One year brought a great drought, the next year floods, and then, in a blink, a plague.
The Xu family fled from the north to the south, and then from the south back to the north.
Before...
Xu Ning threw a sack of water celery into the space, and then took the sack and cut a sack before stopping.
After she had a good time cutting celery, she started walking towards an area where there was a dense patch of Amaranthus.
The water spinach should have not been eaten by those animals, as many elders had eaten it. Fortunately, it was the season to eat water spinach, so Xu Ning picked and chose and filled a sack.
Further ahead, it should be a place where animals rested. There was a lot of feces left behind, and the horsetails were numerous and thick.
Smelling the unique smell in the air, Xu Ning should have frowned, but he remembered the sour taste of purslane and couldn't help swallowing.
Purslane is a good thing. It not only has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, but it is also delicious when boiled, stir-fried, or made into soup, and it goes well with rice.
Xu Ning looked at his hands and feet, and decisively changed into rubber shoes and rubber gloves. He put away the sack, put on a mask, and changed into a large plastic bucket.
Then, Xu Ning stepped on the soft soil. She held the tail of the purslane in one hand wearing a rubber glove and cut it off at the root with a sickle in the other hand.
The purslane was growing really well. Xu Ning cut seven or eight of them and could hardly hold them all with one hand!
Xu Ning threw the cut crops into the bucket, then bent down and continued cutting until the bucket was full. Xu Ning stood up with his wrists supporting his waist, only to find that the sun had slipped down from the top of the mountain, leaving only a little glowing tail.
There was no gorgeous sunset today, and there were few clouds. It looked like it would be dark soon, so Xu Ning stopped picking the fruits and walked towards the stream carrying a heavy bucket of purslane.
Xu Ning did not take off his gloves, but continued to wear them to wash the surface of the gloves, the sickle and the rubber shoes. He threw the sickle back into the space and continued to wash the purslane with the gloves on.
Purslane is easy to clean. Just grab a handful and rinse it in a place with fast-flowing water, and the dirt on the surface will be washed away.
Xu Ning didn't cut those with feces on the surface, no matter how good they looked. She picked the cleaner ones.
Soon, a large bucket of purslane was washed. Xu Ning rinsed the bucket and planned to fill it with water and put it back into the space.
The bucket was quite deep, so Xu Ning walked forward. There was a small step in front of it, where she could directly catch the running water, saving her the trouble of using anything to scoop it out.
Xu Ning put the bucket away, stood up and looked around. She found shepherd's purse growing on a small hillock, but it looked very old and she had to pinch the core in the middle to eat it.
It was already getting dark, and Xu Ning was too lazy to do anything else.
The bucket was full, and Xu Ning put the bucket of water directly into the space. He was about to return to the RV when he suddenly felt something crawling on his rubber shoes.
It was dark on the ground and a black shadow could be vaguely seen. Xu Ning immediately took out a flashlight, which was a strong one. As soon as Xu Ning turned it on, she could see clearly what was stepping on her foot.
It's a big mountain crab.
The light from Xu Ning's flashlight scared it, and it was now holding up its two big pincers to welcome Xu Ning.
"Hey, little thing, you walk really sideways."
Xu Ning took a branch out of the water and poked it. It immediately clamped it with its two pincers, and Xu Ning easily hung it in the air.
"If you don't let go, you'll fall to your death." Xu Ning shook the crab, but it didn't move at all.
"Very good, you have successfully caught my attention, then come with me, you have a place at tonight's midnight snack."
Xu Ning held the branch and walked towards the RV without caring whether it would fall or not.
Back in the RV, Xu Ning bent the sides of the branch that the crab's claws were holding, threw it into the sink and left it alone.
Xu Ning was hungry, so she cooked the rice first, took out a handful of water celery, washed it and cut it into sections, and then took out a handful of purslane.
Tonight she planned to eat scrambled duck eggs with water celery and purslane.
Just eat it when you want to. She took out two wild duck eggs and cracked them into the bowl. She threw the eggshells into the sink. In it, there was a crab and some water celery leaves that Xu Ning had picked and didn't want.
Xu Ning turned on the range hood first, then turned on the induction cooker. After putting the pot on, he turned on the highest heat. It didn't take long for it to be hot enough, so he poured the oil in.
Add the egg liquid to the hot oil and fry until both sides are golden brown, then put it aside. Use the remaining oil in the pan to stir-fry the water celery. When the water celery is almost done, pour the fried wild duck eggs back into the pan. Finally, season and stir twice and you're done!
Xu Ning scooped up a piece of fried egg with a spatula and took a bite. She was immediately intoxicated by the fragrance. Then she ate two stalks of water celery. They were crisp and refreshing. Xu Ning was very satisfied.
The purslane was fried in less than two minutes. Xu Ning brushed the pot and the rice was ready at this time.
Xu Ning opened the lid of the rice cooker to let the steam out, and then brought the two fried dishes to the dining table.
"It's a bit hot." Xu Ning opened the window, and immediately a cool breeze blew in, and the heat dissipated.
The pot was still very hot. Xu Ning took out a pair of chopsticks, reached to both sides of the top of the pot, picked up the pot with the help of balance, and quickly placed it on the dining table.
"Huh~ Another day without having to wash dishes!" Although Xu Ning didn't have to wash them, she felt that she could put one less bowl in the dishwasher, which would save her effort.
"Player, you are really too lazy."
"Who said that! I cook for myself! Apart from rice, which dish wasn't made with my hard work? I'm lazy? That's totally unreasonable!"
Xu Ning was arguing in his mind, but he kept eating rice and vegetables with great satisfaction.
Seeing that Baibaoxiang said something to her and then kept silent, she didn't care. What mattered was that she had a full stomach.
It was completely dark outside when Xu Ning was cooking. After finishing his meal, Xu Ning threw the dishes into the dishwasher, then got out of the RV carrying a bucket and a flashlight.
The valley was extremely lively at this time. Xu Ning shone his flashlight and saw several pairs of red and green eyes.
