..."Ye Ningwan, this joke isn't funny!"
Seeing Li Mochuan's expression, Ye Ningwan couldn't help but laugh out loud.
She was not intimidated by the sudden drop in temperature in the restaurant, and spoke calmly and composedly.
"Unfortunately, this is not a joke. You should know that my marriage with Pei Fengzhi... was not a marriage of mutual consent. It wasn't even a marriage of equals. He was dying and needed a bride for a ghost marriage. Madam Pei didn't like Ye Ruoxin, so she used the childhood betrothal between the Ye and Pei families to try to marry Ye Ruoxin to Pei Fengzhi, who was in a vegetative state and about to die, to end the marriage once and for all."
"Who knew that the Ye family would directly undermine Ye Ruoxin and Pei Minghan's relationship by getting engaged ahead of time, thus solidifying their status as an engaged couple, and then temporarily replacing Ye Ruoxin with me as a way to appease the Pei family."
"And so, I, an abandoned daughter who had been kicked out of the Ye family a few years earlier, became a victim of the power struggle between the two families."
Upon hearing this, Li Mochuan's brow twitched slightly, and a hint of pity rose in his gaze as he looked at Ye Ningwan.
He didn't speak, but just listened to Ye Ningwan continue.
"Who knew I'd be so lucky, surviving a terrible ordeal. Pei Fengzhi, who had been declared dead by the doctors, woke up on the very night of our wedding. Suddenly, I went from being a scapegoat to becoming the ninth wife of the Pei family. It's truly a cruel twist of fate."
Pei Fengzhi was puzzled.
"Isn't this a good thing? Why do you still hate Pei Fengzhi? Why do you still want to frame him like this?"
Ye Ningwan gave a soft, bitter laugh and asked Li Mochuan a question in return.
"Mr. Li, let me ask you this: under such circumstances, you were led by the nose, persecuted, and forced into marriage. Even if your new husband hadn't died, would you have been happy to continue living with him?"
Li Mochuan silently immersed himself in the scenario set up by Ye Ningwan, and finally slowly shook his head.
"Won't."
Not only would he not, but given Li Mochuan's personality, he would likely turn the entire Pei family upside down, and it wouldn't be surprising if he directly killed Pei Fengzhi.
It is evident that Li Mochuan and Ye Ningwan have remarkably similar personalities in many ways.
Ye Ningwan chuckled softly.
"So, that's why I framed Pei Fengzhi. First, it was for revenge, and second, it was to have a legitimate reason to divorce Pei Fengzhi and ask for my freedom."
Li Mochuan looked into Ye Ningwan's incredibly sincere eyes, those cat-like pupils were clear and bright, like two flawless cat's-eye stones.
Ye Ningwan felt uneasy under Li Mochuan's intense gaze.
A short while later, Li Mochuan suddenly chuckled softly.
"Ye Ningwan, your reason is so flawless that I can't find a single loophole."
Ye Ningwan breathed a sigh of relief.
But she apologized softly, looking rather guilty.
"I'm sorry, I was forced by circumstances. I didn't mean to target Pei Fengzhi. I just had no other choice."
Li Mochuan watched every subtle movement and expression of the woman in front of him, and suddenly interrupted Ye Ningwan.
"But I don't believe it!"
Ye Ningwan's heart, which had just been at ease, was instantly gripped high again by those few simple words.
