Early on, it's about family matters, and later it becomes about the daily life of farming and living in the mountains. The space isn't that large; it can only store supplies, grow vegetable...
"My clothes! My clothes!"
"Sigh! Forget about the clothes, get the people out of here first!"
This caused an uproar; several women panicked, some jumping into the water to rescue people, others into the water to retrieve clothes.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Lin, who had managed to slip through the commotion, quickened his pace, deciding to distance himself further from the group of women.
Reaching the shallows, Lin Momo spotted a large, relatively flat rock near the water. She thought it would be quite fun to scrub clothes on it, so she sat down on a slightly higher rock nearby.
Working with her hair down was inconvenient, so Lin Momo pulled her long hair back to check. Good, it was almost dry. She then took out a pair of scissors from the wooden basin and said to Lin Sanya, who was squatting beside her:
"Come on, let your second sister fix your hair."
The two sisters looked malnourished, and their hair wasn't much better—dry, yellow, and split. Why did they keep it so long?
Her hair was almost waist-length.
"Crack! Crack!"
Upon hearing that she was going to get a haircut, Lin Sanya didn't make a fuss. She obediently sat with her back to Lin Momo, letting her second sister do as she pleased.
"Your hair is too long, it's inconvenient to comb and wash. Second Sister will cut it shorter for you, and you can help Second Sister cut it later." Lin Momo said to Lin Sanya while cutting her hair.
She didn't mean to be unconventional; she simply felt that long hair was difficult to manage and competed with her body for nutrients, so trimming it would make her feel more refreshed.
After the haircut, the little girl's hair just reached her shoulders, and the two buns tied on the round back of her head made her look especially cute.
After looking at it, Lin smiled smugly at her younger sister and said, "Go look at your reflection in the water, isn't it pretty?"
Lin Sanya smiled shyly, reached out and touched it, then went to the water's edge to look at her reflection again. Turning to her second sister, she smiled happily and said, "It looks beautiful! Second sister, you did a really beautiful job. Can you do my hair again next time?"
"Okay!" Lin Momo smiled and readily agreed.
Then, she pulled a lock of hair from behind her, cut it off herself, and picked up another lock.
Lin Sanya hurriedly called out, "I'll cut your hair for Second Sister!"
Lin Momo planned to put her hair up in a bun, so she cut it a little longer than her younger sister's. After the haircut, she felt refreshed and her head felt much lighter.
"Second sister is pretty too, even prettier than Sanya!" Lin Sanya said with a grin as she looked at Lin Momo with her hair styled in a bun.
After tidying up the hair that the two had cut off and putting it aside, Lin Momo planned to bury it after she finished washing the clothes.
Sitting back down at the chosen washing stone, she reminded the little girl who was still admiring herself, "Alright, let's hurry up and wash the clothes, then we need to get back and dry them quickly."
"Okay," Lin Sanya replied obediently.
Then, she quickly stepped over the stones, sat opposite her second sister, grabbed one of her little clothes, and threw it into the water.
Lin Momo took out the soapberry, crushed it on a stone, put the powder into a large wooden basin soaking the quilt, and let Lin Sanya kick off her shoes and go in to play with it.
Lin Erya lifted up her trouser leg, her little feet happily stomping on the quilt, playing with great joy: "Second Sister, this is so much fun! You can even wash clothes like this!"
Lin Momo replied in a good mood, "Of course."
Back when she used to hand-wash clothes, she liked to stomp on them like this, which would splash water everywhere.
“Yes, if you stomp on them like this, the clothes will get clean. But be careful not to fall.” Lin Momo rubbed the clothes in her hands, looked up, and smiled at the little girl.
At this moment, the eight-year-old girl finally showed some of the innocence and carefree nature that a child should have.
*
at night.
In the pitch-black darkness, Lin Momo lay in the clean, sun-scented bed, instinctively reaching for the little gourd on her body, only to find nothing.
She then remembered that she had transmigrated to another world, and the jade gourd had not come with her.
However, the next moment, a white light flashed before his eyes, and he found himself in another place.
A place she was quite familiar with.
Lin Momo's heart raced with excitement, her eyes filled with tears, but a happy and bright smile graced her face.
Could it be that she has traveled back in time again?
No! She must be asleep, dreaming of returning to her old home in the countryside.
Lin Momo originally planned to stay here for a while after returning from her trip to clear her mind, but she died in a foreign land and could not fulfill her wish.
I never expected to return to this place in my dream.
wrong!
I don't think she's so confused about the difference between dreams and reality. She must have thought of her jade gourd and that's why she suddenly came here.
One moment my mind is perfectly clear, the next I'm falling asleep in an instant.
The only plausible explanation is that this is a small space that looks a lot like the courtyard in her hometown.
Could it be that her chance to transmigrate to another world, and this very space, were all thanks to that ordinary jade gourd?
I often hear older people say that jade can protect people from disasters.
The jade gourd that had been with her for many years, though it couldn't save her life, did carry her soul to another world for rebirth, which was equivalent to saving her life.
They even gave us extra space as compensation, that's really generous!
Lin Momo decided that when she made money in the future, she would buy an identical little gourd, so that it would still be by her side.
After the initial excitement subsided, Lin Momo finally noticed the difference.
This also confirmed my suspicions once again.
She wasn't dreaming.
This isn't her old farmhouse either.
This is just a farmhouse courtyard that looks a lot like her family's courtyard, but it's much larger, with five rooms.
Lin Momo was standing at the entrance of the two-story building.
At a glance, you can see that the vegetable gardens on both sides of the cement path in the front yard are empty in the fertile and moist black soil.
Forget about vegetables, not even a single blade of grass has grown.
However, this soil is much more fertile than the soil in her small yard.
The persimmon tree under the courtyard wall at the gate, which should have been laden with fruit by now, was nowhere to be seen. The fruit from that tree was crisp and sweet; she could eat several in one go.
Unfortunately, she will never be able to eat it again.
I went inside and took a look.
Ouch!
The inside was just as empty as the outside; the space was much more spacious, but the house was bare.
Without a doubt, the second floor and basement were probably the same. Finally, when I went to the backyard, it was just like the front yard. The cultivated vegetable garden only had soil and no plants, and the area was also much larger.
The woodshed, which was originally built with old bricks and tiles next to the backyard wall, and the outhouse in the corner, have now been moved back a distance.
Lin Momo couldn't help but laugh. Could it be that they had expanded all the area outside the courtyard wall that belonged to her family into the courtyard wall?
This space is really generous!
It's all empty everywhere. It would be even better if we could give her a chance to go back and restock.
Immediately, Lin Momo shook her head and chuckled, extinguishing this unrealistic idea.
With enough space, what more could you want?
The water and electricity pipes inside the house looked as if they had been removed, but the well in the front yard was still there.
This well is quite old; it belonged to an old house. Later, that mud-brick house became a dangerous building during a summer rainstorm and was honorably retired.
Only then was a two-story villa built on the original site, and running water was installed.
