Chapter 174 Duck Medes

"What kind of mess is this?"

Joey, who had just come out of Marshal Garp's room, was extremely depressed.

Joey arrived at the meeting of this big shot with a mix of nervousness and anticipation, revealing her identity as a time traveler. Instead of gaining any advantage, she was warned and threatened.

"What kind of orcs aren't from this world? That makes me feel like I'm the same as those orcs!"

Joey did not receive Field Marshal Garp's approval, nor was he directly rejected, but the meeting did leave him somewhat dissatisfied.

With that thought in mind, Joey walked back the way she came.

"Is that all?"

A figure suddenly emerged from the corridor and stood in front of Joey.

"Eileen? Didn't you leave?"

When Joey saw Eileen suddenly appear in front of him, he was a little surprised. After all, she was the one who didn't want to go with him to see Karp and wanted to leave early. Now that she was blocking his way, it was obvious that she hadn't left at all and was waiting here on purpose.

"Can't you come back after you leave? I'm just worried about you for Lady Catherine's sake."

Eileen took a feathered arrow from the quiver on her back and played with it in her hand, seemingly to hide her inability to lie.

Joey saw through her but didn't say anything, nor did he intend to expose her.

"Fine, then why are you stopping me?"

Joey is very depressed right now and just wants to leave this place as soon as possible.

"When did I stop you? The road is wide enough; you can walk wherever you want!"

Eileen is really bad at lying, and I don't know who made her force herself to come and question Joey.

"Oh, then I'll go that way!"

Without saying anything more, Joey walked directly to the right.

"Hey! Wait a minute!"

Joey had just passed by her when Eileen couldn't hold back any longer and quickly stopped him.

"What's up?"

What did Field Admiral Garp say to you?

"It's nothing, just to pay me the wages I owe, so I can work harder in the future!"

That's all?

"Is that all? Do you think there should be anything else?"

"How would I know? I didn't go in!"

"Why don't you go in now and ask to verify it?"

"Hmph, and I even helped you bring it in just now!"

Eileen seemed genuinely angry; she even broke the feathered arrow she was playing with in her hand.

"I really didn't say anything!"

Seeing Eileen's reaction, Joey changed his tone. After all, Eileen was a good person; she hadn't deliberately made things difficult for him and had indeed helped him earlier.

However, when Marshal Garp asked him about being a time traveler, he had no intention of revealing it now; the fewer people who knew about such things, the better!

"He also told me to protect Catherine and keep her out of danger!"

Joey figured out that Eileen was sent by Catherine to gather information, so he decided to say a few things that Catherine would like to hear. That way, Eileen could get her job done, and he could also gain some points.

"Okay, got it!"

Eileen threw the broken arrow out of the corridor and walked in the opposite direction.

Joey's frustration hadn't completely subsided, and seeing that Eileen had left, he continued walking back the way he came.

...

"Caw caw caw!"

As soon as I reached the door of my room, I heard a series of frantic quacking sounds coming from inside, where the door was already wide open.

"This Medes, duck wasn't on my ingredient list. Why did you bring me a duck? Are you planning to make me cook another dish?"

Joey's secret-recipe roast duck was planned for next time; there were no plans to make it this time. Medes has already learned to answer first.

"I'm back!"

Joey called out into the room, hoping for a hug, but with Leiflia in charge, he didn't dare to ask for anything more, only feeling that Medes would come out to greet him immediately.

To Joey's surprise, his foot was already dangling in mid-air as he prepared to step into the room, but Medes still didn't come out. Strangely, the three female elves also remained silent.

"I'm back!"

Joey tilted his head and shouted again at a higher volume.

"Caw caw caw!"

The only response he received was the quacking of ducks.

"Medes!"

Joey stormed into the room, shouting Medes' name.

"Caw caw caw!"

A very plump gray duck was being held upside down by Leviathan's legs, flapping its wings incessantly. As Joey entered the house, it strained to raise its neck toward him, as if seeking his help.

"What...what's going on?"

Joey stood at the doorway. As soon as he entered the house, he felt the oppressive atmosphere. He felt it was safer to stay at the door. If it weren't for the murderous look in Leiflia's eyes, he would have already left the house.

"Levia said this man knows about us, we can't let him get away!"

He glanced at Joey at the door and said with a hint of helplessness.

"Huh? This...this is Sergeant Medes?"

Joey stared at the gray duck in Leiflia's hand, utterly shocked.

He had just considered this duck as his meal for the day, but thankfully he didn't actually lay a hand on it, otherwise he might have really tried to kill it.

“Sergeant Medes? I don’t care about his name. I only remember telling you that we can’t let anyone else know we’re here!”

As she spoke, Levia threw Medusa at Joey. Medusa flapped its wings, trying to fly into Joey's arms, perhaps feeling safer in his embrace.
