"My daughter didn't notice," Kunxing replied. She hadn't really looked at anything else; she just thought the cake was so beautiful she couldn't bear to eat it.
"Princess Tian, can you have dinner?" asked Queen Zhou.
"Your Majesty, it has not been used yet!" said Concubine Tian.
"You and Kunxing must eat all the food, no leftovers!" After saying that, Queen Zhou stood up and left.
Kunxing and Concubine Tian were both bewildered. What on earth did Empress Zhou mean? Why was she so displeased by this food called cake?
After Empress Zhou left, Concubine Tian walked over and took a closer look before she saw the small words underneath. Kunxing asked a little aggrievedly, "Why can't I keep it?" She really loved the cake. Even if it went bad and she couldn't eat it, she would still look after it.
Concubine Tian said, "This Prince Consort Zhao is just as the Empress said. He doesn't understand the rules of the Ming Dynasty. How can there be a statue of Wu Zetian in the harem?"
Kunxing finally saw the small print after being reminded. She knew her husband's country was a place where men and women served in the same palace, so she couldn't blame him. She had no choice but to endure the pain and eat the cake with Concubine Tian. While it tasted good, Kunxing couldn't appreciate the flavor. Concubine Tian was fine, though, and kept praising Kunxing for her good fortune to marry such a good husband.
After eating, she chatted with Kunxing for a few words and then returned to her room, leaving Princess Kunxing there alone and sad. For the first time, Zhu Mianzhu wanted to get married and leave.
Now the name of Zhao Xiaofei's house has been changed to Prince Consort's Mansion. He was currently holding Li Sihong in bed and complaining! He rested his head on Li Sihong's legs and said, "You said this princess is just a child! What is the emperor thinking? Is his daughter still unable to get married?"
Li Sihong sighed and said, "It's really hard for a princess of the Ming Dynasty to get married, and even if she does, she may not marry into a good family."
"It seems so! But why did they choose me? I just can't understand it!" said Zhao Xiaofei.
"It's you who's giving random things to others! Who would give a mirror to a girl?" said Li Sihong.
"This is bad luck! Forget it. I have asked for leave from the Ministry of Rites and I will be away for a few days. I will be back in about 7 days." Zhao Xiaofei said.
"Husband! Come back early. Remember you are not alone anymore. You have me and the princess. I'll be waiting for you at home." Li Sihong said.
"I know! But let's not mention the princess when we are together! It's such a spoiler!" said Zhao Xiaofei.
"Isn't the princess beautiful?" Li Sihong asked.
"She looks okay now! I wonder what she'll look like when she grows up?" Zhao Xiaofei said. What a straight man! If an expert were to say this, he'd probably say, "How can the princess's beauty compare to yours?" Perhaps because it was the Ming Dynasty, he didn't need to think too much.
"There are basically no ugly princesses in the Ming Dynasty. Your husband said that because he doesn't have her in his heart. Next time you look at the princess carefully, you will definitely see her beauty." Li Sihong said.
Huh? What's going on? Zhao Xiaofei was confused. He asked, "How can you push your man away? I don't understand."
"The Ming Dynasty had seven grounds for divorce. If a woman was jealous, she would be kicked out of the house," said Li Sihong.
"I seem to have heard of it! But doesn't it hurt your heart if I marry the princess?" Zhao Xiaofei asked.
"It hurts! But what can I do? I can only face it, I can't change it," said Li Sihong.
"I don't want to make you heartbroken. I just want you to be happy. Every time I see you, I only want to see you happy!" Zhao Xiaofei said and reached out to touch Li Sihong's face.
"I am luckier than other women because I met you. As long as I have you, no matter if there will be other women around you in the future, I will be happy just by looking at you." After saying this, Li Sihong took the initiative to kiss Zhao Xiaofei.
The next day, Zhao Xiaofei was still enjoying the gentle warmth of his wife when Xiao Si came over early and called out, "Master! Someone from the Duke of Cheng's residence is here to congratulate the Prince Consort! They're here to give him gifts! There are also many people from noble families lining up behind him!" Xiao Si was told by Zhao Xiaofei not to call him Prince Consort in front of Li Sihong, lest she feel uncomfortable.
"Let them put down the gifts and leave. I will come to thank you later! Go!" Zhao Xiaofei said impatiently.
"Yes, young master!" Xiao Si said.
But after a while, Xiao Si came again. He shouted outside the door: "Master! Someone is coming from the palace! The emperor is summoning you!"
Zhao Xiaofei thought, is this the end? Didn't we just meet yesterday? He asked angrily, "Who's here in the palace?"
"It's Eunuch Wang Chengen!" Xiao Si said.
When Zhao Xiaofei heard it was Wang Chengen, he had to climb out of Li Sihong's arms, saying unhappily, "He always comes at the right time! Tell him I'll be there soon!"
Zhao Xiaofei looked at the beauty beneath him and said, "With her cloud-like hair, flowery face, and golden step-shaking ornaments, the hibiscus tent is warm for the spring night. The spring night is short and the sun rises high. From now on, the king will no longer hold court early. My lady! You are my hero's tomb!"
"Husband! Don't make random comparisons! Your wife will change your clothes for you!" Li Sihong said in a coquettish tone and stood up to help Zhao Xiaofei put on his clothes.
After changing his clothes and walking a few steps out of the door, Zhao Xiaofei held his waist and muttered about the pain. Li Sihong looked at him and felt funny, and quickly covered her mouth.
"Don't laugh! Isn't your husband doing this for you so that he can leave a descendant for your Li family as soon as possible? If you laugh again, I will punish you according to the family rules when I come back!" Zhao Xiaofei did not forget to make fun of Li Sihong as he walked away.
Arriving at the front hall, Wang Chengen looked at Zhao Xiaofei who hurried in and said, "Your Highness! You're living a comfortable life! You sleep until noon every day!"
"You are making a fool of yourself, father-in-law! Chinese people tend to go to bed late and get up late, and it will take some time to change this habit. Are you here to convey the emperor's message?" Zhao Xiaofei asked.
Wang Chengen didn't believe Zhao Xiaofei's nonsense. He said, "The Emperor asked me to ask you, if a major epidemic breaks out in the capital, does the Prince Consort have any way to deal with it?"
Zhao Xiaofei asked, "Eunuch! Is the plague in the capital out of control?"
