Lu Ning walked in the fog for two thousand years. When he emerged, he found the world seemed to be sick.
The sun grew tentacles, the planets were covered in flesh and blood, the moon grew num...
Even Aishalin's usually indifferent face showed a hint of shock: "But the problem is, even a race with so many awakened beings has been swallowed up by the mist."
Everyone fell silent upon hearing Aishalin's words.
A sense of despair rose in everyone's heart.
“From what we know, this race should have already given birth to gods, and also has many awakened beings, and the number of demigods should not be small either. Such a powerful race has only lasted for a little over a hundred years... Is there really any hope for us humans?” Su Qi couldn’t help but smile bitterly.
The atmosphere became somewhat oppressive for a moment.
Osiris then chuckled and said, "Whether we can be saved or not, we can't just wait to die, can we? No matter how strong the evil god in the mist is, we cannot give in."
Yaen grinned and said, "That's right. Even dying a glorious death in battle is better than living a cowardly life!"
An Lan changed the subject, saying, "Let's go. All four nodes have been destroyed. Let's go check out the core area."
Everyone nodded.
They then walked towards the location where the central spiritual pollution was most intense.
After two days of trekking, the group finally saw the area where the spiritual pollution was most intense.
When they saw the buildings in the desert, everyone's eyes widened.
It was an inverted pyramid structure made of human skulls.
This inverted pyramid structure floats in mid-air.
The skull was wrapped in bandages soaked with corpse fluid, which flowed down the bandages to the bottom of the inverted pyramid, dripping down and accumulating into a pool of yellowish slime at the base of the pyramid.
The stench of decay could be clearly smelled even from several kilometers away.
"What the hell is this thing?" Jerry's voice was a little hoarse.
Even the saints like Anlan and Ya'en, who frequently ventured into the mist, had furrowed brows and grim expressions.
“I’ve only seen this kind of eerie architecture a few times, even in the mist.” Yann grinned, his eyes serious. “These kinds of places are usually very dangerous.”
Steve swallowed hard and asked, "So what do we do next?"
Osiris clenched his fist and gave a simple, honest smile: "What else can we do? We can't just watch this thing float in the mist, can we? We have no choice but to go in and see what's going on inside."
Su Qi, Ling Chuan, and Aila twitched their lips.
“Let’s go take a look,” An Lan said with a serious expression.
The group stepped forward and walked towards the inverted pyramid of skulls floating in the air.
The closer they got, the more intense the aura of death they could feel.
An Lan checked the equipment and said, "The level of mental pollution here is enough to instantly cause a second-tier awakened person to become ill. The mental pollution inside is probably even more dangerous, so everyone should be careful."
Everyone nodded silently.
Soon, they reached the bottom of the inverted pyramid and came to the edge of the dim, yellowish pool of slime.
Everyone looked up.
As they got closer, they realized that the inverted pyramid was even larger than they had imagined.
The top plane is roughly ten kilometers in circumference, and the height is estimated to be over five kilometers, resembling a small city.
There is no entrance at the apex of the pyramid's base.
Given that they were still unclear about the situation inside, they did not choose to attack the pyramid directly and destroy it, but instead decided to go to the top first to take a look.
Aishalin conjured blocks of ice out of thin air.
After everyone stood on the ice block, Aisha Lin controlled the ice block to rise into the air.
Everyone quickly floated towards the top of the pyramid.
Soon, they arrived above the platform at the top of the pyramid.
The platform below was also made of skull and wrapped with a dim yellow bandage.
There is a square entrance in the center of the platform, and a staircase extends down from the entrance.
Lu Ning looked at the platform below and said, "You all stay here and don't move. I'll go down and check the situation first."
An Lan and the others all nodded.
This place looks extremely dangerous, so it's safest for Lu Ning to go down and check the situation first.
Lu Ning jumped off the ice block and landed on the inverted pyramid platform.
As Lu Ning landed, a crisp sound rang out, as if he were stepping on a stone slab.
Although it's a bit uneven, it doesn't feel too bad on the feet.
Importantly, wisps of death energy rose from below, flowing into Lu Ning's body through his feet, attempting to rot his flesh.
Lu Ning remained calm, allowing the power of death to surge into his body.
He took a few steps on the platform, then spoke up, "These skulls emanate an aura of death, roughly at the fifth level. It can be blocked with mental power. There are no other dangers at the moment."
Yann nodded and said, "I'll go down and take a look."
He jumped down and landed on the platform.
He didn't use his mental power at first, but immediately felt the power of death enter his body.
However, Yann's physical body was also quite strong, and these death forces could not corrode his body in a short time.
Golden holy light reappeared around Yann.
As the holy light coalesced, the power of death was kept at bay.
He sensed it for a moment, then looked at the crowd in the sky: "Come down."
Everyone landed on the platform.
After landing on the platform, An Lan said, "Let's go in."
The group maintained their formation, with Lu Ning leading the way down the stairs.
After descending the stairs for about a hundred meters, the group arrived at an empty room.
There is a passageway in each of the four directions of the room, and the inside of the passageway is a corridor paved with skulls.
Seeing this, An Lan frowned and asked, "Is this place a maze?"
