Chapter 189, /.

"Please don't tell anyone about my hand for now. The hospital is full of my people, and the news is being kept strictly confidential. Neither my family nor anyone outside knows that my hand can recover."

Upon hearing Pei Fengzhi's words, Old Master Pei immediately understood.

But he still frowned.

"you mean?"

Pei Fengzhi nodded. His face was so pale, yet his pure black eyes appeared even more deep and dark, sharp as the wind howling through a snowy night.

"Only when those people think I'm useless can I have some peace and quiet here."

“I slept for three years, and during those three years I fell behind in too many things. Although I am not afraid of them, I do not want to waste most of my energy on these people.”

Although Pei Fengzhi was right, Old Master Pei expressed his disagreement.

"But if that's really the case, then you'll probably suffer a great injustice."

After all, he was his most beloved youngest son, and Old Master Pei's paternal love reached its peak, causing his heart to ache with each pang.

Pei Fengzhi, however, did not care much.

"It's not like I've been wronged at all."

Old Master Pei knew his son well; once he made up his mind, he would never change it.

We had no choice but to accept it.

"Go ahead and do it if you want. Anyway, Ye Ningwan is taking care of your hand. As long as she doesn't say anything, no one will know."

Pei Fengzhi said with certainty.

"She won't tell anyone."

Grandpa Pei stood up and gently patted Pei Fengzhi on the shoulder.

"Then I won't stay any longer. You should rest well and take care of yourself."

"Let me see you off."

Pei Fengzhi stood up to see Old Master Pei off, but Old Master Pei pressed him back onto the bed and said in a low voice.

"My son and I don't need to be so polite."

Pei Fengzhi didn't move again, and only then did Old Master Pei take his hand off Pei Fengzhi's shoulder, turn around with his cane, and walk step by step toward the door.

Pei Fengzhi just watched his back. Suddenly, Old Master Pei, who had walked to the door, turned around, put one hand on the doorknob, and said something to Pei Fengzhi.

“Fengzhi, although Ye Ningwan is a good girl, she is ultimately just someone chosen to take care of you. Although her destiny is good for you, her status is not a good match for you.”

"Just be good to her, don't actually..."

Old Master Pei's words were interrupted by Pei Fengzhi just as he got to this point.

"I know what I'm doing, don't worry."

Seeing Pei Fengzhi's nonchalant attitude, with his usual indifference, as if he were indifferent to the matter, Old Master Pei felt slightly relieved.

He had always worried that Pei Fengzhi might fall in love with Ye Ningwan, based on how Pei Fengzhi treated her.

If that's the case, then even if Ye Ningwan's fate can bring good fortune to Pei Fengzhi, this woman cannot be allowed to live any longer.

After all, there are women with good fortune.

Fortunately, Pei Fengzhi was still clear-headed.

Grandpa Pei nodded in satisfaction, but couldn't help but offer another word of advice to Pei Fengzhi.

"Once she gives birth to your eldest son and everything settles down, if you really like her, you can give her some money and keep her away from home, visiting her occasionally."

Pei Fengzhi lowered his phoenix eyes, smiling slightly, as faint as a wisp of smoke.

He neither agreed nor refused, he just smiled.

Grandpa Pei took it as a yes and finally turned and left the room.

Click.

The ward door made a soft closing sound, and Pei Fengzhi's smile faded, his already cold face now covered with a thin layer of frost.

He leaned back against the headboard, picked up his phone, and sent a text message.

...

Ye Ningwan was sitting in the car when her phone suddenly vibrated, the screen lit up, and a message popped up.

When Ye Ning opened it later, she was surprised to find it was Pei Fengzhi.

Why would he suddenly message me?

"Do you want me to come and keep you company now?"

Pei Fengzhi didn't say much, but it was clear that this meant Old Master Pei had already left.

Although Ye Ningwan didn't need anyone to accompany her, much less Pei Fengzhi's comfort, the corners of her lips still involuntarily curled up when she saw this message.

She didn't reply, but her mood was much better than before. Her gaze swept across the receding street scene outside the window, and suddenly her eyes fixed on a certain spot.

She immediately sat up straight, patted the back of the driver's seat, and shouted at the driver.

"Stop the car! Stop the car!"

The car came to a stop, skidding along the side of the road.

The driver turned his head and glanced at a row of old street shops. There was only a tiny vegetable market, a small shop where an old lady was sitting in front drinking tea, and... a paper-making shop with wreaths piled up in front of it.

The driver couldn't help but glance at Ye Ningwan sitting in the back seat through the rearview mirror above his head, completely baffled as to what Ye Ningwan was trying to do.

He asked cautiously.

"Ninth Madam, is there anything you wish to buy? I may..."

Ye Ningwan naturally wouldn't refuse such a free laborer.

She smiled at the driver as she opened the car door.

"Just come with me."

The driver still looked puzzled and asked Ye Ningwan another question, completely bewildered.

"But you're going back to your parents' home, aren't you? You wouldn't be planning to..."

Planning to buy a bunch of groceries here to take home?

The driver didn't understand.

Ye Ningwan still had a gentle smile on her face.

"Don't ask me any questions about my affairs. Just help me carry things."
