Infected at the start and exiled to the City of Strange Species.
Octopus extended its tentacles: What is this? Let's suck it!
Goat extended its hooves: What is this? Let's suck ...
Each level of pollution represents the strength level of the alien species, ranging from level one to five. As an exile and even the area closest to the Death Plains, their pollution level is consistently level five.
Level 5 is a safe level, and occasionally a lucky person will be randomly selected to perform a live, unusual version of the birth of the Virgin Mary.
Level 4 pollution is caused by the accumulation of small amounts over time. Too many lower species are born in an area, or large animals pass through, leaving behind Level 4 pollution.
Level 3 pollution is considered a general danger, typically characterized by clusters of lower-level species and one to ten deaths.
Level 2 pollution is dangerous, indicating the appearance of lower-level or higher alien species known as missionaries. These species bring large amounts of pollution with extremely strong polluting abilities, typically resulting in the deaths of ten to several thousand people.
Contamination level one is extremely dangerous, indicating the appearance of alien species of missionary rank or higher. These are called familiars or clans, and it is said that those who have seen them either go mad or die.
And they usually have the ability to destroy a city.
As for their relatives, Xu Feihe had once heard his retired superior accidentally let slip that those guys were called advanced species and possessed human intelligence.
When Xu Feihe first heard this, she was shocked, but a different thought arose in her mind.
But when he asked again, his boss pretended to be stupid and refused to answer. After the old boss was killed by the alien species before he retired, Xu Feihe never asked those naive questions again.
He understood perfectly well that this was a world where alien species and humans were naturally on opposite sides, and the final outcome would either be the slaughter of all humans or the extermination of all alien species.
Even if those advanced species really exist, it only proves that this messed-up world is one step closer to the end of the world.
Xu Feihe took a deep breath. Having been transferred to work in Zone 1 for eight years, this was the first time he had encountered Level 1 pollution, or rather, the first time he had encountered Level 2 or higher pollution.
The veins on his forehead throbbed, and as the elevator doors opened, Xu Feihe's voice was hoarse as he struggled to remain calm.
"...This is already a level one contaminated area. Ning Jia, I'll count to three. Take her and escape through the window. Our car is right below. Get out of here quickly."
"This is not something that a few of us can handle."
The female team member's name was Ning Jia. When she heard "Level 1," she seemed to have encountered something extremely terrifying, and her body stiffened as she stood between the two elevator doors.
It was Gu Li behind her who gave her a push, preventing her from getting her foot caught in the door. Ning Jia came to her senses, tugged at the corner of her lips, and immediately turned around to grab Gu Li's shoulders, pulling her into her arms.
Gu Li heard her voice tremble slightly: "Hehe, you dog Xu Feihe, if you're lying to me, you're dead."
As Ning Jia spoke, her body was already preparing to crash into the glass window.
Gu Li glanced at the closed bedroom door on the top floor with her calm blue eyes, then looked at the wide lawn outside and the sky filled with clouds, and surprisingly said nothing.
She followed Ning Jia's movements and ran towards the window.
Xu Feihe raised his gun. Even though his life was about to end today, his hands, which had been through countless battles, were still damnably steady.
He opened his mouth softly: "Three."
With a click, he cocked the gun.
"two."
Xu Feihe walked to within three meters of the door, stopped, and hid behind the only cover, a vase as tall as a person.
"one."
As he counted to the last note, he pulled the trigger, and the doorway, blasted open by the powerful impact, revealed a dark and menacing interior.
The windows also shattered at the same time.
Xu Feihe saw something slowly wriggling in the darkness that filled the entire room, and her eyes went blank for a moment.
His reason prevented his brain from continuing to analyze, but his brain gave the answer in less than a second: those things that looked particularly pale, sticky, cold and soft in the darkness were human corpses.
They were cold yet lingering, like a giant, segmented snake, weaving and slithering through the room. They were evil, corruption, and distortion itself. Xu Feihe's gaze gradually became unfocused.
In a daze, he met a face that was extremely terrified.
The face, which bore a resemblance to Duran's, trembled as he turned to Xu Feihe for help.
"Help me...help me...help me..."
The voice was like a spell, tightly binding Xu Feihe's reason, and his face under the mask seemed to become as soft and cold as those monsters.
Xu Feihe was trapped in a thick, dark dream, in which his deceased former boss gave him a pale, eerie smile.
"The advanced species is... it's us!"
He struggled out of fear, clenching his fists. The button in his palm was pressed, and a huge steel needle suddenly popped out from his uniform waist.
It suddenly pierced through his entire waist and abdomen.
This was their last line of defense in the face of life and death; the excruciating pain, enough to kill them, brought him back to his senses before his body underwent any abnormal changes.
As a trace of starlight was injected into his body through the steel needle, Xu Feihe gasped for breath, drenched in sweat. A breeze carrying the scent of grass blew in through the broken window, and he realized that he was indeed not dead yet.
The peaceful atmosphere outside the window and the terrifying atmosphere just a wall away made Xu Feihe feel a little disconnected.
He finally understood why this measure was called a self-rescue technique that could only be used once in a lifetime.
Once you've experienced the pain of being stabbed in the back, especially twice at once, who would have the courage to go through it again?
The steel needles in Xu Feihe's body caused him immense pain with every step he took, and the cold sweat on his face soaked his mask.
