Chapter 165: Extra Chapter Eleven: Gentleness
The quiet office, where you could hear a pin drop, was suddenly shattered by the ringing of a cell phone.
Lin Jin was intently staring at the candlestick chart on the screen when the buzzing vibration coming from the table distracted him, and his brows gradually furrowed.
She glanced at the phone on the coffee table, thinking that Cheng Sangluo had almost no circle of friends and usually didn't even receive a spam call. But today, it was unusually ringing non-stop. So she turned to look at the person who was standing obediently as punishment, her lips tightly pressed together, not saying a word, but her gaze was full of suspicion.
Cheng Sangluo didn't dare to move because he hadn't received his wife's order. After hesitating for a long time without the calls stopping, he cautiously asked, "Can I answer the phone?"
Lin Jin didn't agree immediately, but instead beckoned with her finger and ordered, "Bring me the phone."
After receiving permission, Cheng Sangluo quickly ran to get her phone. When she saw the caller ID, her heart skipped a beat. She then looked timidly at her lover who had been staring at her.
Lin Jin immediately sensed that the dog was up to something, so she leaned back lazily and asked, "Who called?"
"Uh...yes..." Cheng Sangluo fumbled in his pocket, stammering for a long time without being able to say a word. Seeing the cold light flashing in his wife's eyes, he had no choice but to answer truthfully, "It's Shu Wan."
Upon hearing the name of the person he disliked the most, Lin Jin's expression remained unchanged, and he didn't even immediately speak sarcastically.
She picked up her coffee, took a small sip, savored the bitter taste, and commanded, "Put it on, turn on speakerphone."
"This..." Cheng Sangluo hesitated, but he couldn't resist his wife's murderous gaze, so he had no choice but to obediently do as she said.
She held her breath and answered the call. As she pressed the speakerphone button, a wave of panic washed over her, and even the palms of her hands holding the phone became slightly sweaty.
"You took forever to answer the phone, what were you doing?" Shu Wan's voice echoed in the suddenly heavy atmosphere of the room.
Cheng Sangluo shuddered at the slightly reproachful yet gentle tone in the voice. His gaze toward his wife became pitiful and innocent, as if he had suddenly lost his tongue. After a long pause, he asked, "Miss Shu, is there something you need that you suddenly contacted me about?"
"It's been a while since we last contacted each other, I just missed you~" Shu Wan made an ambiguous greeting, then invited with a light smile: "I've been thinking about it, and although the investment plan hasn't been approved yet, it's not like we can't talk about it. Are you free tonight? Let's have dinner together and chat slowly."
Upon hearing that sweet "I miss you," Lin Jin let out a soft sneer. Her usually composed face finally contorted with immense hatred, and her gaze towards Cheng Sangluo was more than just murderous; she seemed to want to skin the person on the other end of the phone.
Cheng Sangluo withstood her sharp, piercing gaze and politely declined, saying, "I'm sorry, I have plans for today."
Shu Wan was not deterred from meeting him by the rejection and changed her mind, saying, "It's okay, just tell me a time and I'll postpone my schedule."
While the two were exchanging pleasantries on the phone, Lin Jin took something out of the drawer, then got up and walked over to Cheng Sangluo.
She pressed her lips to the puppy's ear and hissed, "Keep talking, don't hang up."
Cheng Sangluo had no idea what this woman was up to, so he could only laugh it off and reply, "I've been quite busy lately, so I might not be able to find the time right now. Sorry."
"Really?" Shu Wan gave a light laugh and casually started gossiping: "Shi Nian has already told me about you and Lin Jin. Getting back together is great news, congratulations!"
"Yes, we've made up." Cheng Sangluo gave a dry laugh and quickly explained, "It's almost the end of the year, and she has a lot of work at her company. She also needs to find time to have foot surgery, so I have to stay with her and take care of her. Therefore, the investment will have to be put on hold for a while."
“That’s true. Which boss isn’t working non-stop at the end of the year?” Shu Wan’s tone remained largely unchanged, and the conversation stayed within the bounds of what was expected. She then asked curiously, “You haven’t been telling her about our collaboration, have you…?”
"Not yet..." Cheng Sangluo was about to answer when a sharp pain suddenly shot through her waist. She caught her breath before speaking, "I haven't had a chance to talk to her yet, but I'll find some time to chat with her and ask her to teach me."
Lin Jin couldn't stand Cheng Sangluo's polite yet humble attitude towards Shu Wan, and she was also secretly angry that this person was hiding something, so she simply pinched her waist hard to vent her dissatisfaction.
Cheng Sangluo squinted in pain, then suddenly felt a strange, ticklish sensation on the rabbit's nose, causing her to instinctively straighten her body.
As the tingling, itchy sensation spread through her body, her back twitched instinctively a few times, and she hurriedly stifled the sigh that was choking her throat.
She opened her eyes wide in surprise, nodding to look at her lover entwined beneath her clothes. The kissing and nibbling gesture seemed contradictory, a mix of displeasure and teasing, as if he were expressing a sour possessiveness, or silently declaring who the rightful owner was.
Cheng Sangluo was stunned by this sudden initiative. Grasping her last bit of reason, she grabbed the hem of her coat and used it to cover the crouching figure.
Lin Jin peered through the small gap in the collar, sizing up the puppy's face. She deliberately pressed her lips harder, making a few loud smacking sounds.
Cheng Sangluo could no longer hear what Shu Wan was saying. Her gaze was fixed intently on her lover, who was kissing her wantonly. She simply pulled him down onto the sofa, lovingly stroking his soft, long curly hair with her broad palms. She couldn't help but lift a strand and put it on her lips to alleviate the pale feeling of not being able to kiss him for the time being.
