...As Ye Ningwan was inwardly complaining, Pei Fengzhi squeezed her palm.
The slightly pointed nail gently scraped across her palm, causing a slight itch.
"I'm going back."
Ye Ningwan pushed the wheelchair without complaint, and the two of them had just entered the bedroom.
After closing the door, Ye Ningwan immediately made an excuse and turned back to Pei Fengzhi with a smile.
"I haven't washed up yet. Wait a minute, I'll be done and then we'll go downstairs for breakfast."
She couldn't wait to escape from this man's side immediately.
She had heard of Pei Fengzhi's reputation as a living devil, but since he woke up, he had been so gentle to her. When they were alone together, Ye Ningwan always felt a chill run down her spine.
But before she could take more than a few steps, her wrist was grabbed by the other person.
Pei Fengzhi's voice was still so gentle and tender.
No rush.
But... I'm in a hurry.
Pei Fengzhi looked at her with a smile, without saying a word, but his actions were very forceful.
After struggling in vain, Ye Ningwan could only helplessly be dragged back to Pei Fengzhi's side.
She lowered her head and stood obediently in front of Pei Fengzhi, letting him gently stroke the skin on the inside of her wrist.
Pei Fengzhi's constant bowing and silence was incredibly oppressive, almost suffocating Ye Ningwan. She mustered her courage and forcefully pulled her hand back, touching the goosebumps on her arm as she forced a smile at Pei Fengzhi.
"Ninth Master, did I do something wrong that made you unhappy?"
She blinked innocently and said to Pei Fengzhi with a very aggrieved expression.
"I didn't do it on purpose. Pei Minghao provoked me first. I've always had a bad temper, but he deserved it, so I won't admit my mistake!"
Pei Fengzhi chuckled softly and spoke gently to Ye Ningwan.
"It was his fault to begin with. You went too far. If it were me, I would have lost my tongue by the time he said those words."
Even though he was smiling and stroking the Bodhi prayer beads on his wrist, the words he spoke were terrifying.
Ye Ningwan finally witnessed what it meant to have "a face like Buddha, a heart like Asura".
Her laughter froze, and she quietly took a few steps back, lowering her head and not daring to look at him again.
"Oh, I'm glad you're not angry. I thought I had caused you trouble."
Pei Fengzhi shook his head.
"I won't get angry with you over something so trivial, but Ye Ningwan, I really want to know why you chose to leave me this way?"
Ye Ningwan was startled. She suddenly looked up and met Pei Fengzhi's narrowed phoenix eyes, his dark pupils carrying a dangerous aura.
She stammered for a moment.
"No... I didn't... Is there... some misunderstanding?"
Pei Fengzhi slowly turned his wheelchair, gradually approaching Ye Ningwan who was silently retreating.
“I’ve investigated you. Although you have a bad temper, you’re not stupid. Now that you’re in the Pei family, the Pei family is not one you can afford to offend right now. You know that very well.”
"So even if you've been wronged and are about to lash out, you don't have to act like you're ready to take the third young master of the Pei family down with you."
"You don't really want to die. You just want to offend the now powerful eldest branch of the Pei family and then leave me, is that right?"
Pei Fengzhi's every word hit Ye Ningwan's target, forcing Ye Ningwan to back down.
Finally, with a thud.
Ye Ningwan's back hit the window. In a panic, she grabbed the curtains and wrapped them around herself, leaving only her head sticking out as she sobbed.
"I really didn't! Honey, you've misunderstood me. I just heard that scumbag Pei Minghao cursing at you and making lewd jokes at me. I was furious!"
Ye Ningwan's small face was scrunched up, her dark cat-like eyes were watery, and she looked pitiful, as if she would cry if Pei Fengzhi misunderstood her again.
Seeing her pitiful state, Pei Fengzhi chuckled softly, neither confirming nor denying that he believed her.
"Now you call me 'husband' instead of 'Ninth Master'?"
Ye Ningwan was taken aback. Like a little animal, she obediently moved closer to Pei Fengzhi's feet, tilted her head up, and looked at him with sincere eyes.
"I just think it's more affectionate to call my husband that. Aren't we husband and wife?"
Everyone thought that even if Pei Fengzhi woke up from his vegetative state, he would be nothing more than a useless cripple. Only Ye Ningwan knew in her heart that this man was very dangerous.
It's the kind of danger you can't afford to offend.
Pei Fengzhi's beautiful fingers pinched Ye Ningwan's chin and gently lifted it, her pitiful appearance reflected in his deep, tender black eyes.
He seemed to love her very much, yet his gaze was so calm.
"Then take off your clothes."
"ah?"
Ye Ningwan's expression froze instantly. She even thought she had misheard and asked incredulously.
"What...what did you say?"
Pei Fengzhi naturally did not repeat what he had just said. He simply looked at Ye Ningwan with a half-smile and said gently.
"Aren't we husband and wife?"
Ye Ningwan swallowed hard, instantly feeling like she was caught in a dilemma.
Between dignity and life, what should she choose? That is the question.
Ye Ningwan stared at Pei Fengzhi's exquisite and perfect face for a long time before finally making up her mind to stand up.
"Okay, I'll take it off!"
So what if he's a pervert? He's still a pervert whose every trait is perfectly aligned with his own aesthetic!
She didn't lose out!
Just as Ye Ningwan hooked one finger around the thin strap of her nightgown, preparing to be completely naked with Pei Fengzhi, an untimely knock sounded again at the door.
Ye Ningwan paused, her eyes questioning Pei Fengzhi.
Pei Fengzhi said calmly.
"Ignore it, let's continue."
Ye Ningwan remained silent.
So, is the knocking on the door also part of this play?
Just as Ye Ningwan was thinking this, the knocking suddenly stopped, followed by a stern middle-aged man's voice.
"Ninth Master, the old master sent me to invite you."
Disturbed like this, Pei Fengzhi frowned in displeasure, but he would never give face to anyone, and he absolutely could not disrespect the old man.
He could only respond to the person at the door.
"Wait five minutes."
Hearing this, Ye Ningwan finally breathed a sigh of relief and fled into the changing room.
"I'll change my clothes right away!"
Pei Fengzhi looked at the door that closed in front of him, listened to the crisp sound of the lock clicking shut, and his eyes darkened slightly.
Suddenly, I remembered the leather-bound diary I had found by chance in the study.
That was his diary, which contained scattered notes about events that had happened over the years. In a few strokes, he mentioned a woman, though he didn't explicitly say who she was, he did mention that she had a bright red birthmark in the middle of her spine.
Pei Fengzhi lowered his eyelids slightly, his long, thick eyelashes casting shadows.
Could that woman be Ye Ningwan?
