Infected at the start and exiled to the City of Strange Species.
Octopus extended its tentacles: What is this? Let's suck it!
Goat extended its hooves: What is this? Let's suck ...
Gu Li wasn't in a good mood when she got up for work the next day. She seemed to have had a nightmare last night, and the strong sense of loss that lingered after waking up made her sit in bed in a daze for a while before finally wiping her face and getting up.
Today is her first official day at work, so it's best not to be late.
As her pale, slender ankles touched the ground, Gu Li suddenly heard a knock on the door downstairs. She quickly stood at the window in her slippers and looked down, meeting Eric's gaze, who was wearing a dark black dress today.
She skillfully ignored the enormous head and its dozens of demonic eyes that occasionally appeared in front of her, naturally choosing the one that was better for her eyes.
Gu Li leaned against the windowsill and waved to him, saying, "Good morning, Eric. Wait for me."
After she finished packing, there wasn't much to pack anyway; she only had the faded nightgown she was wearing. She quickly washed up and rushed downstairs to open the door.
She stepped aside to let Eric in, took out her only food from the kitchen cabinet, admired the beautiful image of the Child of Light on it as usual, put the bottle in her mouth, glanced at Eric, and mumbled, "Weren't I supposed to go to work by myself today?"
Eric sat down on the dilapidated sofa that he had managed to tidy up downstairs, his back always ramrod straight, and the sofa creaked out.
It added a touch of comicality to the elegant, upright posture of the lamb's hoof.
Without changing his expression, he handed the suitcase to Gu Li: "There are very few clothes suitable for a girl like you in the areas where we trade. I have already sent someone to buy some from a more distant place, but it may take some time."
"Until then, you'll have to make do with these. Don't worry, they've never been worn before."
Gu Li's eyes lit up upon hearing this. Without any hesitation, he took the briefcase, patted Eric on the shoulder, and mumbled with a nutrient solution in his mouth, "I'm fine with anything, thanks."
Eric nodded, stood up and picked up his cane. Gu Li then noticed that the Goat Hoof Man was wearing a silver cane that matched his little dress, and it actually suited his style quite well.
Eric walked toward the door: "You did very well yesterday. I think you'll adapt to the job quickly. Today it's my turn to be on duty with Wang. It's time for me to leave."
Gu Li picked up the suitcase and decided to go upstairs to change her clothes. Watching his back, she suddenly remembered something and casually asked, "Eric, do you know where the underground street is?"
The goat-hoofed man stopped at the door and turned to look at Gu Li with a look that made her feel uneasy. She subconsciously took a step back: "Um, if there are any secrets, you don't have to tell me."
Eric's disapproving gaze made Gu Li break out in a cold sweat.
“The underground street is too dangerous for a newborn like you. The creatures that came to feed yesterday were just the most irrational creatures from the lowest level. You must promise me that you will not try to find your way to the underground street. It is hell for you right now.”
Gu Li breathed a sigh of relief and obediently nodded in response to Eric's gaze. She understood; she wasn't qualified for a high-level dungeon yet.
Undeterred, she asked with great interest, "So, what stage do we need to reach before we can go?"
“Miss, I don’t think you need to go…”
A voice interrupted: "Wait, Eric, you're acting like a worried old mother, when in fact our Miss Gu Li is way past the age of breastfeeding."
Eric's voice deepened as he looked over: "Levy."
Levi, who walked in waving his tentacles, seemed very happy to see Eric suffer a setback. Even the tentacles on his body became more active. He said in a light voice, "You probably don't know what happened last night. When I was escorting Miss home, I ran into Dark Tide."
Upon hearing this, the sheep-hoofed man quickly glanced at Gu Li from head to toe, his voice low and angry: "You should have told me about this immediately."
Levi reached out his main wrist to pat Eric's shoulder, but was blocked by the silver cane. He withdrew his wrist without a care, his tone somewhat excited: "Miss, you are indeed a good child who can still maintain your rationality even after being corrupted by the King. The power you showed last night was simply amazing."
"It's just an underground street. Why not wait until Miss has gained power and passed my test before going?"
Eric paused for a moment, glanced at the brass pocket watch on the goat's hoof, and strode out, his tone leaving no room for doubt: "Then I'll be the one to conduct the assessment. It's getting late, Levi, you should get to work."
"Alright, alright."
Levi, who had been taken away by Eric, waved his wrist and tossed something to Gu Li: "Here, this is a gift for you. Goodbye."
As their deep and flamboyant voices faded into the distance, Gu Li could hardly believe, based solely on their voices, that they were now terrifying non-human beings. Looking down at the object in his hand, he saw that it was a cross with a sapphire set in the very center.
The tentacles felt heavy and metallic. She hesitated, then grasped the short side of the cross and examined it. It didn't resemble a traditional prayer cross; rather, it seemed more like a weapon that could injure someone.
The cross was far too heavy for Gu Lila. She placed it on her lap and examined it closely. When she touched the short side, there was a click, and a short sword was pulled out from the short side of the cross by her gripping the hilt.
Her eyes lit up, and she followed the same method, feeling around at the top of the cross for a moment before drawing out a long, silver-white sword with intricate patterns carved on its hilt.
Gu Li couldn't understand it, but that didn't stop her from liking this ingeniously designed weapon.
Half an hour later, Gu Li, dressed in the same dress as Eric and with a long sword at her waist, stood on the dock. The dock, which had been damaged yesterday, had been repaired overnight, and a small black dot could be faintly seen on the dark sea.
She stepped aside, her legs encased in off-white stockings, to make way for her dark-clad porters, waiting for them to finish unloading before registering and distributing the goods.
On the unmanned cargo ship in the distance, a figure quietly climbed from the bridge to the top of the ship and crouched under the railing with the lightest movement she had ever made. This simple action made her forehead break out in a cold sweat, for fear of disturbing anything on the ship.
He Wei once again secretly cursed herself for not listening and running around in Zone 1. Now, her temporary hiding place had carried her for two hours, and she still didn't know where the ship was headed!
Worse still, she discovered that there must be some kind of pollution on the ship that has not yet appeared, otherwise there would be no way to explain why the ship was unmanned!
She peeked out from between the rusty railings, wanting to quickly find out where she was so she could have someone come and take her back.
But the moment they saw it clearly, their eyes widened in fear.
She could hear her teeth chattering slightly, at the city surrounded by blackness.
It's definitely a city of aliens.
