Wasteland Farming: A Handbook for Raising Human Cubs

Transmigrating into a post-apocalyptic world with mutated creatures, Zhao Xiaoxiu thought she was already unlucky enough.

She never expected that after waking up, her unreliable father would ...

Chapter 211 Giant Salamander

The insect swarm is afraid of water. The group of insects that chases the stream the most closely can't stop and gets swept away.

The remaining insects dared not advance any further, forming a dark mass that stretched along the stream bank. They were unwilling to retreat, yet dared not move forward. After much hesitation, they finally withdrew.

A victorious smile immediately appeared on Zhao Xiaoxiu's rosy cheeks from running.

She took out a bottle of yogurt from her small backpack and drank it all in one go. She put the empty bottle back in her backpack, zipped it up, and jumped over the rocks back to the other side.

There were also a dozen or so mutated insects that had broken away from the main force and were stuck in the crevices of the rocks. Zhao Xiaoxiu raised her leg and stomped on them one by one, crushing them all!

Those wretched bugs made her run around for most of the day!

Sheng Qingyang, who was secretly observing, gasped and suddenly wondered why his little apprentice was a bit violent.

There was movement in the water.

Zhao Xiaoxiu, who had just stomped on all the insects, suddenly turned around and saw a chubby, pink creature with four tiny legs, its body shaped like a fish, float up from the water.

A shadow fell from above, completely enveloping Zhao Xiaoxiu.

The little girl was dumbfounded, unable to understand how such a big guy could be hidden in such a small stream.

Or perhaps it was already lying in the stream, and she just hadn't seen it before.

Zhao Xiaoxiu knew that the mutants generally wouldn't attack her unless provoked. She carried the scent of her monster father, which would cause them to avoid her.

However, lower-level mutants generally do not have such sensitive perception.

The fish-like creature in front of them was a B-grade mutant.

That leaves only one reason: her stepping on the insect startled it.

Strangely, although the mutated creature in front of her didn't have eyes, Zhao Xiaoxiu felt that it was looking at her with the same drooling gaze one would give to a meal.

It was craving her. Zhao Xiaoxiu was certain of that.

But she wasn't tempted by it; it didn't smell appetizing at all.

Zhao Xiaoxiu decisively raised her knife. She was going to kill this strange creature and let it know that it was not worthy of coveting her!

"Come on, show me what you've got!" Zhao Xiaoxiu roared at the strange fish in front of her.

To her utter surprise, with just a roar, the strange creature in front of her actually pursed its lips and made a "waaaaa" sound, similar to a baby crying.

Zhao Xiaoxiu tilted her head, "Huh?" She made her cry because she was scolded?

The cries of "waaaaaah!" came in waves, leaving Zhao Xiaoxiu a little confused. What was going on?

Unaware that all the creatures nearby who heard the crying were heading towards the stream, she was engrossed in studying the strange fish.

Some, their path blocked by tree branches, bumped into them, then suddenly awoke as if realizing something terrifying, and hurriedly fled in the opposite direction of the stream.

Monkey Sister, who was leisurely swaying on the tip of a tree branch, and Sheng Qingyang, who was squatting on the treetop, suddenly jumped down from the tree and silently walked towards the stream.

The wailing sound in her ears annoyed Zhao Xiaoxiu. Just as she was about to abandon all martial ethics and directly smash open the strange fish's head to take a look, her ears twitched and she noticed a lot of rustling footsteps behind her.

Looking back, Monkey Sister and Master looked like puppets being led by a rope, their eyes vacant as they walked step by step toward the stream.

Zhao Xiaoxiu watched helplessly as her master stepped into the stream, while the strange fish excitedly and slowly opened its mouth wide.

Its mouth was ridiculously large, hanging directly onto the river surface, and its height, combined with its shape, was more than two meters, like a doorway.

A foul smell of saliva wafted over, and Sheng Qingyang's expression suddenly changed, vaguely showing signs of struggle.

Without struggling at all, Sister Monkey hopped step by step, blankly, into that huge mouth.

Zhao Xiaoxiu sheathed her twin swords, grabbed Monkey Sister's tail with one hand and Sheng Qingyang's hand with the other, and forcefully pulled the two dazed guys back.

The man and the monkey stumbled and suddenly woke up with a start.

Sister Monkey chirped twice in confusion, but Sheng Qingyang immediately noticed something was wrong and quickly pulled Zhao Xiaoxiu backward, retreating thirty meters in one go.

"It's a Class B mutated invisible giant salamander. Its crying is designed to confuse the nerves and lure its prey into its mouth. We can't be affected by its crying. Xiaoxiu, let's go!"

As soon as Sheng Qingyang finished speaking, the wailing suddenly turned into a wail. Monkey Sister was caught off guard and roared in disgust, feeling so uncomfortable that her brain felt like it was about to split open.

Sheng Qingyang quickly took out two wads of tissues and reminded it to plug its ears. Monkey Sister's eyes were red from the pain. It took a lot of effort to plug its ears before it felt a little better.

Sheng Qingyang was also feeling unwell, but she noticed that Zhao Xiaoxiu seemed a little too relaxed.

"Are you feeling very unwell?" Zhao Xiaoxiu asked with concern.

Sheng Qingyang covered his ears, guessing that Zhao Xiaoxiu was concerned about him. He nodded heavily and asked in confusion, "Don't you feel like your head is about to explode if you resist?"

Zhao Xiaoxiu shook her head, "I didn't think so at all, I just thought it was so noisy." She wanted to smash the salamander's head.

Sheng Qingyang read her lips, somewhat surprised. A thought flashed through his mind, and looking at the salamander crying increasingly loudly, he said:

"This mutated giant salamander is so big, its skin could be exchanged for at least 8,000 points!"

Zhao Xiaoxiu asked in shock, "How much?"

Sheng Qingyang explained: "The skin of the giant salamander has the function of invisibility and will automatically blend into the environment. The invisibility function of the special combat uniforms of the military special forces members is made of fish skin."

"It's just that these giant salamanders are very difficult to spot, and most of the people who spot them end up as their food. The one in front of us is so big that the skin we can get off is much larger than that of a regular one, so it will definitely fetch a higher price."

Under normal circumstances, Sheng Qingyang would not have coveted this wealth.

But now...

"Simply plugging your ears is not very effective against this kind of psychological attack. The closer you are to the salamander, the greater the impact. If the external stimulation is too great, it will react by hiding and escaping, and you will have wasted your efforts."

Sheng Qingyang looked down into his little apprentice's clear eyes. "Have you noticed? It's very interested in you. If we can find a way to shut it up and prevent it from launching a mental attack, Sister Monkey and I can capture it alive, and we might be able to sell it for a higher price."

Zhao Xiaoxiu's heart skipped a beat. What a valuable fish!

Sheng Qingyang looked at the mutated giant salamander with its gaping maw, which was six meters long and had a mouth that was two meters wide due to its enormous head.

Its mouth is as big as a door when it opens. To block such a big mouth from making a sound, you would have to stuff at least a large oil tank in it.

Moreover, the timing of the attack must be right. The net and the pouting must be used simultaneously, otherwise it will hide and run away when stimulated, and you won't be able to find it.

“Master, we don’t have a net or stopper that big,” Zhao Xiaoxiu reminded him.

Sheng Qingyang: "That's why I need you to attract its attention. I need time to prepare the capture net and the stopper..."

"Can't we just poison it?" Zhao Xiaoxiu asked, puzzled.

Sheng Qingyang, still calculating how long it would take to make the capture net and the plug, was bewildered by the question.
