The two rode their donkeys to catch up with the carriage. Tian Yu and Xiao Ju sat in the carriage, while Chen Chong rode his donkey behind, not forgetting to take the packages from the carriage as well. Tian Yu saw his angry expression when he took the packages but didn't dare to ask, perhaps he didn't want her to see what they were. The donkey, however, was quite obedient to Chen Chong, and it returned home peacefully.

After returning home, Tian Yu told the children not to tell anyone yet, and that she would figure out a solution. Then they all went home. After lunch, Tian Yu asked Tang Yuan to stay home and watch the house while she and Chen Chong took Xiao Ju to see the village head. After explaining the situation, the village head told Tian Yu that she shouldn't have done this, as it would cause trouble. However, he still helped find three elders from Lao Zhao Village to act as witnesses, and also called Shuang'er's grandmother and Gouzi's grandmother.

Sure enough, as soon as Grandma Shuang'er saw Ju, she started hitting and scolding her. In the end, she wouldn't listen to any explanations and just grabbed Ju, telling her to leave with the human traffickers and never come back. Ju cried and begged, but it was no use.

Tian Yu took out the indenture Chen Chong had given him, told Shuang'er's grandmother what had happened, and said that from now on Xiao Ju was her daughter and no one could bully her.

Grandma Shuang'er wouldn't listen and started cursing Tian Yu again, even bringing up the incident with Zhao Sibao from last time, cursing along with it—you can imagine how awful it was. Chen Chong wanted to step forward to stop her, but Tian Yu stopped him with a look. To Tian Yu's surprise, Grandma Gouzi actually stepped forward and slapped Grandma Shuang'er twice. Only then did Grandma Shuang'er stop cursing, crying and saying, "Older sister, are you going to side with an outsider and bully me?"

“Little sister, you are so ungrateful. Tian Yu meant well. Why don’t you think about it? If your granddaughter were to end up with human traffickers, what kind of good life would she have? She would either end up in a brothel or become a concubine for some old man in his seventies or eighties. But with Tian Yu, she can grow up well and you can see her often.”

"What can I do? If I don't buy her, what will Xiaobao eat and drink? If I give her to Tian Yu, she can't even raise her own son. She's an unwanted daughter-in-law. Xiao Ju would be better off as a concubine than with her. I can't see any peace of mind." Grandma Shuang'er cried, and Grandma Gouzi was speechless with anger after hearing her words.

"The human traffickers have already sold Xiaoju to me. I'm just here to let you know, hoping you won't hurt Xiaoju again in the future."

“If you say it’s yours, then it’s yours. I’m her grandma.”

"Village head and elders of Zhao Village, I hope you can be my witnesses. This is Xiaoju's indenture. As I just explained, from today onwards, Xiaoju is my child, Tianyu's child. I hope her grandmother will not interfere in Xiaoju's affairs in the future. As for whether I can afford to raise her, Tianyu swears again that as long as I have a breath left, I will not let Xiaoju go hungry or suffer. Of course, if Xiaoju does not want to come with me, I will not force her and will return her immediately. Today's events will be considered as if they never happened, and I will not ask for the money spent. I will never interfere in this matter again."

The village head and the three elders looked at each other and nodded in agreement. The village head then said, "Grandma Shuang'er, don't cry anymore. Since Tian Yu has already bought your granddaughter, it's legal. It's understandable that she didn't tell you. Now that she's kindly informing you and giving you a chance, you should do what you think is best and ask your granddaughter if she still wants to go back with you."

Xiaoju was a sensible child. She clung to Tianyu's clothes and refused to let go, no matter how her grandmother tried to persuade her. Finally, she cried out, "I don't want to go with you. I want to stay with my aunt. I don't want to go back."

Grandma Gouzi pulled Grandma Shuang'er away. Tian Yu squatted down, patted her, and whispered a few words of comfort. Xiao Ju stopped crying and obediently tugged at Tian Yu's clothes, looking down at the ground. Grandma Shuang'er, persuaded by Grandma Gouzi, accepted the situation but repeatedly emphasized that she shouldn't ask them for help in the future. Feeling that they were, after all, grandmother and granddaughter, she hoped Tian Yu could prepare a dowry for her so she could marry well. Tian Yu agreed to everything. Seeing that the matter was resolved, the village head sent the elders home one by one. Chen Chong also took his leave, whispering as he passed Tian Yu, "I'm going home to check on Tangyuan. Don't worry."

Tian Yu nodded slightly and glanced at him. She was really worried about Tangyuan after not being home for so long, but thankfully Chen Chong understood her. Seeing that everyone had left, Grandma Gouzi helped Grandma Shuang'er back home, giving Tian Yu a reassuring look as she left. Now she understood why the village head had invited Grandma Gouzi; everyone has their match.

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Tian Yu approached Wen Hong to ask if Xiao Ju could stay at their house for a few days until the house was finished. Wen Hong agreed, saying she was happy to help, but needed to discuss it with her family. Zhao Jinxiu wasn't there, and the village head, after seeing everyone off, agreed upon hearing the situation. Tian Yu said she just needed to find Xiao Ju a place to sleep that night, and she would take care of her during the day. After agreeing, Tian Yu led Xiao Ju away.

When they got home, the workers had almost finished demolishing the house. Tangyuan ran over and hugged Tianyu, asking, "Mommy, did they bully you?"

"No, look, I'm perfectly fine." Tian Yu squatted down and patted Tangyuan's head.

"Then why did you take so long? Tangyuan was so worried about Mother."

"I'm sorry, it's all my fault for making Tangyuan worry, but I've brought you back a little sister." Tian Yu said, waving to Xiao Ju who was following behind.

"Xiaoju, come here quickly. I saw on the indenture that you are half a year younger than Tangyuan. From now on, you will be Tangyuan's little sister, and Tangyuan will be his big brother. Do you like it?"

"Yes, I like it. From now on, Tangyuan will be your older brother. Tangyuan will take good care of his little sister," Tangyuan said to Xiaoju with a smile.

Xiaoju stared at the glutinous rice ball for a long time, then smiled and whispered "Brother," and the two of them laughed again. Tianyu laughed along with them. Chen Chong watched the three of them laughing happily and felt that stopping the carriage and buying Xiaoju was the right thing to do.
