Wasteland Farming: A Handbook for Raising Human Cubs

Transmigrating into a post-apocalyptic world with mutated creatures, Zhao Xiaoxiu thought she was already unlucky enough.

She never expected that after waking up, her unreliable father would ...

Chapter 18 Falling for the Monk's Old Fool

Shanyuan stewed a big pot of pumpkin, stir-fried a plate of shredded cabbage, and also made a soup with tomatoes.

No extra seasonings or side dishes are needed; just the most basic, fresh ingredients are enough to make Zhao Xiaoxiu and the Meng brothers' mouths water uncontrollably.

Meng Lao Er covered his mouth, feeling so happy it was unreal.

Meng also turned on the detection light on the detection gun and tested it.

The lights did not react, indicating that none of this was an illusion created by the mutated creature.

Shan Yuan secretly observed Meng Laoda's little action, said nothing, chased the little monkey out, and urged everyone to eat while it was hot.

Outside, it was pouring rain, but inside, there was a warm oil lamp and delicious food.

With the hosts being so hospitable, the guests stopped pretending to be polite and picked up their bowls and chopsticks to enjoy the food.

Zhao Xiaoxiu has small arms and legs, and her hands can't reach the bowl of vegetables. Following her instructions, Zhao Gang filled her bowl with pumpkin and added a large piece of shredded cabbage.

Zhao Xiaoxiu stirred the rice with a spoon, then buried her head directly in the bowl.

Zhao Gang smiled; his little one was cutest when he was working hard to eat.

Zhao Xiaoxiu could only recall the taste of pumpkin and cabbage from her vague memories of her previous life.

So when she tasted a bitter flavor, she just thought that this was probably what evolved vegetables tasted like.

But I'm not entirely sure.

I secretly glanced at the Meng brothers while they were eating. They seemed to be enjoying their meal without tasting any bitterness.

Uncle Meng was so moved that tears welled up in his eyes.

The meal was devoured in a flash.

Shan Yuan himself barely got a few bites; the rest ended up in the stomachs of the Meng brothers and Zhao Xiaoxiu.

Zhao Gang only drank half a bowl of tomato soup. After finishing it, he looked pale and sickly. If Zhao Xiaoxiu hadn't tugged at his sleeve to remind him, he would have spat it out.

He still couldn't accept human food.

The sky darkened completely, the heavy rain turned into a drizzle, and the surroundings were so quiet that only the whistling of grass, trees, and wind could be heard.

Zhao Xiaoxiu thought to herself with a wicked sense of humor: darkness, heavy rain, desolate mountains and dilapidated temples—the elements of Chinese horror were fully utilized.

I always feel bad when I accept food from others.

The Meng brothers actively helped clean up the dishes.

Shan Yuan found two oil lamps and lit them.

He said to Zhao Gang, "This is the only duty room in the temple that people can stay in. I'll have Little Monkey take you to the guesthouse next door. It's very safe there, and the rooms are big, so it'll be more comfortable for children."

He then handed the lamp to the little monkey, gesturing for him to lead the way.

Then, feeling a little embarrassed, he said to the Meng brothers, "You two can just sleep on the floor here with me for the night, is that alright?"

Zhao Gang was completely indifferent. He slung his backpack over his shoulder, grabbed his belongings, picked up Zhao Xiaoxiu, and prepared to leave.

Meng Laoda hesitated for a moment, then walked out of the duty room, looked around, and tentatively asked, pointing to the side room on the other side of the main hall:

"Isn't there another room over there? It's not very convenient for Gangzi to walk so far with the child."

Moreover, living together allows everyone to look out for each other.

Meng Lao Er looked at Zhao Xiaoxiu, still feeling uneasy, and said that he and his elder brother could sleep in the main hall, while Zhao Gang and his daughter could sleep on the floor to avoid any trouble.

Zhao Xiaoxiu nodded her little head, thinking that this arrangement was quite good.

It was so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, and even with her living father by her side, she still felt a bit creepy.

Let's all squeeze in together.

Shan Yuan's expression changed. "You don't trust me? Are you afraid I'll deliberately separate you so I can steal something?"

Upon hearing this, the Meng brothers immediately felt embarrassed and hurriedly explained that they did not mean it that way.

Even the monkeys know that a monk's worship of Buddha is full of goodwill. Plus, there are more people on their side, so it seems that the monk should be more afraid of being robbed.

After thinking about it this way, the Meng brothers said nothing more.

Zhao Xiaoxiu also lowered her head in shame.

However, when the Meng brothers suggested taking Zhao Gang and his daughter to the guesthouse together, Shan Yuan's smile, which had just returned, instantly changed again.

Before he could get angry, Zhao Gang rejected the two brothers first.

The father and daughter gestured for the little monkey to lead the way, and then they left the temple.

Meng Lao Er followed them all the way to the temple gate, loudly instructing, "Be careful, call for help if anything happens, we'll come right away if we hear you!"

Zhao Xiaoxiu: "I know, Uncle Meng."

After watching the father and daughter walk to the right side of the temple, the light of the oil lamp grew dimmer and dimmer before Meng Lao Er turned back.

Turning around, I saw Shanyuan carrying an oil lamp.

The surrounding trees cast heavy shadows on his face, sometimes bright, sometimes dark, and a fierce glint flashed in his eyes behind his glasses.

Meng Lao Er's heart skipped a beat; he was startled!

Looking up again, Shan Yuan still had the same peaceful expression as before, smiling gently as she comforted him:

"Don't worry, the guesthouse is right next to the temple, less than fifty meters away. Just walk past that pine tree and you'll get there."

What is Isophosporum?

Meng Lao Er suddenly felt dizzy.

Shan Yuan sighed softly, stepped forward, and closed the temple gate.

When he turned around again, Meng Lao Er was already kneeling on the ground, supporting himself with his hands, shaking his head incessantly, trying to clear his mind.

Shan Yuan stood before him, calmly looking down as he struggled.

A short while later, Meng Lao Er collapsed.

Before losing consciousness, he had only one thought in his mind: It's over, there's a drug in the food!

Hearing the commotion outside, Boss Meng came out of the duty room.

Upon seeing her younger brother lying on the ground, her mind suddenly went blank, and a strong sense of dizziness surged up. She only had time to utter a shocked cry: "Shanyuan, you!"
