Song Qing and Lu Yang's marriage was a muddled affair. At the beginning of that special era, fearing implication, her parents forced her to break up with her ex-boyfriend and used their connect...
It's impossible that Director Zhang's brain was completely scrambled to its head by their crying.
Unless the couple is completely stupid, they don't seem like the type to accept this loss.
Before the two of them could answer, Director Zhang quickly waved his hand, signaling them to leave.
Several members of the Women's Federation took turns trying to persuade Zhou Lian. They reasoned that if everyone could get things done by crying at the Women's Federation like she did, things would be in complete chaos.
But no matter whether Director Zhang offered kind advice or harsh criticism, Zhou Lian did not back down at all.
This is a military region, and they can't really drag her away and execute her, so what is she afraid of? Even if this gets out, she's not afraid. Why shouldn't her family get a good house?
Lu Yang and Wang Minggui are at the same level, so there are several other people at lower levels than them. If this isn't explained clearly, she'll go and cry to the highest-ranking leader.
Director Zhang spoke until his throat was dry, and he refilled his teacup again and again, but Zhou Lian's face remained resolute.
Wang Minggui tried to say something but was immediately met with a glare from Zhou Lian. Several children even separated the couple, fearing that their father would harm their mother.
"Alright, let's leave it at that for now."
The team members were also exhausted. Doing ideological work requires seeing the person gradually convinced before they can continue.
But Zhou Lian was a tough woman. She was heavily pregnant, and if you spoke too harshly, she would clutch her stomach and furrow her brow.
Since she was going to live here in the future, she couldn't afford to offend Director Zhang too much. Knowing that things were pretty much over for today, Zhou Lian immediately took her child and said goodbye.
On the way, Wang Minggui asked her with a pale face what she wanted to do.
"What do I want? I just want that house. Since you can't make it happen, I will."
"Let me tell you, Wang Minggui, it's fine if you don't support me, but if you dare to rebel here, I'll take my kids and hang ourselves on your doorstep. I'll make sure you're childless and have no one to break pots for after you."
"You're a madman, you're a madman!"
No matter what he says, Zhou Lian has figured it out: this matter might actually be resolved.
She wasn't wrong; if she had come to make a scene a month or two earlier, Director Zhang would have already firmly and explicitly rejected her.
But this matter was already in its final stages, and it seemed that the credit was about to fall on her own man. How could she allow Zhou Lian to get involved at the last minute?
Director Zhang sighed at home, and the deputy division commander was also somewhat frustrated. Even among brothers, there are degrees of closeness; once he rose to a higher position, he still had to seek benefits for the brothers who had risked their lives for him.
Therefore, the number of slots for each division was not the same, and his own subordinates occupied a significant portion of them.
Those old foxes had tacitly agreed before, after all, this job was really not easy, but the people below didn't think so, and now there are many whispering among themselves.
"Why don't you try talking to them?"
As soon as Zhou Lian returned to the house, she immediately directed the children to tidy up. Once the house was in her hands, it was impossible for it to leave.
"From now on, someone must be in the house. Don't open the door if someone you don't know knocks."
The children were also very excited; they were going to live in an apartment building too, and they all nodded in agreement.
Wang Minggui was so angry that he left before he even got downstairs. He was so ashamed that he could only secretly take the money he had saved over the years, hoping to exchange it with Lu Yang.
"This place is quite interesting." Song Qing said cryptically as she fed An An in the guesthouse.
Lu Yang remained silent; ultimately, it was because he couldn't control his mouth when he was out in public.
He awkwardly opened his lunchbox. Today's cafeteria meal consisted of cabbage and tofu, along with a dish of braised eggplant. He also went to the stir-fry window and got a serving of braised pork.
Since they weren't very familiar with each other, Song Qing didn't dare to dwell on the matter, lest she offend him.
The braised pork was translucent and coated with plenty of sauce. A spoonful was placed on rice, which made An'an's eyes widen with anticipation. She opened her mouth eagerly, waiting for Song Qing to feed her.
"Mommy, it's delicious." His little cheeks were bulging, and his words were not very clear, but Lu Yang was very happy. The cafeteria would be making braised pork again in a few days, and he would order more then.
Apart from An'an occasionally saying a few words, the other two remained silent at the dinner table. Lu Yang kept stealing glances at Song Qing's expression, instinctively sensing that she was angry, and dared not speak even more.
Song Qing didn't know what to say; today's events had certainly opened her eyes.
She only realized Lu Yang hadn't touched the braised pork when she was almost full. "We're all full, you can finish the rest."
Lu Yang quickly finished off the remaining vegetarian dishes, and then covered the half-eaten box of braised pork again. Song Qing looked at him with a puzzled expression.
"It won't spoil. You can just heat it up in hot water tonight and it'll still be edible."
Song Qing understood that these meat dishes had to be ordered separately, and meat coupons were needed. It was impossible to eat meat dishes twice a day; eating like that every day would be unbearable.
Actually, Lu Yang saw that they liked it, but the cafeteria didn't have that dish for dinner.
After lunch, she wanted An'an to take a nap, but An'an was unwilling, rolling around on the kang (a heated brick bed) and occasionally stealing glances at her expression.
"What do you think will happen next?"
Lu Yang didn't know either. Director Zhang clearly didn't want Zhou Lian to make a big deal out of this, especially since Zhou Lian was pregnant and they had moved all their things into the house. Since they couldn't get rid of them, they could only try to persuade them.
But Lu Yang wasn't stupid. There was no reason for him to give his house to someone else, especially since it was originally allocated to them.
"Unless you have two houses." But since you only have one, someone has to give it up.
However, she guessed that Director Zhang would promise to give up that house and give her another spot when the new house is built.
