Chapter 35 The Cold-Hearted General 4

After Grandpa Wang drove away in his carriage, Yan Siming asked Ali, "Do you want to leave here?"

Why leave?

Ah Li looked at Yan Siming with a puzzled expression.

Yan Siming said, "It's a bit lonely with just the two of us in the mountains. If we move to the village, it will be more lively, and we can get help from others if anything happens."

It mainly refers to what the two hunters just said.

Yan Siming would sometimes go into the village with Ali to exchange for prey, but not everyone had ever seen him.

And then there's... after he returns to the military camp, Ah Li will be all alone in the deep mountains. I wonder if she'll be bullied by the hunters who come into the mountains.

When she's all alone, won't she be left helpless and desperate?

Yan Siming fell silent upon thinking about this.

Ali, on the other hand, didn't care. She said, "You can decide what to do. If you feel it's too deserted, we'll move to the village."

Yan Siming nodded and agreed.

Then the two of them took their things back and tidied up their old place, putting away the things they had bought recently.

The next day, Yan Siming took Ali to see Grandpa Wang.

Yan Siming said, "Grandpa Wang, I want to buy a house in the village, and then Ali and I can live together in the village."

Seeing that Yan Siming was very serious and that Ali was also obedient, Grandpa Wang said, "Have you thought it through? The people in the village are not like those in the mountains. There are more people here, and they also talk a lot more."

Yan Siming said, "I've thought it over, but I'll have to trouble Grandpa Wang for help."

Grandpa Wang didn't refuse much and led the two men to find the village chief.

With Grandpa Wang as guarantor and Ah Li, that silly girl, there, the village chief quickly led them to the yamen to register.

After registering, Yan Siming and Ali received a plot of land and a house to stay in.

Yan Siming did not show up; instead, he registered Ali's name.

Ah Li blinked, knowing that Yan Siming was thinking of her, and she obediently cooperated.

The house allocated to the two of them was vacant and located on the edge of the village.

So, it wasn't until the village chief led the people there and they stayed in that house for several days that anyone found out someone else had moved in, and it was a man.

The man not only possessed a strong and powerful physique, but also had a handsome and elegant demeanor. Most importantly, he was accompanied by a simple-minded girl.

The villagers also noticed that the silly girl had recently become increasingly beautiful.

So, every time Ah Li went in and out, she noticed that some of the older women in the village were always staring at her, saying that she was lucky because she had brought back a good man who had given her a house and land.

Ah Li saw that they didn't dance in front of her, so she let them go.

On this day, Ah Li was cooking when he heard a commotion outside, along with a woman screaming and shouts of fighting.

Just as Ahri was about to open the door to go out and see, the door was pushed open and then closed again.

Yan Siming entered, panting heavily, clearly having rushed in.

Yan Siming tried to calm his breathing, then looked at Ah Li carefully with his eyes. After a while, he breathed a sigh of relief and said, "It's good that you're alright."

Ah Li quickly asked, "What happened? Why are you so anxious? Go and get some water."

As Ahri spoke, she came to the table and poured him a glass of water.

After taking a sip of water, Yan Siming thought about what was happening in the village and said, "Ali, no matter what happens later, don't go out. Bandits have invaded the village."

Ah Li quickly grabbed Yan Siming's arm, "Bandits? Is Grandpa Wang alright?"

Yan Siming shook his head and said, "Grandpa Wang is fine. He and the village chief went to the yamen to report to the authorities."

Just now, when Yan Siming was hunting in the mountains with several hunters from the village, someone suddenly ran over and said that bandits had broken into the village, indiscriminately injuring people and forcibly taking women from the village.

Upon hearing this, the hunters grabbed their weapons and rushed towards the village in a swarm.

Yan Siming was worried about Ali, so he took a shortcut back first.

"Can the villagers defeat those bandits?" Ah Li looked out the window with some worry.

Yan Siming stood up, thought for a moment, and said, "I'll go check on you. You need to hide well."

"Okay." Ah Li nodded firmly, gripping a wooden stick tightly in her hand.

Upon seeing this, Yan Siming opened the door, went out, and locked the door from the outside.

Ahri heard the noise and looked at the unlocked window.

After Yan Siming left, Ali climbed out the window, left the house, and followed Yan Siming into the village.

Ah Li was thinking: she wasn't some helpless fool; she could also lend a hand. But Yan Siming had been so focused on protecting her that she didn't want to show off in front of him.

Along the way, Yan Siming encountered several bandits. He seized their weapons and fought his way through them.

Ahri followed behind, and seeing his ease, she finished him off with a fatal blow.

Speaking of these mountain bandits, they are like cunning foxes, sneaking into villages without warning each time, and showing no mercy to the elderly, women and children.

These bandits were more ferocious than wolves and more venomous than snakes.

They swept in like a storm and disappeared into the night like ghosts, leaving no room for defense.

As Yan Siming fought, he realized something was wrong. These people were not just simple bandits, but enemy troops from the border.

Although they wore tattered bandit clothes, their moves were ruthless and familiar.

Yan Siming opened his mouth and said something that wasn't in his native language, but in the language of an enemy country: "Who sent you?"
