Transmigrating into a post-apocalyptic world with mutated creatures, Zhao Xiaoxiu thought she was already unlucky enough.
She never expected that after waking up, her unreliable father would ...
The Meng brothers never imagined that they would be sent to a little ghost as food.
Previously, they had only heard of people who couldn't bear to part with their deceased relatives, even knowing that the deceased had become a heartless, vicious, and cruel monster that only fed on flesh and blood, and would still hide it away.
The cunning of these monsters lies in their ability to see through human attachments.
Thus, they began to imitate the people humans cherish, tricking humans into becoming their food, or making humans find living people for them to eat.
If this demand is not met, it will go berserk and retaliate fiercely against the humans who hid it.
The Meng brothers were only relieved that the ghost they had hidden was only the size of a six or seven-year-old child.
Perhaps sensing that the two motionless humans posed no threat, the little devil did not bite through their throats at the outset.
Instead, they started gnawing on their hands and feet.
That's why the two brothers were able to struggle and regain consciousness from the immense pain.
The sedative administered under the influence of good karma is enough to knock out an elephant.
With their bodies weak and their minds hazy, the Meng brothers could only rely on their survival instincts to fight off the little devil.
The two brothers didn't even dare to think they could live. They were just driven by a desire for revenge, determined to kill the brat before they died!
But the two brothers never expected that they would be able to hear Zhao Xiaoxiu calling their names again.
Those innocent children's voices sounded like heavenly music in the dark haunted house.
A loud "BOOM!"
A blood-red tentacle the size of a bowl forcefully pierced through the specially made metal door.
Light suddenly filled the dark haunted house, shining directly onto the little ghost whose ankles were chained together.
Her hair was disheveled, and she wore a pinafore dress that was repeatedly soaked in blood and whose original color was no longer recognizable.
Its deformed and twisted hands and feet were completely braced on the ground, like a wild beast.
The sudden burst of light stung its blood-red eyes.
It instinctively closed its eyes, opened its mouth as wide as it could, and let out a piercing scream that was both angry and aggrieved.
The Meng brothers, who were closest to it, felt a splitting headache and their eardrums tightened and throbbed with pain. They wished they could bang their heads against the wall to relieve the pain.
Zhao Gang's warm and large hands quickly pressed Zhao Xiaoxiu's head down into his arms, blocking the piercing scream.
The next second, the tentacles, capable of piercing through metal doors, ruthlessly and decisively stabbed into the little devil's brain.
The screams stopped abruptly.
The only sound was the clanging of the chains as the imp struggled.
The woman, Shan Yuan, collapsed outside the Buddhist temple, her heart filled with immense pain. She silently called out "Baby," her eyes suddenly widened, and her body went limp. She died.
Zhao Xiaoxiu stepped out of her father's arms, glanced at her father lying on the ground, frowned, and couldn't quite describe the feeling in her heart.
This wasn't the first time she had witnessed someone die tragically in front of her at close range.
But it was the first time she had seen the world controlled by the SHASI virus since leaving the base, and how cruel it was to humanity.
Compared to the outside world, the unfinished buildings in the base are indeed a place that survivors yearn for.
Zhao Xiaoxiu directed her father to dismantle the door and move the Meng brothers, who seemed to be somewhat delirious, into the duty room.
Zhao Gang poured a large bucket of cold water down on them, and the two brothers immediately jolted up from the ground.
Blood mixed with sweat rolled down their faces, clearly revealing the injuries on their bodies.
Seeing the bloody holes where bone had been gnawed out of Meng Lao Er's calves, and the pieces of flesh torn off from Meng Lao Er's arms, Zhao Xiaoxiu couldn't help but gasp.
She quickly asked Zhao Gang to take out the fungus that the three of them had brought from their bags, and the father and daughter together covered the wounds of the two brothers with the fungal hyphae.
The hyphae have a significant hemostatic effect, quickly adhering to the flesh and forming a thin membrane that temporarily isolates the wound from other bacteria in the air.
However, the amount of mycelium they brought was not enough; it was only enough to cover the most severely affected areas on both of them.
For the remaining wounds, Zhao Xiaoxiu had Zhao Gang cut off the clothes from their bodies and hastily bandaged them up.
The furnishings in the duty room were laid out clearly, with no place to hide anything.
Zhao Xiaoxiu jumped around the room, trying to find something to treat her wound.
The result was nothing.
"He's dead, he should be burned."
Seeing that the Meng brothers looked better than before and had regained their senses, Zhao Gang immediately took the two of them out to dispose of Shan Yuan and the little ghost's corpse.
The two brothers had just escaped death and hadn't even recovered when they were arrested and forced to work.
Meng Lao Er, leaning against the wall, complained, "Gangzi, do you have any humanity left?!"
Despite saying that, it didn't stop him from finding a lighter and lamp oil in the kitchen.
My hand is ruined, so I can only call Zhao Gang in to take the things out.
When Zhao Gang took the item, he said to Meng Lao Er in a serious tone, "No."
He's not human, how could he possibly have humanity?
Completely out of sync with Zhao Gang's train of thought, Meng Lao Er was momentarily stunned by the "no," and peeked out: "Huh?"
"What are you 'ah'ing about? Hurry up and come help me move these firewood over there!" Old Meng shouted irritably.
He injured his leg and had difficulty moving around.
Meng Lao Er rushed out. One of the brothers had an injured hand, and the other had an injured foot, so they couldn't do much work.
Zhao Gang waved his hand, telling them to go to the side, and then took Chai Heshanyuan's corpse, along with the little ghost whose head had exploded and whose limbs were still struggling, to the open space in the backyard and burned them.
Flames shot skyward, turning the entire temple a fiery red.
