The bearded man pushed aside a heavy rock in front of him, and everyone's vision became clear.

The group of fourteen people emerged one by one from the secret passage.

The shouts of battle on Tiger Stone Mountain continued, but by the time they reached everyone's ears, they had become very faint.

“Scholar Daines, we…”

One of the female soldiers glanced in the direction of the outpost, seemingly wanting to say something but then stopping herself.

"Protecting Lady Catherine is the priority. Even if you go now, it will only add ten more corpses to the list and won't change anything!"

Although what Professor Daines said was harsh, it was the truth.

Joey continued to carry Catherine, not because he was born with superhuman strength, but because carrying her made him quite happy.

"Let's keep going, towards the town, if it hasn't been taken over by the orcs yet!"

Scholar Daines pointed ahead and took the lead.

Joey shifted Catherine's body slightly and continued on his way.

The thirteen people hid in a patch of grass near Linhai Town, constantly watching their surroundings.

Linhai Town, the town where Joey and Big Beard first met, is where they left to build the wooden bridge together.

But the town of Linhai was unusually quiet. Joey had been lying there watching for so long, but he hadn't seen a single person, not even the vicious dogs that usually barked at him.

A nimble figure suddenly emerged from the town and ran towards their location; it was an archer who had just been sent out to scout the situation.

"Grand Scholar Daines, the town is deserted, and no trace of orcs has been found so far!"

As soon as the archer finished speaking, Joey felt relieved. It seemed that Will had informed the townspeople in time, and his beloved Fran and Freya must have left safely as well.

Are there any ships left in the port?

Professor Daines directly asked the question that concerned him.

"I've already checked the port, there aren't a single ships left!"

Although Daines had anticipated the outcome, hearing the news from the archer still left him somewhat disappointed.

"That makes things difficult. If the wind is right and we set sail from this port, we can reach the continent of Budalas in just one month, and then we can safely arrive in Baron City!"

Daines' face was full of worry.

"My lord, aren't we going straight back to Ashfury City?"

A female soldier was very puzzled after hearing what Daines said. Gray Furnace City was only four days away from here, so why go the long way around?

"I'm afraid we can't go back to Grayfurnace City!"

"The messenger pigeon sent out to request help has been out for a week. The reinforcements from Ashfurnace City should have arrived by now, but they haven't been seen yet. This means that the reinforcements have either been intercepted or defeated!"

Daines analyzed the current situation, thinking about how to bypass the orcs and safely send Catherine back to Ashfury City.

"If you need a boat, I can help, but the problem is that the boat is rather small and probably can't seat so many people!"

After hearing what Daines said, Joey, who was standing next to him, spoke up.

“I originally lived in this town. I was planning to save enough money to buy a small boat and leave with my brother. I’ve looked at that boat several times, and we’ve already agreed on the price!”

Joey was pleased that he had saved another 300 silver coins. Although he was now half rich, who cared about having more money!

"This sailboat can probably only seat three or four people, there's really no room for all of us!"
