Chapter 252 Fighting the Extreme Cold

Xi Xi picked up the golden lucky bag from which she had just taken out the heating talisman, and reached inside to take out a whole stack of talismans.

She glanced at the time displayed on the central control screen: 23:41. She exclaimed in surprise, quickly pulled out the conspicuous purple-gilded coupon, and lit it.

"I tied the traction rope of the Treasure Magnet to the roadside guardrail! Now I'm not afraid!" Chu Zhiqin rubbed her hands as she returned to the car, her eyelashes still covered with thick snowflakes.

Just as she stepped out of the car, the biting wind caught her, almost making Chu Zhiqin lose her balance. But she gritted her teeth and began clearing the snow around the car with a small shovel.

The snow was so thick that she struggled to clear even a small patch. Without winter tires and snow chains, the wheels had difficulty gripping the ground, so Chu Zhiqin worked hard to tighten the tow rope and secure the vehicle.

“This time you listen to your mother. You really can’t take this risk and drive recklessly. Look at the sea, there are ice floes everywhere. If you slip and fall in, it will definitely be a fatal accident… Ptooey, ptooey, ptooey! Amitabha…”

Xi Xi patted the snow off her mother and nodded: "It's okay, Mom. I've thought it all through. I'll take the gamble; it shouldn't be a big problem."

"What are you betting on? You're going to keep driving?! No, no, no, Mom's telling you this..."

"No, don't overthink it." Xi Xi chuckled and handed a hot towel to her mother, saying softly, "Let's just wait here for a few more minutes."

Time passed second by second, and the wind and snow howled outside the car window, pounding heavily against the glass.

The radiators inside the RV hummed and expanded, keeping out the chill. Chu Zhiqin curled up in the passenger seat, holding a steaming cup of coffee.

The snow on the windshield had thickened again, and occasionally a gust of wind would whip up hard snowflakes that slapped against the glass, making a "crackling" sound, like countless tiny ice needles trying to pierce through the barrier.

The car windows became mere decorations; Xi Xi drew all the curtains to minimize the car's visibility to the outside world.

She then sat back in the driver's seat, staring intently at the monitoring screen displayed by the All-View Guardian on the central control screen, her brow furrowed.

On the screen, the blizzard continued to rage, with visibility almost zero. The central control screen's reporting system updated the data every ten minutes: "Current outdoor temperature is -52 degrees Celsius, wind speed is level 8, and visibility is less than 10 meters."

Hearing the temperature gradually drop, Chu Zhiqin's heart skipped a beat: "This temperature isn't actually that low in the harsh winter of the north." She said softly, as if comforting herself, or perhaps comforting her daughter.

"Do you remember Aunt Wang who played cards with me? She's from Harbin, and I heard she's survived temperatures as low as minus sixty degrees Celsius in previous years." Chu Zhiqin had barely finished speaking when she hurriedly added, "Let's just stay put and not wander off!"

Xi Xi didn't respond. She understood what her mother meant; she was afraid that her mother was thinking about driving again.

However, this number is not uncommon in the harsh winter of the north, but it becomes a different story when a blizzard strikes.

At minus fifty degrees Celsius, exposed skin can be frostbitten in just a few seconds, and outside, apart from the wind and snow, it seems that even time is frozen.

Xi Xi got up and took out two packets of spicy beef instant noodles from the locker. The sound of tearing open the packaging was particularly clear in the quiet carriage.

When the kettle is plugged in, it emits a slight humming sound, and soon, steam rises from the spout.

"Mom, have something hot." She pushed the instant noodles in front of her mother, while she held another bowl herself, carefully blowing on it to cool it down.

It's not too bad; at least there's something to eat.

The warm air contrasted sharply with the biting cold outside the car. The aroma of instant noodles filled the air, a familiar and comforting scent that unconsciously eased one's mood.

The mother and daughter sat in front of the monitor, holding steaming bowls of noodles and eating slowly. The blizzard continued to rage in the monitor, and the image became blurry from time to time due to the interference of the wind and snow.

The blizzard was like an angry beast, wildly brandishing its claws and teeth, swallowing everything visible in endless white.

The wind and snow were raging, leaving only chaos in the world. Even the distant bridge had its outline stripped away by the snow, leaving only a blurry shadow.

But amidst this chaos, they could vaguely see some broken plastic bottles and a few tattered pieces of clothing torn by the wind, tumbling in the snow and wind, as if telling the story of another car encountering misfortune not far away.

"There might be another car accident." Xi Xi's voice was very calm.

Chu Zhiqin's heart tightened suddenly. She even felt like she was hallucinating, hearing a faint cry for help through the monitor, torn apart by the wind and snow, both real and unreal.

"Let's go take a look." Xi Xi put down the bowl of noodles in her hand.

"No!" Chu Zhiqin shouted, "Going out in this weather is suicide!"

Xi Xi was taken aback for a moment, then said with a wry smile, "No, I meant to switch to another surveillance camera to take a look."

She swiped two fingers across the monitor, looking around the RV in a 360-degree circle.

The wrecked vehicle could not be found, but Xi Xi could clearly see that the guardrail on the other side of the road was severely deformed.

Unexpectedly, even the sturdy guardrails became helpless toys under the ravages of the blizzard.

The guardrail there looked as if it had been lifted high and then fallen heavily by a blizzard, twisted and deformed severely, with the mottled paint peeling off and solidified with the snow on the bridge surface.
