In the Apocalypse, Ke Meiyu was a “canary” kept by the big shot Ying Yan.
She resented the big shot’s domineering, indifferent, and ruthless nature, yet yearned for the freedom of an ordinary...
After filling out the forms, Ke Yuanda carefully put the seven forms into a document bag, tied it with string, and handed it in to the village committee.
Everyone finally breathed a sigh of relief and started busying themselves with the raising of the roof beam in the new house!
With the tireless efforts of the strong men in the village, the first brick house in Luofeng Village was completed.
In the courtyard, which is about half an acre in size, a row of three red-walled and green-tiled houses were built, and the furniture that the old man and Ke Lao Si had arranged for Ke Meiyu was also placed there.
Almost all the villagers of Luofeng Village came to visit and help create a lively atmosphere.
The old lady, Ke's mother, and Ke Meiyu carried small bags and distributed pretty fruit candies and a homemade wild boar jerky to everyone!
The courtyard is built on a high foundation, with a stream flowing around the village in front and a row of bamboo groves behind.
The stones left over from laying the foundation were used to pave paths inside and outside the courtyard, which were clean and tidy. There was also a simple thatched pavilion next to the bamboo grove, with a stone table and chairs underneath. Surrounding it were rows of hardy wildflowers and saplings, creating a truly idyllic and peaceful atmosphere.
Everyone has their own plot of land, but the organization has not stipulated that wildflowers cannot be planted on wasteland!
But everyone was struggling to even fill their stomachs, burdened by a life of poverty, so how could they have the mind to think about such things?
The wall, built of scrap bricks, is two meters high. With a foundation half a meter above the ground and a row of sharp shards of glass on the thick wall, it can keep out many thieves and wild boars coming down from the back mountain to forage.
A row of fruit trees, such as jujube trees, apricot trees, apple trees, walnut trees, and chestnut trees, were planted around the foundation!
Climbing the steps, the heavy wooden door opens to reveal a screen wall made of a small bamboo grove. Turning the corner, you'll find a row of brick and tile sheds used to store bicycles and other items that are susceptible to getting wet. On either side, there's a separate room serving as a kitchen and a bathroom.
On one side of the yard are transplanted grapevines that are half-grown, a rattan swing chair, and rustic tables and chairs made from old tree stumps that have been carved, polished, and waxed!
The pool, about ten feet square, was filled with fresh water. Several small fish darted about in fright, while a pair of turtles lazily sunbathed on a rock in the middle.
Next to it is a small flower garden, where chrysanthemums of various colors are in full bloom, and wild roses that never fade.
On the other side of the stone road are two vegetable plots and a hand pump well for easy access to water.
Two gnarled pomegranate trees, like two guards, stand on either side of the main house.
The white walls made the room bright and spacious. Directly opposite the door was a square table carved from jujube wood and two round chairs. The dining table was folded up and placed against the wall, along with several long benches.
On either side are bedrooms with small partitions, one with a kang (heated brick bed), and the other with a solid wood bed. Desks, chairs, bookshelves, chests of drawers, wooden chests, and wardrobes—everything is provided!
They even bought almost all the small everyday items.
There were two vegetable plots across the back of the house, and further away against the wall was a place for raising livestock, as well as a clean and hygienic toilet.
After everyone had looked around, they were all astonished. Could this be what the life of a landlord was like?
Unfortunately, aside from the house being built with bricks and tiles, they could easily replicate everything else with a little effort. It just goes to show how much city people know how to enjoy life; the Ke family's Fu Bao'er is lucky!
Ke Meiyu was somewhat stunned; this house was truly built to her liking in every way.
Just like food, which will be forever etched into the soul of those living in the apocalypse, and remembered for a lifetime.
This small courtyard also filled her with a sense of security, making her wandering heart seem to have truly settled down!
She pursed her lips and turned her head to look at Qin Yuanjiu, who was patiently accompanying her grandfather and father. A bittersweet feeling of emotion welled up inside her.
After everyone left, she sidled up to Qin Yuanjiu and nudged him, "Does your mom know how good you are at charming girls?"
Poke someone and get 20! Poke someone and get 20! ...
Qin Yuanjiu raised an eyebrow as usual, scoffed, and held out an arm's length to block the person. "Comrade Ke, I've noticed you're dreaming too much. Do you think the world revolves around you?"
"If I can make myself more comfortable, why should I make myself suffer?"
I'm totally satisfied with being patted on the head!
Ke Meiyu raised her chin and pointed to the swing in the yard: "You, a seven-foot-tall man, don't actually swing on a swing, do you?"
Qin Yuanjiu followed her hand and looked at it. "Oh, you mean that one? There was a lot of wood left over, so I made one for you while I was at it."
Ke Meiyu looked at him with an "I understand" expression. "It's just the awkwardness of a chauvinistic man. He can't express his love!"
However, the grown man continued slowly, "In this way, people will say that the seventh sister of the Ke family really knows how to enjoy herself, and it's really poor Comrade Qin who has to suffer from this pampered girl..."
Ke Meiyu angrily bared her teeth and claws at him, but she was just a little girl with short arms and legs in front of him, and she couldn't reach him no matter what she did!
That's infuriating enough!
What she found even more unbearable was Qin Yuanjiu's nonchalant remark: "We have two bedrooms in our courtyard. Ladies first. You choose one, and the remaining one is mine."
"However, given that your family loves you and can't bear to see you suffer, we have to pretend to be very loving in front of them and not let anyone know that we're separated. Is that too much to ask?"
“I can sense that you want to marry me, but I’m only doing this because I have no interest in women, and you don’t want to put up with your mother’s nagging. This arrangement is good for both of us.”
What about saving face?
Where did her dignity as a stunningly beautiful woman go?
Why was she so disliked? It's true that in novels, the male protagonist always manages to get noticed by the female protagonist who goes against the grain!
This method is absolutely infuriating!
Ke Meiyu was furious. She took a big step back, pointed at him, and said, "Fine, very well, Qin Yuanjiu, you must remember what you said!"
Qin Yuanjiu lowered his eyelids slightly and hummed, "Of course I keep my word, but if Comrade Ke is lusting after my good looks, then I might reluctantly resist and give in to you."
"That day will never come," Ke Meiyu hummed confidently.
She turned to leave, but remembering that she hadn't reached her full peace value for the day, she immediately turned back, jumped at the person, grabbed their face, and bit them.
Biting people gets 100 points!
Before anyone could react, she jumped far away, walked backwards with her hands behind her back, and said with a smile, "No matter what, Comrade Qin, I still thank you for going to such lengths to build such a comfortable home."
"I really like it, and I look forward to working with you in the future!"
As the woman's cheerful laughter faded into the distance, Qin Yuanjiu rubbed his slightly aching cheek and chuckled softly, "Yu'er, I've never forgotten your preferences..."
Completed her daily tasks, she felt incredibly relaxed. Ke Mei, in a moment of exuberance, picked two wildflowers and stuck them in her hair, holding a bunch in her hands as well. Every day, she had wasted far too many brain cells trying to earn 500 peace points.
She popped a chocolate into her mouth, squinted her eyes, and sighed contentedly.
"What? The application form for the worker-peasant college student is lost?" She hadn't even entered the courtyard when she heard her own father's loud shout.
