Waking up from a dream, Su Yun transmigrated from a modern office worker to a young wife in an ancient rural village. Not only did she have an elderly and frail mother-in-law, but also two young an...
Su Yun'er sighed: Old Mrs. Chen really misses her son Chen Shanhe.
Standing up and sitting down next to Old Mrs. Chen, Su Yun'er gently patted Old Mrs. Chen's back without saying a word, but it was already a comforting gesture.
After feeling sad for a while, Grandma Chen wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and blamed herself embarrassedly: "Look at me, what's wrong with me? Life is getting better and better, why am I so ungrateful?"
Grandma Chen chuckled twice, trying to ease the awkwardness.
After all, the good life we have now is earned through the hard work of my daughter-in-law. If I cry like this, it will inevitably make my daughter-in-law feel bad and think that I am ungrateful. So I want to smile to cover up my sadness and ease the awkwardness.
Su Yun'er understood what she was thinking, but she didn't see anything wrong with it. Chen Shanhe was her son, whom she had raised herself, but he had been taken to a dangerous battlefield and disappeared without a trace. Who wouldn't worry and be sad in her shoes?
Old Mrs. Chen's longing for her son was aroused even more by Lin Moniang and Ma Xiaolan, but before that, who knows how many times the old lady had secretly grieved.
Especially those years when the original owner acted foolishly, causing the old lady to suffer injustice.
After silently comforting Old Mrs. Chen for a while and seeing that she was feeling better, Su Yun'er brought up the story of Little Tree and Little Grass going to school again.
She said, "Mother, I need to make three rules with you regarding the children's schooling."
"Three rules?" Old Mrs. Chen didn't quite understand these four words, but she felt that it meant to establish rules, so she nodded. "Tell me, as long as it's for the children's education, I will agree to it. I will absolutely not hold the children back."
Su Yun'er nodded: "Studying is a tough job, especially for families like ours. Throughout history, no one has ever been able to study without being scolded by their teachers. So, I will inevitably have to reprimand them. No matter how much you feel sorry for them, you can't stop me, otherwise, they might not be taught well and might develop a lot of bad habits."
Upon hearing this, Old Mrs. Chen felt a pang of pain in her heart.
My precious grandchildren are going to have a hard time from now on.
But for the sake of their education and for their future prospects, Grandma Chen nodded firmly: "Okay, whatever you say."
After giving Old Mrs. Chen a heads-up, Su Yun'er called out loudly, "Little trees and grass, come quick!"
The little tree and grass had been waiting outside for a while. Knowing that their mother wanted to talk to their grandmother, they were very sensible and didn't come in, waiting to be called.
"Little trees, little grass, come here and stand still." Su Yun'er's expression was gentle yet serious, and the little trees and grass unconsciously became nervous and stood in line in front of Su Yun'er.
"Little tree, little grass, these are the books your mother brought back. One is called the Three Character Classic, and the other is called the Thousand Character Classic. They are for your early education."
"You said you were willing to study, so you must study diligently and seriously. No one can succeed by just glancing at a couple of pages. I will teach you your basic education. I will check what I teach each day before breakfast the next morning. If you can't recite or remember anything, you won't be allowed to eat until you remember and recite it. Do you understand?"
The little trees and grass looked at each other, feeling both surprised and incredulous.
What made me happy was that I could start school so soon, but what I couldn't believe was that my mother was the one teaching me to read?
When did Mom become so amazing?
The two children's eyes were full of questions, but Su Yun'er had no intention of explaining to them why she could read and write.
She cleared her throat lightly, and the two children immediately looked away from each other and looked at Su Yun'er.
"For now, we'll tentatively have classes every morning, and you can study on your own in the afternoon. The location and method don't matter. If you don't understand something, just ask me. Then, there will be a test the next morning. Do you understand?"
The little trees and grass nodded quickly; "Understood."
"Alright, it's getting late. Do you want to learn a couple of lines tonight, or wait until tomorrow?"
Tonight!
Tonight!
The two children shouted in unison.
Su Yun'er nodded in satisfaction; the children's reaction was exactly what she had expected.
"Okay, then I'll tell you this as a bedtime story before you go to sleep." Su Yun'er picked up the Three Character Classic.
"The Three Character Classic, what a strange name. Is it something a monk would recite?" Old Mrs. Chen repeated the book's title and smiled.
"It's because every sentence in this book consists of three characters, like a three-character rhyme. It can be sung and recited, it's easy to understand and catchy, making it perfect as an introductory text," Su Yun'er explained.
Su Yun'er lowered her head to look through the book, while Old Mrs. Chen leaned back and, thinking she was out of Su Yun'er's sight, made a few gestures towards the small trees and grass, and then winked at them.
Thanks to the telepathic connection between the three generations of the family, the two children quickly understood what Grandma Chen meant.
"Mom, please read a few lines to us first," Xiao Shu said coquettishly, supporting Su Yun'er's knees and twisting her body.
The little grass also pleaded.
Grandma Chen also said, "The children are so enthusiastic about learning, why don't you read a few lines to them?"
Su Yun'er laughed. Was Old Mrs. Chen trying to test her knowledge?
That's fine, then let them rest assured.
Su Yun'er: "Okay, then I'll read a few passages for you to hear."
Su Yun'er didn't open the book; she simply placed it back on the table and began reciting: "At birth, people are inherently good; their natures are similar, but their habits differ. If they are not taught, their natures will change; the way to teach is to focus on one thing at a time..."
As she recited, Su Yun'er stood up and paced around the room, reciting the poem sentence by sentence. The little trees and grasses listened with fascination, and even Old Mrs. Chen was captivated, listening with great interest.
