...Just as Old Master Pei was about to say something, a voice suddenly rang out in the long-silent tea room.
"I disagree with the divorce!"
Grandpa Pei looked up and gazed in the direction where Ye Ningwan was standing, his expression becoming even more gloomy and somber.
"Ninth Brother..."
Pei Fengzhi stepped forward, put his arm around Ye Ningwan's shoulder, and forcefully pulled her into his arms. He lowered his eyelids slightly and glanced at Old Master Pei sitting in front of him.
"I do not agree to a divorce."
The few clear and simple words made Old Master Pei suddenly stop speaking.
Old Master Pei silently returned Pei Fengzhi's gaze, trying hard to suppress the anger in his heart.
Although Pei Fengzhi's face seemed calm and undisturbed, his current state was like a calm sea concealing countless black whirlpools and an imminent volcano. Once it erupted, it would churn the entire sea into nothingness. Blindly going against the tide would only leave him not even knowing how he died.
Therefore, even Old Master Pei had to give way to him.
The atmosphere in the tea room became stagnant; even the air seemed to freeze.
Pei Fengzhi tightened his grip on Ye Ningwan's shoulder slightly.
Ye Ningwan frowned subconsciously and made a sound of humming.
"pain……"
She struggled but couldn't move. She raised her head and looked pitifully at Pei Fengzhi beside her, her eyes glistening with tears.
Pei Fengzhi gently brushed his fingertips across Ye Ningwan's slightly reddened eyes. His voice was as gentle as ever, yet it sent shivers down the spines of those who heard it.
"Honey, I didn't hear you clearly. What did you say you wanted to do with me?"
Ye Ningwan turned her face away, puffed out her cheeks, and said with extreme dissatisfaction.
"Didn't you just hear everything? And you refused. Now you're asking me again, are you trying to scare me?"
Pei Fengzhi chuckled, pinched her chin, and forced her to look up at him.
"Didn't you scare me first, baby?"
Ye Ningwan snorted, the redness at the corners of her eyes deepening, and tears welled up from the pain in her jaw and shoulder.
"Who am I doing this for? How dare you insult me! Let go, it hurts so much!"
Pei Fengzhi loosened his grip on his hand slightly, but his tone didn't improve at all; instead, it became much colder.
"That's why I didn't touch you, but baby, if you say things like that too often, you'll get bullied until you cry when you get home."
Pei Fengzhi slowly moved closer to Ye Ningwan until his thin, cold lips touched her earlobe, making Ye Ningwan shiver involuntarily. She didn't know if it was because of the other person's temperature or because of the words he whispered in her ear.
Ye Ningwan bit her lip and finally fell silent.
Seeing that she had finally behaved herself, Pei Fengzhi pressed down the slight curve of his lips.
His beloved wife may have become more obedient, but her heart has never been honest. She always thinks of all sorts of reasons and excuses to find an opportunity to divorce him, all while claiming it's all for his sake.
hehe.
Do you really think he'll believe that?
But he just happened to like this cunning little cat so much that he wanted to keep her by his side forever, no matter what means he used—whether it was threats, bribes, or seduction that made her heart flutter.
As long as she stays by his side.
As long as this consensus on balance remains unbroken, they will enjoy a peaceful and comfortable life together.
As for what awaits Ye Ningwan when this balance is broken one day, whether it will be towers and chains or flowers and rings, that depends on Ye Ningwan's own choice.
But we still need to coax them now.
Pei Fengzhi released his grip on Ye Ningwan's chin, ruffled her hair, and whispered.
"I'll handle it. You don't need to worry about the rest. It's not your fault."
Ye Ningwan didn't speak, but just gave a soft hum.
Pei Fengzhi said to Old Master Pei.
"That's all for today. Just pretend you didn't hear what Wanwan said earlier, Grandpa. After all, this kind of thing isn't something she can decide on her own."
Pei Fengzhi didn't mention how to resolve the matter afterward, as if he had simply let it go, and then put his arm around Ye Ningwan and prepared to leave.
"Little Star has a parent-teacher meeting at kindergarten this afternoon, so Wanwan and I are leaving now."
As soon as the tea room door opened, Pei Fengzhi and Ye Ningwan were greeted by Madam Pei the Second, who was standing at the door.
Madam Pei smiled as she looked at the two of them. Her cheekbones were already high, and when she smiled, the bones on both sides appeared even more prominent, making it seem as if her eyes disappeared.
Pei Fengzhi was much taller than her, and when he looked down at her, it was as if he were looking down at her from a superior position.
He was already in a bad mood, and seeing someone he didn't want to see made his aura even more chilling.
"Get out of the way."
Madam Pei's forehead was covered in cold sweat, but she still managed to force a smile.
"It seems I've arrived at the right time. Luckily, Ninth Brother hasn't left yet."
Pei Fengzhi asked impatiently.
"What's up?"
"Nothing special happened, but I heard that something happened to my sister-in-law, so I came to check on her."
Pei Fengzhi didn't say anything, but simply walked around Madam Pei and prepared to leave.
The Pei family members are not like ordinary families, with friendly and supportive siblings. After all, they didn't all come from the same mother's womb, and there's also the struggle for inheritance. Who can be on good terms with whom?
Even if they seem to have a good relationship on the surface, it's mostly just for show for Old Master Pei, or a temporary alliance for the sake of mutual benefit.
As for Pei Fengzhi, he was even less inclined to maintain any semblance of harmony with these so-called "brothers and sisters."
