..."Madam...why...why..."
Madam Pei gritted her teeth, staring coldly at the person in front of her, and spoke to her assistant word by word.
"You dare ask me why?!"
Madam Pei stood up, grabbed her assistant by the collar, and glared at him angrily.
"In your heart, am I the kind of woman who only cares about power and money and doesn't care about her son? Let me tell you, Minghan is the most important person to me, he is my most important son!"
Madam Pei's voice was very loud, and it still carried even through the tightly closed door.
What Madam Pei didn't know was that at the moment she uttered those words, her other son was standing outside that door.
Pei Minghao has been feeling a bit better these past few days and no longer needs a wheelchair. Today, he went out drinking with some of his buddies until late at night and only just returned home, drunk. As soon as he got back, he heard from the maid that something had happened at home.
Pei Minghao guessed that something must have happened to his older brother again, so he thought of rushing over to help.
However, Pei Minghao did not expect that he would hear his mother's voice from the door of this room when he was passing by the corridor. He stopped in his tracks and subconsciously stood at the door to listen to what the person inside was saying.
Then, Pei Minghao heard Madam Pei saying...
"Let me tell you, Minghan is the most important person to me; he is my most important son!"
His mother was saying.
"Let me tell you, Minghan is the most important person to me; he is my most important son!"
"He is my most important son!"
The most important thing... is my son?!
Pei Minghao's hand, which was on the doorknob, slowly slid down. His eyes, which were filled with the smell of alcohol, suddenly became empty. He stared numbly at the dark door panel and let out a self-deprecating, low snort.
His forehead pressed against the door, and he silently and slowly uttered a few words.
"Your favorite person is your eldest brother, so what about me... Mom?"
Meanwhile, Madam Pei in the room had released her grip on her assistant's collar, finally calming down. She was breathing heavily, and it took her a long time to regain her composure before slowly sitting back down on the sofa, her gaze slightly unfocused.
The assistant simply watched Madam Pei quietly, obediently waiting for her to calm down.
After an unknown amount of time, Madam Pei finally reached out and grasped the cup of chrysanthemum tea on the coffee table, drinking more than half of it in one gulp, seemingly not feeling that the tea was too hot at all.
The scalding pain, almost burning her esophagus, actually helped Madam Pei calm down.
Finally, she let out a long sigh of relief and quietly spoke to her assistant.
"Go ahead and take care of it. We'll head over at daybreak tomorrow. Don't tell Minghan about this for now, lest he feel even worse if things don't go smoothly."
The assistant nodded; he understood.
"Don't worry, I will definitely arrange for someone to take good care of the young master, and this kind of thing will not happen again!"
Madam Pei said nothing, but slowly stood up again.
The assistant quickly stood up, reached out to support Madam Pei's arm, and whispered.
"Be careful, you're exhausted today. It'll be dawn in two or three hours. You should get some rest. You've been working too hard lately. The future is long, and your health is the most important thing."
Madam Pei, holding her assistant's hand, ignored what the assistant said, and it was unclear whether she had taken it to heart.
As she walked out, she gave instructions to her assistant.
"You don't need to worry about my affairs. Just focus on your own work."
The assistant nodded.
"Don't worry, I definitely will."
As he spoke, he opened the door to the room for Madam Pei.
There was no one outside the door, only a dark corridor leading to a deep, sunless abyss.
The assistant helped Madam Pei out, and as their footsteps echoed, the lights overhead came on, spreading out in the direction they were heading.
The sky gradually brightened.
In the hospital operating room corridor, at the far end of the operating room door, Pei Fengzhi sat quietly, his eyes slightly closed, waiting for Ye Ningwan, who was undergoing surgery inside.
Meanwhile, Pei Mingzhu, who was also standing at the entrance of the operating room, paced anxiously back and forth, occasionally looking up at the red sign above the operating room.
The sign was lit up in red and had the words "Operation in Progress" written on it.
Pei Mingzhu glanced at Pei Fengzhi sitting in the corner. After countless internal struggles, this usually aloof young lady finally walked towards Pei Fengzhi in her high heels and spoke in a hoarse voice.
"Ninth Brother..."
Pei Fengzhi, who had been sleeping with her eyes closed, slowly opened them and glanced at Pei Mingzhu standing in front of her with a calm and indifferent expression. Her clear pupils held little warmth as she gazed at her calmly.
"What's up?"
Pei Mingzhu was a woman who had seen a lot, but at this moment, she subconsciously took a few steps back because of a simple look from Pei Fengzhi.
Pei Mingzhu felt a chill in her heart at that moment. The chilling coldness seemed to crawl up her spine step by step like a maggot clinging to her bones, making her feel a slight numbness in her bones. Her legs were trembling and she almost couldn't stand up.
Seeing Pei Mingzhu like this, Pei Fengzhi had no patience to wait for her. He slowly closed his eyes and resumed his previous icy, aloof demeanor.
Pei Mingzhu was filled with unease. She was terrified of Pei Fengzhi, but at this moment she was so uneasy that she really wanted to talk to someone.
She opened her mouth, finally mustering up the courage to ask Pei Fengzhi cautiously.
"Ninth Brother, the surgery has been going on for over four hours now, and it's still ongoing! You think... you think Tangtang... what if she..."
Pei Fengzhi opened her eyes again and glanced coolly at the trembling Pei Mingzhu.
Pei Mingzhu in front of him had completely calmed down and had long lost the courage she had when she went crazy at Pei Fengzhi last night.
Pei Mingzhu shrank back in fear and whispered.
"I...I really was just...just worried..."
Pei Fengzhi finally spoke coldly.
"She'll get better eventually. If you're really worried, how about I have the doctor give you an injection so you can get a good night's sleep?"
As Pei Fengzhi said this, a slight smile curved his thin, indifferent lips, his smile cold and sinister, sending a chill down one's spine.
