Chapter 41 Thirteen of the Myriad Realms

Lieutenant Colonel Frey and the King walked side by side toward the source of the sound, followed by squads of heavily armored royal guards.

Although the king looked old and frail, he walked alongside Lieutenant Colonel Frey without falling behind by even a step.

While it was partly due to Lieutenant Colonel Frey deliberately walking slowly, it also showed that the King was not a weakling.

The two, along with a group of guards behind them, walked down the brightly lit corridor.

In a short while, the group found the place where the sound came from.

Lieutenant Colonel Frey frowned as he looked at the two groups of people standing in the corridor.

The group of seven were the new recruits he had brought with him, while on the other side were several disheveled, obese, and greasy ministers of the kingdom and the captain of the guard.

The two groups were separated by an open door, which Lieutenant Colonel Frey recalled appeared to be the room of one of his female recruits.

Based on this, Lieutenant Colonel Frey had already guessed what had probably happened here.

It was nothing more than those kingdom ministers getting entangled with his female soldiers, and judging from the anger on the faces of those new recruits, it wasn't hard to guess that the female soldier might not have been there voluntarily.

Although he had already made up his mind, Lieutenant Colonel Frey still had to ask the king as a matter of routine, since the king was beside him.

Lieutenant Colonel Frey stared sternly at the leader of the new recruits, who was shirtless. If it weren't for the two other recruits holding him back, he probably would have charged at the ministers.

"Soldiers! What are you doing?!" Lieutenant Colonel Frey's authoritative voice rang in everyone's ears.

The king, meanwhile, merely squinted slightly, quietly observing the crowd before him.

Number One broke free from the pull of the two men behind him, pointed at the ministers in front of him, and shouted angrily at Lieutenant Colonel Frey:

"Sir, these beasts drugged and assaulted Bai Xue when she wasn't paying attention. If I hadn't come to see Bai Xue just in time, she probably would have been tortured to death by them!"

Lieutenant Colonel Frey ignored Number One's disrespectful tone and simply walked towards the door between the two groups.

As Lieutenant Colonel Frey approached, the ministers tactfully made way for him, watching him walk past.

Several ministers looked at the new recruits opposite them with mocking eyes. Since Lieutenant Colonel Frey did not get angry immediately, they knew that this time it would be a simple apology as usual.

After all, he was just a new recruit, and a lowly orphan at that. If he died, he would die. Besides, this good-looking recruit was still alive.

Number One also noticed the ministers' gazes. He was suppressing his anger; he couldn't move, no matter how furious he was, because there were several newcomers behind him. If he acted now, he might escape, but what about the newcomers…?

Thinking of this, Number One stared intently at the ministers, his fists clenched tightly, his whole body trembling with rage.

Lieutenant Colonel Frey also walked to the door and saw the scene inside the room.

Bai Xue was lying on her back on the luxurious bed, wearing nothing but a navy uniform. Considering that number one was shirtless, it must have been his uniform.

The exposed parts of Bai Xue's body were covered with wounds, and beneath her fair legs lay a silk mattress stained red with blood.

Looking at Bai Xue lying on the bed, her chest rising and falling, Lieutenant Colonel Frey knew that the recruit was alright, so he closed the door behind him.

He'd experienced this kind of thing more than once or twice, and besides, this time the recruit only suffered minor injuries, just a bit more blood loss.

After closing the door, Lieutenant Colonel Frey glanced briefly at the seven recruits before turning to the ministers and addressing the head of the guard:

"Gentlemen, I'll let it go this time for the sake of King Anguo, even though it's just a minor injury. But how many Berries are you planning to pay in compensation?"

Lieutenant Colonel Frey's casual voice reached everyone's ears.

The head of the guards looked at the tall Lieutenant Colonel Frey standing before him and said with a hint of respect:

"Lieutenant Colonel, we were in the wrong this time. We will prepare 100,000 Berries to send to the warship tomorrow."

Lieutenant Colonel Frey nodded slightly upon hearing the captain of the guard's words, as that was how it had always been done. As for the 100,000 Berries? They would be his once they were sent aboard the warship. As for the few new recruits, a few hundred Berries would suffice to get rid of them.

Just as Lieutenant Colonel Frey was about to leave and head towards the King, Number One's face, twisted with rage, was fixed on Frey's back, and he questioned him, word by word:

"Sir! Are we just going to let it go like this, treating Bai Xue like this?!"

Lieutenant Colonel Frey merely glanced at Number One, his steps unwavering despite Number One's questioning, as he continued toward the King.

“New recruit, watch your words. If you weren’t an ability user, I would have executed you all on the spot just for saying that. I hope this is the last time.”

Lieutenant Colonel Frey's slightly threatening voice echoed through the crowded corridor.

Number One looked at the new recruits behind him, and seeing the look in their eyes, he also lowered his clenched fists.

Because he saw the pleading in their eyes, begging him not to take action; they didn't want to defy the seemingly formidable Lieutenant Colonel Frey for someone they'd only known for a few days.

At this moment, the king spoke up.

"You may all step back, Lieutenant Colonel Frey. Please forgive the rudeness of my men."

The king was smiling as he looked at Lieutenant Colonel Frey approaching, his wrinkles crinkling into a deep smile.
