Chapter 154 The Thief

Lin Piaoxue knew that what Lin Qinghuan said was true, but she would never regret what she had done. Everyone has their own interests, and as long as she had money in the future and gave her family some benefits, her family would definitely still treat her the same way as before.

Lin Piaoxue was about to go see her mother when she bumped into Lin Ming, who was coming out of her mother's room. He shoved her hard, and she fell to the ground with a thud.

Lin Piaoxue glared angrily at Lin Ming, but when she met his fierce expression and remembered his temper, fearing he might attack her, she wisely got up and asked coldly, "Third Brother, what exactly do you want?"

"Mom can't be upset, don't go in and disturb her," Lin Ming warned.

Lin Piaoxue turned around and went back to her room in anger. Her stomach was still hurting, and she wasn't allowed to see her mother. This gave her time to rest.

"Third brother, you need to rein in your temper, or you'll definitely get into trouble in the future," Lin Feng earnestly advised.

"Second brother, I understand. I'll try to lose my temper less in the future," Lin Ming said.

"I'm relieved that you're willing to listen to advice," Lin Feng said.

"Second brother, haven't I treated Piaoxue well? Why did he ruin my reputation?" Lin Ming said dejectedly.

Lin Feng didn't know how to answer Lin Ming, nor did he know why Lin Piaoxue was becoming increasingly selfish. He was also worried that Lin Piaoxue might take advantage of him one day.

"You're injured, don't wander around, go back to your room and rest!"

Seeing that Lin Feng didn't answer his question but changed the subject, Lin Ming moved his lips but ultimately said nothing, and dejectedly went back to his room to rest.

With Lin's mother injured, all the housework fell on Lin Qinghuan's shoulders. Cooking, washing dishes, sweeping the floor, she was busy every day and had no time to read.

Lin's mother sat at the entrance of the main room, watching Lin Qinghuan sweep the yard. Even a small pebble was picked up and thrown outside. An image involuntarily flashed before her eyes: a six or seven-year-old girl, a tiny bundle, struggling to sweep the ground, bending down to pick up a pebble, throwing it outside, and smiling as she said, "Mommy, there can't be any pebbles in the yard. If you accidentally fall and bump into one, it will hurt a lot!"

The little girl ran up to her and pointed to her forehead, saying, "Mommy, look at my forehead! It still hurts when I fell and hit my head on a small stone!"

"Mom will rub it for Qinghuan, and the pain will go away."

"Mommy, I want to blow on it again."

"Okay, Mom will blow on Qinghuan's skin, and once it hurts, she'll fly away."

Lin's mother looked at Lin Qinghuan sweeping the floor, and her eyes welled up with tears.

As soon as Lin Qinghuan looked up, she saw her mother looking at her with tears in her eyes. She quickly went to her mother and asked, "Mom, is your wound hurting?" As she spoke, she subconsciously blew on the wound on her mother's forehead.

Lin Qinghuan suddenly froze, stiffly withdrawing her hand. She was concerned about her mother, how could this be?

How could she possibly care about Lin's mother? That's ridiculous!

Lin Qinghuan put the broom under the eaves, picked up the vegetable basket, and went out into the yard.

As Lin Qinghuan hurriedly left the courtyard, tears streamed down her face, but a slight smile played on her lips.

Lin Piaoxue yawned as she came out of the room and sat down next to her mother. Seeing that her mother's eyes were slightly red, she asked curiously, "Mom, what's wrong?"

Lin's mother said calmly, "It's nothing, just some dust got in my eyes, and I couldn't help but rub them a few times."

Lin Piaoxue said "Oh!" and then looked away.

"Why hasn't Lin Qinghuan cooked yet? I'm starving," Lin Piaoxue said unhappily.

"Qinghuan went to pick vegetables. You have to endure the hunger even if you're hungry," said Lin's mother.

"Mom, are you still blaming me?" Lin Piaoxue asked.

Looking at the distant sky, Lin's mother said softly, "No mother would resent her own child."

Lin Piaoxue curled her lips in disbelief. She had once seen her mother looking at Lin Qinghuan with a face full of resentment, as if Lin Qinghuan was her enemy. Otherwise, she would not have been so bold as to bully Lin Qinghuan.

Lin Piaoxue rubbed her already empty stomach, ran into the kitchen, ate a bowl of rice mixed with lard, threw the bowl into a basin after finishing the meal, and left the kitchen.

"Piaoxue, you'd better wash the dishes you just ate from. If Qinghuan comes back and sees them, she might not let you eat," Lin's mother said.

Lin Piaoxue said unhappily, "Mom, I am injured now."

“You should say that to Qinghuan, it won’t do any good to me,” Lin’s mother said.

Seeing that her mother wasn't on her side, Lin Piaoxue turned around unhappily and went into the kitchen to wash the dishes she had just eaten from.

Lin Qinghuan saw a woman picking vegetables in her garden from afar and couldn't help but shout, "Who's in my garden? Don't pick my vegetables! Put them down right now!"

Upon hearing Lin Qinghuan's voice, the woman seemed afraid of being scolded by him, so she dropped what she was holding and ran away in a flash.

Lin Qinghuan ran into the vegetable garden and saw a small pile of cabbages on the ground, weighing about two or three pounds, and a large cucumber that had fallen to the ground, some of which was cracked.

Holy crap! Picking so many bok choy, aren't you afraid of stuffing yourself to death? Picking so many bok choy is one thing, but picking a gourd as well is another. Does it mean her whole family is dead?

Lin Qinghuan angrily put the bok choy and cucumber into the vegetable basket, picked up the basket, and went home.

Lin's father and the others had just returned from work when they saw Lin Qinghuan walk into the yard with a displeased look on her face. Lin's father asked, "Qinghuan, did you have a fight with someone?"

"Dad, how could you think that way? I'm not the kind of person who likes to cause trouble," Lin Qinghuan said unhappily.

Lin's father asked curiously, "Then why were you so angry?"

Lin Feng, Lin Ming, and Lin's mother also looked at Lin Qinghuan curiously, wanting to know who had offended her.

Lin Qinghuan said angrily, "I saw a woman stealing vegetables from our garden from a great distance. As soon as I shouted, she ran away."

"Qinghuan, we're all from the same village. It's just picking a small handful of vegetables; it's not stealing. Don't make such a fuss."

Lin Qinghuan brought the vegetable basket to her father and said, “Dad, look, look! All these vegetables were picked by that woman. Is it just a small bunch? It’s a lot! Picking so many small cabbages wasn’t enough, she even picked our big gourds.”

Lin Qinghuan pointed to the cucumber in the basket and said, "See this? This cucumber weighs at least seven or eight pounds. You don't have to worry about overeating it."

Looking at the vegetables in the basket, Lin's father realized how greedy he was; so many vegetables, enough for the family to eat for several meals.

"Did you see who it was clearly?" Lin's mother asked.

"It was too far away, I couldn't see it clearly," Lin Qinghuan replied.

Lin's mother said helplessly, "Never mind, next time we bump into each other, just say a few words to her."

"How can we let it go? If I catch her, I will definitely not let her go," Lin Qinghuan said.

Mr. Lin raised an eyebrow and asked, "What do you want to do?"

"Of course I'll go pick vegetables from her garden too! I'll pick as many as I can, until she's in so much pain, and then we'll see if she dares to pick our vegetables again," Lin Qinghuan said defiantly.

Lin's father smiled. As long as Lin Qinghuan didn't fight or curse, he wouldn't stop her.
