Chapter 311 To Be a Father or Not?

Zhao Denglong naturally knew Zhao Wanzi's thoughts; the child's dream was to become an accountant.

However, she would occasionally glance at those ledgers; to be honest, she could manage a casual look. If she had to keep accounts every day, her brain would probably explode.

"Then go ask your mother. What's the use of telling me?" She didn't make the decision herself.

Zhao Wanzi sighed, "Do you think I would ask you if I wanted to get out of bed? How will I stay warm in bed after all that back and forth?"

Besides, there were still people asleep in the house, so she couldn't very well shout for her mother to come over.

Zhao Denglong gritted her teeth and retorted fiercely, "How can you not be lazy to death!"

Zhao Wanzi raised her eyebrows, looking quite smug.

Even though her sister said that to her, Zhao Wanzi believed that her sister would still help her.

The large house fell silent again, and Chen and Xiao Mingzhu next door continued to sleep in bed.

Although Cheng Ying had to stay home to watch over the baby, she noticed that the little girl on the bed showed no signs of waking up. She decided to go to the shop first to get the breakfast her family wanted.

She walked there herself; it wasn't far to go there and back anyway.

So, in Zhao Wanzi's room, only A Nuan and Zhao Wanzi remained.

After an unknown amount of time, when a sliver of light appeared in the sky outside, the person on the bed finally stirred.

Ah Nuan slowly opened her eyes and looked at everything in the room.

She didn't sleep well last night, having many bad dreams that scared her so much she broke out in a sweat.

Everything was sticky and clinging to her body, making Ah Nuan shift uncomfortably.

When Anuan saw the young lady sitting on the opposite bed reading a book, she couldn't help but feel very curious.

"Did you not sleep at all last night?"

Why is it that I watch her recite her lessons before she goes to sleep, and I still watch her recite her lessons after she wakes up?

If it were a boy, it would be one thing, but this was the first time she had ever seen a young girl studying so diligently.

The quiet room was broken by this sentence.

Zhao Wanzi was slightly startled, and turned her head to see A Nuan lying on the bed.

Aside from Xiao Mingzhu, this was the first time Zhao Wanzi had seen a child younger than herself. This immediately piqued her curiosity.

How old are you?

Zhao Wanzi did not answer A Nuan's question, but instead asked her own question.

Ah Nuan bit her lip and still answered, "Four years old."

Zhao Wanzi shook her head. "She doesn't look like a four-year-old."

To be honest, Zhao Wanzi felt that this girl was rather mature. In fact, much more mature than her.

Believe it or not.

Wow, not only is he mature, but he also has quite a temper.

Despite being treated this way, Zhao Wanzi wasn't annoyed. Instead, she smiled and said, "I didn't say I didn't believe you. I just said you might look a little bigger."

Ah Nuan looked at Zhao Wanzi with a puzzled expression, but didn't say anything.

"How are you feeling today? If you're hungry, you'll have to wait a bit. Sister Yingzi went to the shop to get some food." Zhao Wanzi closed her book and turned to look at Anuan.

Ah Nuan tried to move her hands and feet, but found it was still a bit difficult.

"It's alright, thank you for saving me." Anuan said gratefully.

There are only the two kids in the house, and it would be quite boring if they didn't chat. They can't just stay together and ignore each other, that would be too awkward.

"Do you have family? Should we try to contact them?" Zhao Wanzi asked tentatively.

"They're gone, they're all dead."

Zhao Wanzi choked, realizing the conversation was going nowhere and felt a bit awkward.

After a moment of silence, Ah Nuan, perhaps realizing her tone had been a bit harsh, took a breath and said, "I came here to escape famine. On the way, my family members either died or were scattered..."

Upon hearing this, Zhao Wanzi felt quite sorry for him.

Since they weren't that far apart in age, the two kids got along quite well.

As they talked, the conversation inevitably turned to the topic of reading.

Zhao Wanzi initially thought there wouldn't be much to talk about, but after exchanging a few words, she realized that this Anuan was somewhat different from the one she remembered.

Well... how should I put it? She just felt that this Ah Nuan didn't seem to be from an ordinary family, after all, who could afford to go to school these days?

The two chatted for a while longer before Cheng Ying returned with breakfast from the shop.

The breakfast at the shop was rather greasy, so Cheng Ying specifically chose some lighter options.

Each person received a serving of savory tofu pudding and two steamed buns, the buns being filled with shiitake mushrooms and greens.

With He Tiantian not home, Zhao Wanzi learned to be lazy. She was even too lazy to get out of bed, and ate her breakfast sitting on the bed.

She insists on staying in bed until the blankets are completely cold before she's willing to get up.

Cheng Ying held up breakfast, intending to feed it to A Nuan in bed, but A Nuan shook her head.

"Auntie, I can do it myself."

As she spoke, A-Nuan struggled to get up. Cheng Ying quickly stepped forward to help, settling A-Nuan down on the bed.

She held the warm soy milk pudding and fed it to Anuan with a spoon.

Ah Nuan didn't refuse and ate a lot of it, bite by bite.

This was the second full meal she had eaten in a long time. Ah Nuan was overwhelmed with emotions and didn't know what to say for a moment.

She lowered her gaze to Cheng Ying's hand, staring at it absentmindedly.

It wasn't until after she finished her breakfast that Ah Nuan felt a bit of strength returning to her body.

After resting for almost two days, Ah Nuan felt much better.

Everyone was kind to the adopted child, partly because they felt sorry for her, and partly because they thought Ah Nuan was cute and lovable.
