...Ye Ningwan accompanied Pei Fengzhi back to the ward.
Ye Ningwan pushed open the door and was surprised to see that Old Master Pei, who had supposedly left, had reappeared in the ward.
Hearing the door open, Old Master Pei, who was sitting on the sofa, raised his eyelids and looked over, replying indifferently.
"You're back?"
Pei Fengzhi nodded and weakly responded to Old Master Pei.
"Um."
Ye Ningwan didn't say anything. She lowered her head and helped Pei Fengzhi in. Only after helping him sit on the hospital bed did she stand by the bedside and greet Old Master Pei.
"dad."
Old Master Pei lifted his eyelids and glanced at Ye Ningwan. Seeing her covered in sweat and breathing slightly heavily, the reprimand he was about to give turned into a question.
"Why did you go out? Why didn't you bring a wheelchair? Look how tired you are."
Ye Ningwan smiled gently and simply said...
"The doctor said that Ninth Master has been bedridden for three years and his muscles need to be exercised, so it would be best if he could walk around more on his own, which would help with his recovery."
Grandpa Pei nodded, his face still bearing a serious expression.
"Exercise is important, but you should do it within your limits and not push yourself too hard."
Although he didn't say it explicitly, Old Master Pei's words still implied some resentment towards Ye Ningwan and his concern for his son.
Ye Ningwan didn't say anything. She understood Old Master Pei's love for his son and wouldn't argue with someone over just a few words.
"I know……"
Before Ye Ningwan could finish speaking, Pei Fengzhi had already grasped her hand, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand as he glanced at her tenderly.
"Dad, it's not Wanwan's fault. I asked her to help me out. The weather is nice today, and I wanted to take a walk."
Old Master Pei glanced at Pei Fengzhi, and after a long while, he finally smiled and nodded with great satisfaction.
"Your relationship as a couple is getting better and better, which is great."
Pei Fengzhi gently embraced Ye Ningwan and said with a smile.
“Wanwan married a disabled man like me at such a young age, and I’m so much older than her. She has to take care of me. It’s only right that I treat her well.”
He held Ye Ningwan's hand, his fingertips pinching her knuckles.
Ye Ningwan turned to look at Pei Fengzhi, and the two smiled at each other.
Grandpa Pei finally shifted his gaze to Ye Ningwan, and after a while, he shifted it back to Pei Fengzhi before speaking.
"Wanwan, it's been three days since you and Fengzhi got married. It's almost time for your homecoming."
Ye Ningwan raised her head, looked at Old Master Pei, and opened her mouth.
"I……"
Before Ye Ningwan could refuse, Old Master Pei had already given her an unquestionable answer.
"The housekeeper will accompany you back to check on things in a bit. Just come back before dinner."
"With Feng Zhi in such a state, I'm afraid you'll have to suffer alone."
Old Master Pei felt sorry for his son and didn't want Pei Fengzhi to go through all that trouble, but he didn't want to lose face in front of his in-laws, so he had no choice but to ask Ye Ningwan to do it.
Pei Fengzhi frowned in disapproval.
"dad……"
Before he could finish speaking, Ye Ningwan had already pressed Pei Fengzhi's hand and gently shook her head at him.
Ye Ningwan didn't actually care about this matter.
She was indeed going back to the Ye family to retrieve her jade pendant.
She should have done this a long time ago, but Pei Fengzhi was assassinated on the morning of the second day of their marriage, and then things piled up and she was too busy to handle them all, so she had to put the Ye family's affairs aside for the time being.
Now that Grandpa Pei has brought it up, Ye Ningwan is naturally happy to oblige.
She smiled and nodded.
"I don't feel wronged. I know my dad cares about me."
It's better that Pei Fengzhi doesn't go, otherwise she'll be too constrained in her actions and will have to carry Pei Fengzhi on her back.
Old Master Pei's gaze gradually softened as he relented to Ye Ningwan's obedience and compliance.
"Good boy/girl."
With a smile, Old Master Pei took out a card from his pocket and handed it to Ye Ningwan, saying kindly.
"Take this."
Ye Ningwan reached out and took it.
"This is?"
"Old Master Pei said with a smile."
"There's been so much going on these past few days that we haven't had time to prepare for your return visit. Here's a million yuan; use it to buy some things and send them to your family. We can't let them think we don't value them."
Ye Ningwan didn't feel it was perfunctory at all; the Pei family's approach was exactly what she wanted.
If the Pei family really prepared a whole bunch of gifts for her to take back to the Ye family, she'd probably be furious.
As for giving the bank card...
Ye Ningwan accepted the bank card from Grandpa Pei with both hands without the slightest refusal, and smiled gently.
"Don't worry, I've arranged everything perfectly, and I will absolutely not let the Pei family lose face."
Grandpa Pei nodded in relief and waved to Ye Ningwan.
"Go ahead, the car is already waiting for you downstairs. I'll stay with Fengzhi for a while."
Ye Ningwan put away her bank card, suppressing her excitement at making another profit. She turned back gently to Pei Fengzhi with a smile, gave him a few thoughtful words of advice, and then left reluctantly.
Pei Fengzhi could easily see that Ye Ningwan was deliberately putting on an act in front of Old Master Pei, but he also considerately played along with her.
The door to the ward was closed.
Ye Ningwan left, leaving only Pei Fengzhi and Old Master Pei in the ward.
Grandpa Pei picked up his cane from the sofa, slowly stood up, and walked step by step to Pei Fengzhi's bedside, where he slowly sat down.
