Alright, Captain, we understand what you mean, but we can't let this young guy treat us like grandsons."
"Captain, we know what we're doing."
These women were clearly out of control; since Huang Youqing wasn't in charge, they naturally wouldn't listen.
Huang Youqing wanted to give her some heartfelt advice, but then he saw his wife lift the curtain and come in.
Sister-in-law Huang said with a smile,
"Hey, are you done chatting? If you're done, hurry up and go home. I'm exhausted after a long day and need to rest."
"Honey, hurry up! What are they trying to do? You think you can control them? They're not even starving!"
"Get me some food, I'm starving."
I made 550 quilts this afternoon.
"This Xiao Jiang is really something. No wonder he's so cultured. Cultured people think differently from us."
The women who were about to leave were stunned when they heard this.
"Huh? Director, what do you mean by that?"
"How could you possibly make 550 quilts in one afternoon? There are only so many people in the group."
Everyone's head looks like it's been struck by lightning.
"Oh dear, would I lie? Xiao Jiang is really amazing. He can make quilts for us with ease."
"Would I lie to you? If you don't believe me, go ask other people. I wasn't the only one making quilts this afternoon."
"We can make 550 quilts in one afternoon, and 1,100 quilts a day."
"This was only because of the delay this afternoon. I might have done even more this afternoon. If we had done it like Xiao Jiang did tomorrow morning, I reckon we could have done 10,000 without any problem."
"Wow, you can earn four or five yuan a day."
"Twenty or thirty yuan a week, if converted into grain, could buy at least 150 jin of cornmeal."
"Oh my God, now the kids at home can finally have food to eat."
Several women, disbelieving, rushed to the homes of their acquaintances.
How many quilts did you make this afternoon?
"Not many were done, just... two."
"Two?"
"He really did two by himself."
"It's a good thing you didn't go. Look at how we'll never be able to deliver the goods if things continue like this; we'll probably lose everything."
"No way?"
"Really, really, why would I lie to you?"
Another one.
"How many quilts did you make this afternoon? I heard from the women's director that..."
"Oh dear, don't listen to what the women's director said."
We didn't produce many; we couldn't produce anything after you left.
"You know how it is to make a quilt. Just getting all that stuff out of the cotton and stuffing takes an hour."
"What did the director say..."
"The director is just trying to coax you back, so don't listen to him."
…………
Several women came out of their homes and sat together, their faces full of confusion.
"How's the investigation going?"
I asked Erhua'er.
Erhua said it was impossible to make; it wasn't as mysterious as the director made it out to be.
They worked frantically this afternoon, and it was already this dark by the time they finished making two quilts.
“I also asked Zhao Di, and she said it wouldn’t work either; she couldn’t make it. She was too slow to finish just one quilt.”
"I told you, they were definitely talking nonsense. A capable person like us can only make three quilts a day at most."
"They made 550 blankets in one afternoon, which is almost four blankets per person on average."
And it took an entire afternoon? Nobody believes that.
"I knew something was wrong. The director must be trying to fool us into going back to work, making us swallow our pride and go back first."
"Everyone, hold on, we absolutely cannot go back."
