Chapter 14: Returning to the Farmland

Yuan Doudou didn't even lift her eyelids and continued eating.

Wang kept her head down and remained silent.

An Bihuai was furious, but before he could vent his anger, half of it was extinguished.

“Sister-in-law, look at this. This is the daughter you raised, your good daughter-in-law. What kind of skill is it to bully your own family?” An Bihuai pulled up Zhuang Shuhui’s arm, lifted her sleeve, and revealed the purple bruises on her wrist.

Zhuang Shuhui covered her face and cried, making a racket that gave everyone a headache.

"Second Uncle, are you here to interrogate me?" Yuan Doudou put down her chopsticks after eating until she was about 70% full. "But didn't Anzhuang say why?"

Anbihuai opened his eyes wide, stretching out the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, and his two small mustaches twitched like catfish whiskers.

"Yuan Doudou, you're absolutely arrogant!" An Bihua shouted. "Your second aunt said you were disrespectful to her, but I didn't believe it. You've grown bolder after just a few months, haven't you? Today, I'm going to teach you a lesson on behalf of my older brother."

Yuan Doudou remained unfazed as she watched An Bihuai's fist swing towards her.

No wonder they're a married couple, they're cut from the same cloth.

"An Bihuai, stop right now!" Madam Wang jumped up from the stool, pointed at An Bihuai, and said sternly.

An Bihuai subconsciously took a half step back; he always felt intimidated whenever he saw his sister-in-law.

"Sister-in-law, don't misunderstand, I didn't hit her." An Bihua put his hands behind his back, giving a forced smile.

Yuan Doudou noticed that her mother-in-law's hands were trembling. Fearing that she might hurt herself by getting too excited, she quickly stepped forward to support her. "Mom, let me help you into the house."

She could handle An Bihuai and his wife all by herself.

Wang felt dizzy and unsteady on her feet. Luckily, Yuan Doudou supported her and she didn't fall. She wanted to protect Yuan Doudou, but her body wouldn't cooperate.

"Okay, remember not to overexert yourself," Wang said weakly.

After Wang entered the house, Yuan Doudou walked to the courtyard with a cold face.

"Second Uncle, if you want to teach me a lesson, you should see if you have the right to do so?" Yuan Doudou raised her delicate eyebrows, her eyes sharp.

An Bihuai clenched his fists. This girl used to be timid and hesitant, never daring to go east when told to go west. Now she seems like a completely different person.

“I am your second uncle, that’s the right. Today you must kowtow to your second aunt and admit your mistake.” As soon as Wang left, An Bihuai struck a pose.

"Hehe." Yuan Doudou couldn't help but laugh out loud.

An Bihua's face darkened, and he demanded, "What are you laughing at? I'll make you kneel down."

Zhuang Shuhui looked at An Bihuai with admiration. No one in the world could surpass her husband. He was so domineering.

"What if I don't kneel down and admit my mistake?" Yuan Doudou asked, head held high, neither humble nor arrogant.

"Believe it or not, I'll beat you until you beg for mercy!" An Bihuai raised his fist, as big as a sandbag, easily scaring a little girl.

Yuan Doudou's lips curled up. "I don't believe it."

She looked down at Angie standing in the doorway, and her heart sank. Violence was not the only way to solve problems, and it wouldn't be good for the child to see it.

“Second Uncle, it’s not impossible for me to admit my mistake.” Yuan Doudou thought for a moment and continued, “Unless you return the land deed for the five acres of land.”

"What?" An Bihuai roared in fury. "Yuan Doudou, are you crazy? That's our An family's land, not yours."

Seeing his exasperated state, Yuan Doudou couldn't help but laugh. "I am An Rong's wife, and Anji is a member of the An family. Second Uncle, are you getting senile?"

“With Anrong gone, you took it upon yourself to seize our land, claiming it was to help our orphaned mother and child. But what was the result? You harvested the grain, but only gave us a pitiful little bit. When Mother fell seriously ill and asked you to reclaim our property, you refused to admit it and even made me write an IOU before you would hand over three taels of silver, shamelessly including interest. Second Uncle, I'm curious, don't you have nightmares at night? If Father and Husband are watching from heaven, won't they come after you to settle accounts?”

Yuan Doudou's words were exquisite, resounding, and thought-provoking.

An Bihuai was filled with fear and anxiety, and was on the verge of tears.

Zhuang Shuhui pinched his arm, afraid that her husband would soften his heart, "Don't be fooled by her."

An Bihuai shook his head, trying to calm himself down. The past is the past; now it's time to focus on the present. He absolutely cannot let Yuan Doudou take back the land deed. He has three sons, and there are many things that require money.

“Yuan Doudou, I won’t listen to your nonsense. With my older brother gone, I am the backbone of this family. Everything is up to me. Anji is still young. You can’t starve with your little plot of land.”

"Second Uncle, I'm not discussing this with you. I'm taking this land today." Yuan Doudou's tone was firm.

You delivered yourself to her doorstep, so don't blame her for being ruthless.

"The village head is here." Yuan Doudou looked towards the door, where Zhou Chuangen flashed past.

Yuan Doudou hurriedly went outside, her face beaming, "Uncle Chuangen, I just stewed some chicken at home, could you take some back for Aunt Xianglin to try?"

The village head came by smelling the aroma of chicken. Even though he didn't get to eat rabbit meat, a bowl of chicken was still quite nice.

"I knew you were a good kid." He was just snorting at him, how come he suddenly changed his tune?

Yuan Doudou said with a smile, "Uncle Chuangen, actually I've encountered a difficult situation and need you to be my witness."

When Zhou Chuangen heard that he was being asked to do something, he tried to leave, but before he could, Yuan Doudou pulled him into the courtyard.

"Village head, what brings you here?" An Bihuai saw Zhou Chuangen and reacted like a mouse seeing a cat.

The village head glanced at it and realized it was An Bihuai, that spineless coward, who wouldn't cause any trouble.

"Yes, I was asked by An Rong's wife to come here as a witness." Zhou Chuangen was clear-headed and guessed why they were here.

Yuan Doudou said seriously, "Second Uncle, I've invited the village head for you. Today, in front of the village head, we'll exchange the land deed and the interest."

She can still afford fifty coins now.
