Chapter 157 Crisis in the Dark

The azure light has a wide field of vision, so even though Xi Xi was at the back of the group, she could clearly illuminate the road ahead.

The surrounding road was quite different from the view Xi Xi had seen at night through the synesthetic chain ring. She felt the dampness more deeply and the mossy stone steps that were very easy to slip on.

The sewage flow here seemed much more rapid than in the previous area, and the sound of the water was also much louder, temporarily obscuring much of what was happening.

Sallyman, who was walking at the front, accidentally kicked a pebble, startling two bats hanging from the ceiling. She immediately cried out, and the three of them instinctively covered their heads and hid.

All that could be heard was the flapping of bat wings as it flew by, accompanied by gusts of water, before disappearing into the darkness behind them.

Xi Xi lowered the brim of her hat and glanced thoughtfully at the spot where the bat had disappeared.

"There seems to be something ahead?" Sallyman whispered, bringing Xi Xi back to her senses.

Xi Xi looked up at the faint shadows of the stone statues in the distance, thinking to herself, "We've finally arrived." She then nudged Chu Zhiqin, signaling them to hurry up and move forward.

With the help of the light, Xi Xi was able to see the stone statue clearly.

Looking at it from eye level, the stone statue appears even larger than it does from the little white duck's perspective, making it hard for passersby not to notice it.

At the foot of the stone statue, water flowed gently. Surprisingly, in just a few hours, this spot seemed to have blocked a lot of new trash, and something among them was faintly shimmering with an unusual light.

Xi's mother also noticed the flashing object. Although the light was faint, it was particularly eye-catching. Upon closer inspection, it seemed to be a bag.

However, the water flowing on both sides of the stone statue was filthy and emitted a foul odor, which made people hesitate.

Chu Zhiqin looked around, trying to find some tools to use as stepping stones, but apart from scattered pebbles, there was nothing else around.

Sallyman, however, was not afraid at all. She was an excellent swimmer and didn't care even when faced with sewage mixed with garbage. At most, she would poke some holes in an empty bottle and use it as a makeshift showerhead to rinse herself off.

She stepped forward, eager to try, and stepped into the filthy water. Using her longsword for support, she struggled to hook the glowing bag back.

She climbed onto the embankment, picked up the garbage bag stuck to her trouser leg, and threw it back into the water.

Just as Sallyman was about to show Chu Zhiqin the glowing item in her hand, Xi Xi, who had been lagging behind, suddenly grabbed her clothes.

She had some doubts, turned to look at Xi Xi, and then turned her gaze to the back.

It was pitch black behind her, but by the light emanating from the blue mushroom soup, she could vaguely see a few blurry black figures, and a look of fear flashed in her eyes.

"Big brother, they seem to have spotted us," a short, stout man whispered. Unfortunately, the sewer was too open, and his voice echoed loudly.

A tall, thin man beside him immediately covered his mouth.

"Idiot!" The middle-aged man called "Big Brother" grabbed the hilt of his knife and swung it at his henchman. He stopped hiding and walked straight toward Xi Xi and the other two.

The middle-aged man had an oily face covered in stubble, wore a wrinkled long-sleeved shirt with the collar slightly rolled up, and his trousers were also loose and baggy with some mud on the legs, making him look quite disheveled.

He was wearing a pair of old slippers, the uppers of which were yellowed and the soles were worn out.

Chu Zhiqin, who had been standing silently to the side, quietly stepped forward and stood in front of the two young girls, facing the three men with fierce expressions and weapons in their hands.

These three men appear quite different in appearance, but upon closer inspection, their facial features are strangely similar.

The greasy middle-aged man standing in the middle was pot-bellied and had thinning hair. He held an extremely sharp long knife in his hand, and his eyes were full of ferocity.

One side had a short, stout man with a buzz cut and a fierce look, but he was holding an ordinary-looking long stick in his hand; the other side had a tall, thin man with a half-smile, one hand in his pocket, as if he was hiding something shady.

"Hand over the supplies, and we'll spare your lives!" the greasy middle-aged man in the lead threatened the resolute Chu Zhiqin viciously.

Chu Zhiqin frowned, a surge of anger rising in her heart. Sallyman was also clearly disgusted by the blatant threat. She cautiously reached for the sword at her waist and peeked out from behind Chu Zhiqin.

The greasy middle-aged man was stunned, clearly shocked by Sallyman's stunningly beautiful face.

Her short blonde hair accentuated her striking features, making it hard to ignore the fury burning in her beautiful eyes.

“Oh ho, there’s a foreign girl here…” the short, fat henchman suddenly clicked his tongue and looked Sallyman up and down with a lewd look. He then exchanged a glance with the tall, thin man next to him and revealed a malicious smile.

Xi's mother became even angrier. She shielded Shaliman behind her, and Shaliman froze, looking at Xi's mother in disbelief.

"Old woman, get out of the way! This is none of your business!" The tall, thin man who had been vigilantly observing the surrounding terrain suddenly pulled out a shiny black pistol from his pocket as if by magic.

The dark muzzle of the gun was pointed directly at Chu Zhiqin, as if it would fire a deadly bullet at any moment.

The man's tone revealed a nonchalant yet chilling ruthlessness: "Listen up, I advise you not to even think about running away. Hand over all your supplies!"

Chu Zhiqin, who had always been law-abiding, had never seen such a gangster-like demeanor before. Her previously composed face instantly turned ashen white, devoid of any color.
