Chapter 275 A Tenfold Repayment is Definitely Needed

"The shorter boy has a very delicate face, with round, darting eyes that look cunning. As for the taller one, he's also a pretty boy with a stiff face and doesn't like to talk. That shorty stole the pawnshop's prized possession; you must capture him and bring him back."

The shopkeeper rattled off a whole bunch of things.

Song Tantan and Ye Moxun, who were mixed in with the crowd, twitched their lips, exchanged glances for a moment, and then turned and left.

The shopkeeper kept calling him a "little dwarf," which infuriated Song Tantan. She wished she could go back and shave the shopkeeper's head so he could taste what it's like to lose his scalp.

Soon the two swaggered back to the inn, sat down in the main hall and ordered a few meat dishes. While eating, they kept an eye on their surroundings. Sure enough, not long after, the people sent by the pawnshop owner's backer searched the inn where they were staying.

"Sir, what brings you here?" The innkeeper greeted them with a beaming smile, his attitude respectful yet obsequious.

"Someone reported to the authorities that we are arresting two petty thieves who stole something extremely important."

The leader was the young man they had seen at the pawnshop entrance. He seemed to be of high status, and the others seemed to know him well. When he came in, they all lowered their heads like quails, trying to minimize their presence and not daring to speak.

Song Tantan and Ye Moxun were both guessing the identity of this person. He didn't look like a constable, but rather like someone from the military camp. However, this group of people were wearing civilian clothes, not military uniforms, which was quite intriguing.

In short, as soon as that man spoke, the people behind him began to search indiscriminately, ordering the women present to take out their belongings and searching the men.

When they searched Song Tantan, since she was dressed as a man, they naturally wanted to search her body as well. Just as Song Tantan was about to retaliate, Ye Moxun was one step ahead of her and pressed down on the hand that the henchman was reaching out to.

"What are you doing?" the man asked arrogantly, as if he was about to make a move at any moment.

Ye Moxun remained calm and pushed the person a few steps away, saying, "She is my fiancée, so naturally I cannot allow you to search her."

"If you're a woman, why are you dressed as a man? I think there's something wrong with you. How dare you obstruct officials from carrying out their duties? You must have a death wish!" The henchman, who claimed to be an official, had a face that showed he was used to bullying others and would make trouble for anyone who didn't do his job.

"We dress like this for convenience when we're out and about, not what you think, sir." Ye Moxun's expression was gentle, seemingly easy to talk to, but a closer look would reveal that the temperature in his eyes had dropped to freezing.

“We’ll talk about the facts when we get back. One is tall and the other is short, the shorter one looks very young,” the henchman said, his eyes glued to Song Tantan as he sized her up without restraint. Then he called out to the leader, “Brother Chao, these two kids look a lot like the shopkeeper described.”

Upon hearing this, Yan Chao immediately strode over, stared at the two for a moment, nodded slightly, and said, "Take them back for interrogation."

"Without any evidence, you're arresting people just because you think it looks like it? Is there no law in this Changye City?" Song Tantan questioned in a deep voice, meeting the other party's gaze warily.

People around gasped, seemingly shocked by Song Tantan's audacity. Yan Chao was the nephew of the Changye City garrison commander. How dare this man challenge him? Was he tired of living?

"Enough with the nonsense. The evidence will come naturally, but you'll have to come with me first. Men, seize him." Yan Chao sneered. He had a long face and pale skin, giving him a particularly gloomy look, the perfect aura of a villain.

"Wait, don't touch me, I can walk by myself." Song Tantan raised her hand to stop the other people from getting closer, then quickly pulled Ye Moxun and ran towards the outer door.

Because she moved so fast, by the time Yan Chao and the others reacted, the two had already rushed out of the inn.

"Slap." The henchman was slapped.

"Fool, hurry up and chase after them!" Yan Chao realized he had been tricked, and his face turned really ugly. The other party was truly cunning.

Once Song Tantan and Ye Mo found their way out of the inn, they naturally ran away. Did they want to be caught?

The two darted through the crowd, making Yan Chao and the others chase after them so fast they almost lost them.

But every time they almost lost them, they would quickly spot the two again. They chased each other for about half an hour before Yan Chao and the others finally blocked their escape route on a deserted path.

"Now let's see where you run, you little bastards." A dozen or so henchmen, panting heavily, knelt down and surrounded the two men.

In comparison, the two surrounded by enemies looked refreshed and showed no signs of distress, making it hard to tell who was chasing whom.

Not long after, Yan Chao arrived with four others. The five of them were clearly skilled in martial arts, as they maintained their breathing steadily despite running such a long distance.

Unlike these small fry who seem to chase people very diligently, but once they catch up, they can't catch their breath and are left to be slaughtered.

"I underestimated you two little brats. Tell me, what are you trying to do by deliberately leading us here?" Yan Chao, who looked cunning, was not brainless after all, and quickly saw through their intentions.

Song Tantan raised her chin and said sarcastically, "What else can we do? We were forced to run for our lives because of you. We just didn't want to be caught for no reason, but you were determined to catch up with us. What could we do but play along to the end?"

After saying that, she drew her imposing two-meter-long broadsword and shouted, "If you want to fight, then fight! Enough with the nonsense! Whoever wins is the stronger one!"

Ye Moxun was reluctant to fight, as he was always too lazy to get into fights. However, he had already used the powder at the pawnshop, and the shopkeeper had specifically pointed that out, so he hesitated for a moment.

Seeing that Song Tantan had no intention of revealing his identity, they could only hold back for the time being. Oh well, they might as well treat the fight as a workout.
