Chapter 347 It's Raining

Natural disasters and man-made calamities—living always means bearing some responsibility, something that is beyond human control.

The sweltering heat persisted until the college entrance examination, without any change.

Mu Yi'an tidied up Shao Ming and Shao Ning's exam baskets, feeling genuinely worried about the two children.

In such hot weather, and with those conditions inside the examination hall, won't the children get heatstroke?

No matter how much she worries, it's no use; she can't take the exam for the children.

In life, you're bound to encounter all sorts of things; it's impossible for everything to go smoothly.

After comforting herself, Mu Yi'an sent the two children to bed, as they would be entering the examination hall tomorrow.

Fortunately, I've already consulted Dr. Chu and gotten some cooling tea bags. I'll boil them, let them cool, and drink them. Hopefully, they'll work.

Following the same procedure, Shao Ming and Shao Ning successfully entered the examination hall, while all Mu Yi'an and the others could do was wait.

Shao Ning was going to take the academy exam, so Brother Jiang and the others didn't come.

It hasn't rained for more than two months, which has made people uneasy and the roads are not very safe.

Waiting was the slowest time, and Mu Yi'an felt irritated.

It's hot, and I'm worried about the children in the examination hall; even the slightest sound will be amplified.

Chuyue took her younger brothers to class and asked them to try not to disturb their mother.

Mu Yi'an tried to control her temper, but she couldn't help it. She was already annoyed, and then her period came, which made things even more troublesome.

When Jiang Shuyun returned home in the evening, she saw her listless and irritable wife. She knew that her wife was in a bad mood during these days of the month, and with the children taking their college entrance exams in this kind of weather, she knew that was also a concern.

"Honey, the headmaster received news today that it's started raining in many places, and it'll be raining here soon too."

"Really? That's great! A lot of the sweet potatoes on the farm have survived."

If it rains, the kids can replant a crop of vegetables, at least.

It's already August, so it's basically too late to plant grains, but we can plant some vegetables.

This area is relatively good; even in the dead of winter, the temperature doesn't drop too low, remaining above freezing, and there's no ice.

However, after September or October, the temperature is no longer sufficient for grain growth.

This is the only good news in the past two months.

When the provincial examination was over, Mu Yi'an and his men waited at the entrance of the examination hall. He specially invited the child's uncle to come, just in case the child suffered from heatstroke.

When the gates of the examination hall opened, those who came out first were all carried out.

"Master and Madam, we don't have our young master; they're all a bit older."

Li Li and his men confirmed that neither of his two young masters were among them.

After they finished walking horizontally, they helped each other out.

Those who came out all had one thing in common: they looked sickly and were covered in sweat.

Shao Ming and Shao Ning came out relatively late; most people had already come out, and they were walking behind.

"Master, Madam, the eldest young master and the second young master are out."

After Jiang Mo shouted, he and Jiang Yan ran over together.

Shao Ming was in good spirits, with no other symptoms except for a slightly flushed face.

Shao Ning was a bit less skilled; his steps were unsteady, and his face was pale.

"Young Master, Young Master, Master and Madam are waiting outside, and Uncle is also here."

Jiang Mo and Jiang Yan helped Shao Ning off his young master.

"Well, get in the car quickly, let your uncle take a look."

"Mother, I'm fine. Shen Ning has a bit of heatstroke. She went to the restroom before we came out."

Doctor Chu took the pulses of the two children. Shao Ming was fine, but Shao Ning had suffered from heatstroke.

"You all go back first. I'll go back to get the medicine and have someone go with me to bring it back and decoct it."

Shao Ning will take the medicine for a few days, while Shao Ming will not need to take any. He should pay attention to his diet during these days, eating light meals and avoiding meat, fish, and seafood.

Second brother and sister-in-law, the imperial examination has just ended, the clinic will be very busy, I'm going back to get the medicine now.

"Go back. I'll have Jiang Mo go with you to get the medicine, so you don't need to come over."

After Mu Yi'an finished making the arrangements, the group returned home.

The house had already heated water, so I let the two kids take a bath first; they all smelled sour.

After taking a bath, drinking some vegetable porridge, and taking their medicine, the two children went to sleep.

After resting at home for a few days, Shao Ning felt the summer heat dissipate and he felt more energetic.

Shao Ming hasn't been reading these past few days; the heat is unbearable.

Mu Yi'an looked at the sky, wondering when the rain would come.

Perhaps because they had been nagged so much, Mu Yi'an and the others were just getting ready to go to sleep that night.

A few sharp claps of thunder startled her.

"It's thundering, it's going to rain."

Mu Yi'an suddenly sat up. She asked Jiang Shuyun to go out and check on the two children, while she went to Chuyue's room herself.

"Mother, is it thundering?"

Chuyue was a little scared, but she felt at ease when she saw her mother come in.

"Hmm, it's thundering, it might rain. Do you want to go to your parents' room? We don't know if it will thunder again later."

No sooner had Mu Yi'an finished speaking than thunder and lightning struck, and they all arrived.

"I went to my parents' room, but I was scared."

Chuyue slept alone, while a maidservant kept watch in the outer room at night; they did not sleep in the same room.

After all that commotion, the yard lights came on, and the children all came over.

"Shao Ming, let your father sleep with you on the couch in the outer room, and I will sleep inside with Chu Yue and my two younger brothers."

"It's alright, it's going to rain, the thunder is a bit loud."

Jiang Shuyun slept in the outer room with the three adults, while Mu Yi'an took the three children to the inner room.

The children were terrified, as it was the first time they had ever experienced such loud thunder.

Now, I feel at ease being with my parents.

There are people on night duty in the courtyard; they'll call out if anything happens.

Everyone lay down. The thunder grew louder and closer, accompanied by lightning, which felt like it was exploding right above their heads.
