Transmigrating into a post-apocalyptic world with mutated creatures, Zhao Xiaoxiu thought she was already unlucky enough.
She never expected that after waking up, her unreliable father would ...
The biggest impact of the SHASI virus on humans is that it restricts normal human reproduction.
Fourteen years after the cataclysm, a fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy appearing alone on the street wouldn't attract much attention.
But if a four-year-old child walks alone on the street, it's hard not to attract people's attention.
As for a burly man who is nearly two meters tall appearing on the street, although he might attract a few glances, he would seem quite ordinary compared to the members of the hunting party dressed in strange costumes.
However, this burly man, who looked like he had just come from the inland, walked in a strange way, with his butt sticking out high, his arms swinging back and forth, and he would occasionally jump.
Fortunately, the dock was full of busy people, and no one had the extra energy to pay attention to such a strange, burly man.
So the burly man swaggered over to the port dock and asked passersby where there were boats going to the white pagoda across the harbor.
This burly man was tall and strong, but his voice was strange, as if he was wearing a voice changer or his vocal cords were accidentally damaged. It was hoarse and unclear, and passersby could never hear him clearly.
However, this person was very generous, stuffing them with expensive candies, cheap cigarettes, and the like.
After making some inquiries, it was discovered that ordinary survivors who wanted to reach the White Tower on the other side had to take a cargo ship belonging to the biological company.
The ship runs twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Except for employees of the biotechnology company headquarters, no one else is allowed to stay overnight on the tower.
People usually go to the White Tower for scarce supplies in the department store inside, or to replenish advanced equipment and weapons. Therefore, during normal business hours in the daytime, ordinary people can move freely inside the department store, but cannot leave the building area.
Anyone who violates this rule will be shot immediately, regardless of the reason.
Buying tickets is easy too. A passerby pointed to the ticket booth at the pier and said, "Look, it's over there. A ticket costs 1,000 points. You've come at just the right time. Boarding will start in ten minutes. Hurry up and buy your ticket."
For the sake of the free cigarettes, the passerby whispered in the burly man's ear, "If you want to buy discounted tickets, you can go to the cargo ship and find the disabled boy with the orange hat. He only charges 2,000 points."
Upon hearing this, the burly man tilted his sunglasses slightly. Discounted tickets were more expensive than regular-priced tickets?
I didn't understand, but I politely said thank you and walked towards the cargo ship.
Before they even arrived at their destination, a lame boy wearing an orange hat jumped out and stood next to him, asking if he wanted a discounted ticket that would allow him to skip the boarding security check and board the ship directly.
The burly man's sunglasses tilted again, and this time he understood. He decisively handed over his points card, swiped 2,000 points, and exchanged them for a boat ticket.
The boy told him to wait a moment and not to rush onto the boat. After about seven or eight minutes, four or five people dressed even more strangely than him gathered around.
A group of people followed the boy, boarded a small fishing boat, bypassed the cargo ship's boarding point, and arrived at the side and rear of the cargo ship.
At that moment, a window on the cargo ship opened, and the boy nodded and greeted the people inside. The people inside then reached out and pulled everyone on the small fishing boat inside one by one.
This is a dark little cargo hold, filled with all sorts of supplies. There's limited space left, so five or six people are crammed together.
"If you don't want to be thrown overboard to feed the mutated sharks, you'd better behave yourselves and keep quiet. I'll come and get you when we get there." The person on board who was supposed to meet you gave a stern instruction, then closed the cabin door and left.
So it was illegal immigration!
Zhao Xiaoxiu, who was inside the burly man disguised as Monkey Sister, peeked out through the gap between the buttons of the coat. It was pitch black outside, with only a few red indicator lights flashing.
These people crammed around me were definitely not normal base residents. I wonder what their intentions were. They paid twice the price of other people's tickets, yet they could only squeeze into such a small space without a single complaint.
Everyone remained quiet, tacitly adhering to the 'rules of the trade,' neither taking initiative nor inquiring.
A short while later, the cargo ship set sail, and the sound of churning seawater could be heard outside the hold.
Zhao Xiaoxiu's heart also started to race with excitement. Once she got ashore safely, she should be able to see her father, right?
She had a strong intuition that her father might be watching her every move from somewhere.
Just like before, as long as she is within his range and encounters any danger, he can appear in a second.
The distance between the white pagoda and the island may not seem far, but it is actually a half-hour flight.
The cargo ship is fully loaded with supplies, so its speed may be even slower.
In a daze, Zhao Xiaoxiu took a nap.
Dressed in adult clothes, Sister Monkey was both nervous and curious. Her eyes, hidden behind sunglasses, looked around, and she would occasionally raise her hand to touch her belly, making sure the cub was inside and behaving well before feeling relieved.
After an unknown amount of time, the loud rushing water suddenly stopped, and the people in the cabin instantly became restless.
"Are we there?" someone couldn't help but ask in a low voice, immediately met with a hiss from another person, warning him to keep quiet.
A series of footsteps approached, getting faster and closer—the sound of thick soles of military boots pounding on the deck.
Zhao Xiaoxiu was suddenly awakened, and everyone around her stood up, looking nervously at the hatch with its flashing red light.
Two electronic beeps sounded in the silent cabin, the tightly closed door slowly opened, and a strong light rushed in, revealing a team of fully armed mercenaries standing outside.
"Run!"
Someone shouted, breaking the silence inside the cabin. The sounds of running, shouting, and alarms mingled together, creating chaos.