Lin Jin was skilled at using her lips to evoke her lover's emotions, but at this moment she seemed a bit awkward, and because of her dissatisfaction, her kiss was clumsy and reckless.
She was angry that Cheng Sangluo hadn't told her what happened after she ran away from home, and even angrier that Shu Wan had been involved in those blank days.
But tenderness comes from instinct, so that wet, soft tongue once again expressed tenderness at this moment.
It swept across the little rabbit's upturned nose, and then diligently outlined the ribs clearly, down to the individual ribs.
Clearly, this untimely interaction was deliberately orchestrated by Lin Jin.
She deliberately harassed her lover at this moment, making smacking sounds between her lips and teeth, hoping that the person on the other end of the phone would notice something amiss and back down.
Cheng Sangluo wrapped her coat tighter, not daring to look at that alluring and beautiful face. She could only raise her hand to cover half of her face, awkwardly hiding the blush that filled her cheeks.
Although Lin Jin didn't know what business the two were discussing, he got the gist of it. It seemed that the cooperation was stuck on the plan, so he stopped being curious about the conversation. He even used a single action to completely kill the person on the phone's interest in chatting.
She slapped the other person across the face with the small box she had just taken out of the drawer, whispering, "If you don't hang up within three sentences, you'll face the consequences."
Cheng Sangluo could tell that the warning tone was not a joke. He grabbed whatever his wife had thrown at him and when he saw that it was a box of brand new finger cots, his heart pounded rapidly.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Shu, I have something to take care of. Let's talk again another time." She ended the conversation hastily and hung up the phone before Shu Wan could even speak.
Lin Jin had no time to be affectionate with the puppy in front of her. Seeing the phone call end, she decisively got up and left without even saying a word.
"Don't go!" Cheng Sangluo grabbed her arm just in time and raised her voice to promise, "Please don't be angry. I can explain this properly. I'll tell you the whole story, and I won't hide anything or make anything up!"
Lin Jin impatiently shook off her arm, walked straight to the boss's chair and sat down. He stared at the anxious little dog from half the office distance away, and only uttered one word: "Speak."
Cheng Sangluo is a real scoundrel. Before explaining, he didn't forget to put the finger cot box into his pocket before getting up and walking to Lin Jin.
She crouched down, rested her head on her lover's knee, and looked just like a pet dog afraid of being abandoned, only lacking the whimpering and whining to gain sympathy.
Lin Jin wanted to push the person away, but couldn't resist the pitiful little expression, so she had to take a deep breath and say coldly, "Stand still while you speak."
Cheng Sangluo didn't listen to her this time. She stayed on her knees, drooping her head, and said slowly, "I've lived half my life and suffered all kinds of hardships. I don't want to keep going hungry, nor do I want to keep relying on you to enjoy a superior material life. I'm even more afraid of losing my freedom."
Stripping away the superficial flaws, you've always been like the moon hanging in the sky in my eyes. To truly appreciate you, I must forever look up to you.
I'm so poor, so poor I only have one life left, so poor I can't afford to give you a beautiful diamond ring, so I want to make myself better, I have to find a way out for myself.
After running away from home, I came up with a really good project, so I contacted Shu Wan, who was also an investor.
I wanted to open a chain of fresh food supermarkets outside various residential communities in Zhouhai. I told her about this idea, and she agreed but needed a more attractive plan.
However, I don't know how to write a plan, or even how to conduct an investigation and evaluation, so this matter is stuck at the planning stage.
No one wants to achieve anything, but at least I hope that when I look up to you, I don't have to hold my head so high.
I didn't mean to keep it from you, it's just that we just made up, and I didn't dare mention her, afraid you'd get angry.
Lin Jin stared expressionlessly at the aggrieved puppy, but her heart had already been moved by the words of gazing at the moon.
How could one not be moved, how could one not feel sorry for her? Perhaps in other people's eyes, Cheng Sangluo is ordinary, even hard to spot in a crowd.
Yet this is the kind of person who has worked diligently for half her life, but also endured hardships that others could hardly bear. Even though life was unfair to her time and time again, she still lived a pure and kind life, without complaining or blaming others, and simply supported herself through hard work.
Lin Jin put aside her jealousy and gently stroked her lover's face, asking softly, "When you had such thoughts, why didn't you tell me right away that I'm also an excellent investor?"
I'm angry not just because you went to see Shu Wan, but because I wish you would tell me when you need help. I am your wife, your bedmate.
Life is long, so let's not hide the bad news from each other. Now that we've entered into marriage, we should share both the joys and the sorrows, shouldn't we?
Cheng Sangluo closed his eyes, stammering as he pressed his palm against his wife's: "I want to truly rely on myself this time, and I also want to contribute to our family, so... I'm sorry... I didn't consider your feelings..."
Lin Jin gently stroked her ear and coaxed her tenderly, "We can discuss business matters in the long run. If you really want to start a new life, why not start by making up for your first regret?"
Cheng Sangluo knelt down on the ground in confusion, and asked stupidly, "Regret?"
“I can see your childhood dream in your idea of opening a supermarket. You once said that when you grew up, you wanted to open a small shop at the entrance of the village, with an endless supply of instant noodles and the option to add a couple more sausages, right?” Lin Jin recalled the little dog’s life aspirations from long ago and couldn’t help but smile as she continued to plan: “Go to school, Cheng Sangluo. I hope that one summer, you can hold my hand and stroll under the sycamore trees on the university campus. Perhaps this path is more suitable for you than doing business.”
Lin Jin has always been guiding Cheng Sangluo, from initially teaching her lesson after lesson when she was not understood, to now gently explaining how to proceed on the road ahead.
A good partner won't care how capable you are, but they will definitely care about what you want most, and support you in pursuing the right path in life.
