What? I've Transmigrated, Yet I Still Have to Work?

Family, let me tell you something: I transmigrated, but it feels like I didn't fully! Except for this 21st-century brain, I brought nothing else over!

Other people transmigrate and either...

Chapter 2 It's not worth risking your life.

"Hey, big bearded man, don't work so hard! You're the one doing the most work!"

Joey leaned close to the bearded man and whispered to him to save his energy while working.

Although Joey was trying to persuade the bearded man, he didn't stop working on his own.

He swung his pickaxe at a large rock, but the rock only had a shallow groove punched in it and didn't crack, clearly showing that he was just going through the motions without putting in any real effort.

“But Joey, we’ve been working here for half a month already. At this rate, the bridge might not be finished this year!”

The bearded man swung his pickaxe again with all his might, and the boulder beneath his feet shattered with a crash.

"We're just laborers, and we have to slack off when it's time to slack off. We get two silver coins a day, and it's paid monthly. We haven't even seen the money yet!"

"What you just said is not what we should be thinking about. What we need to think about is when we can get the money and have a job that pays two silver coins a day long-term!"

Joey swung his pickaxe again, but the boulder beneath his feet remained motionless.

"Slacking off?"

"I've never touched a woman, but I have touched fish. I just don't quite understand what you're saying!"

"But I think what you're saying is definitely right, so I'll listen to you!"

The bearded man, who had initially looked puzzled, chuckled twice after hearing Joey's next words, and his pickaxe was now able to match Joey's strength as it fell.

"Clang clang clang..."

Beside this river is the place where Joey and Beard signed up to build the bridge half a month ago. Now, the sound of pickaxes hitting boulders can be heard everywhere, but the progress does not seem to be ideal.

"Dinner's ready!"

As soon as a shout rang out, the sound of the boulder being smashed instantly disappeared. More than a hundred people stopped what they were doing, picked up their pickaxes, and ran toward the direction of the sound.

"If you're not enthusiastic about eating, you've got a problem with your brain, you bearded guy, hurry up!"

Joey threw his pickaxe to the ground, called out to the bearded man, and ran ahead.

"Hey beautiful, same as always. I'll get the bearded man's portion for you, and don't let your spoon shake!"

Joey didn't carry the pickaxe; he ran with incredible speed, the first to reach the food area, where he fawned over the dwarf woman serving the food.

"Okay, okay, I got it!"

The cafeteria lady suppressed a smile as she peeled off a layer of shredded meat from the top of the dish and carefully placed it into the two large bowls that Joey was holding.

Joey, carrying two large bowls, didn't forget to blow a kiss to the cafeteria lady before walking towards the bearded man who arrived late, amidst the disdainful gazes of the others.

"Time to eat! Time to eat!"

Joey handed the bowl to the bearded man, then found a wooden post to sit on.

"Wow, so much meat again!"

The bearded man looked at the food in his bowl with a satisfied expression and began to scoop rice into his mouth with a large wooden spoon.

"Hey bearded guy, come with me to the bathroom after you finish eating!"

Joey picked up a piece of shredded meat, popped it into his mouth, and said something inappropriate.

"good!"

The bearded man didn't think too much about it. Every time after a meal, Joey would call him to relieve himself. In fact, many times he didn't even want to relieve himself, but Joey said so, so he went along.

"Hey beautiful, could you please tell your husband we need to use the restroom?"

Joey and the bearded man carried their empty bowls back to the cafeteria lady; they were the last two to return their bowls.

"I know, when do you two ever not go to the bathroom after eating?"

The dwarf woman chuckled and waved for them to hurry up and go.

"Only a beautiful woman truly understands my heart!"

After saying that, Joey blew her a kiss.

The dwarf woman laughed heartily, holding an empty bowl.

After leaving the group, Joey and Big Beard ventured into a dense forest. After walking for about five or six minutes, Joey found a relatively flat patch of grass and lay down.

"Big Beard, hurry up and get half an hour of sleep. The foreman's been a bit anxious lately, and now we only get half an hour of sleep each time!"

"Okay!"

The bearded man also found a big tree to lean against, intending to close his eyes and rest.

"Um?"

Something seems wrong!

Joey, who had just lain down, suddenly sat up again.

"What's wrong? What's wrong?"

The bearded man looked worried, thinking that the foreman had discovered that the two of them were slacking off.

"The birdsong in the woods has disappeared!"

Joey quickly got up and urged the bearded man to catch up with him.

Although the bearded man had questions about why Joey said that, he was used to not asking and just following him. Asking too many questions would only give him a headache.

The two returned to the location where the bridge was being built, and Joey hurriedly found the pickaxe he had thrown down and clutched it tightly in his hand.

The others were surprised to see the two return to the construction site so early, thinking that the sun must have risen in the west today.

"Big Beard, stand with me later. This is the time to stick together!"

Joey looked a little nervous, glancing around nervously.

"Joey, what's wrong?"

Although the bearded man didn't like to pry, seeing Joey looking so anxious, he asked out of concern.

"If nothing unexpected happens, then something unexpected is about to happen!"

Just as Joey finished speaking, a group of fully armed men emerged from the woods.

Although there were only 32 of them, their equipment was excellent and clearly not cheap.

Among them were six archers and ten heavily armored warriors.

If it really came down to a fight, this bridge-building team of over a hundred people, all of whom were farmers, would probably be no match for them.
