...Madam Pei was forcibly pulled up by Madam Pei, and she was somewhat embarrassed. She subconsciously turned to look at Ye Ningwan, as if hoping that Ye Ningwan could say something.
"But...but..."
However, Ye Ningwan simply sat there, smiling and watching the two without moving, showing no intention of saying anything to refute Madam Pei the Second. She just watched as Madam Pei the Fourth was dragged away.
Even though Madam Pei was pulled to the middle of the second branch of the family, she still glanced at Ye Ningwan from time to time, her eyes filled with concern and worry.
Ye Ningwan sat alone in a corner where no one paid her any attention, listening to the families sitting together on the sofa in the center of the living room chatting, seemingly having a good relationship.
She sat alone in a single chair under the huge glass window, letting the darkness falling from the window envelop her completely. Her eyes were lowered, her eyelashes gently covering her like black raven feathers, and her expression was not visible in the shadows, making it impossible to tell what she was thinking at that moment.
Suddenly, a person walked up to Ye Ningwan and spoke to her in a condescending manner.
"Hey, move aside!"
Ye Ningwan didn't even lift her eyelids, as if she were asleep.
The man pursed his bright red lips and spoke to Ye Ningwan again, clearly displeased.
"Get out of the way, I want to sit here! This is not a place for someone of your status to sit. Stand aside!"
Ye Ningwan still ignored her.
"My mother is Pei Mingzhu. If you dare disobey me, I'll make sure you get out of the Pei family right now!"
The man seemed to be enraged by Ye Ningwan's dismissive attitude, and suddenly raised his foot to kick Ye Ningwan, his voice rising abruptly.
"I told you to get out of the way, are you deaf?"
Everyone present heard it, but they only glanced at Ye Ningwan briefly before looking away and continuing their conversation. No one cared how Ye Ningwan had been harassed.
But the next second, there was a loud bang.
"ah--"
A woman's piercing scream rang out, accompanied by the sound of shattering glass.
"Mommy! Mommy!"
Upon hearing her daughter's cries, Pei Mingzhu immediately stood up and rushed towards Ye Ningwan with a pale face.
"Tangtang, Tangtang, what's wrong?"
Several other families were also with Pei Mingzhu.
Fang Yuetang was lying on the ground, looking miserable, with shards of glass beneath her, and the glass door next to her was cracked.
Fang Yuetang bumped into that glass door, which caused her to fall to the ground, covered in shards of glass.
Pei Mingzhu only had this one precious daughter, whom she protected like the apple of her eye. Now, seeing her lying in a pool of blood covered in shards of glass, she felt a wave of dizziness wash over her, as if a mushroom cloud had exploded in her mind, destroying all her reason.
"Tangtang!"
Pei Mingzhu was about to pounce on Fang Yuetang when, fortunately, Butler Wang, who was standing nearby, reacted quickly and stopped her.
“Young lady, you can’t do this. There are shards of glass all around. You will hurt yourself and make Miss Yuetang even more injured.”
Although Pei Mingzhu is usually decisive and efficient in both housekeeping and business, she still panicked when faced with this situation. However, since the person in front of her was the housekeeper by Old Master Pei's side, she could not lash out and could only suppress her anger and ask.
"Then what should we do?"
Butler Wang found a strong maid to lift Fang Yuetang off the ground before they could call a doctor to clean Fang Yuetang's wounds.
The maid immediately stepped forward to clean up the broken glass on the ground. When she saw Ye Ningwan sitting nearby as if she were asleep, the maid thought for a moment and then politely reminded Ye Ningwan.
“Ninth Madam, the glass here has just fallen down, please be careful.”
Ye Ningwan finally opened her eyes halfway, glanced at the maid, and raised the corners of her lips as if she had heard.
On the sofa, Fang Yuetang cried and screamed, making a scene that filled the entire living room. Even the doctor who was cleaning her wound couldn't remove the glass shards.
"Ouch—it hurts! Mom, it hurts so much!"
The doctor was carefully using tweezers to remove the shards of glass from her leg when Fang Yuetang kicked the doctor to the ground.
The doctor's head hit the coffee table. He clutched his forehead and felt blood flowing down his face.
The nurse standing nearby immediately called out upon seeing this.
"Dr. Li, you've bumped your forehead!"
As the nurse spoke, she took out cotton swabs and iodine from the first-aid kit, preparing to apply medicine to Dr. Li.
But when Miss Pei, who was holding Fang Yuetang on the sofa, saw Dr. Li's bruised forehead, she not only did not feel guilty, but instead frowned and coldly scolded him.
"What's wrong with you? I told you to be gentle, but you still hit so hard! Do you want to quit your job?!"
Dr. Li's forehead was still bleeding, and one of his eyes was covered by the flowing blood, so only a patch of bright red could be seen. He could only glance at Fang Yuetang's wounds with his other eye and sighed silently in his heart.
By any measure, he was the one who was more seriously injured.
But Pei Mingzhu is always very protective of her own people and wouldn't care about his life or death. He could only swallow his pride, lower his head, and apologize to Pei Mingzhu in a low voice.
"I'm sorry, young lady, it was my carelessness. I'll try to be gentler next time."
Pei Mingzhu snorted coldly.
"Are you kidding me? You think I'd let you touch my daughter again? You're fired, and I never want to see you again!"
