Chapter 83
Public opinion was in an uproar. The incident happened so suddenly that Fei's speech to the media was still being posted on the StarNet, but the news that followed was that he had been arrested.
Chaos erupted everywhere because the arrested female soldiers released irrefutable evidence that Fei was suspected of using male insects to bribe senior officials.
The federal court quickly issued an arrest warrant, and the news spread rapidly across the StarNet, reaching an alarming number of reposts in just three hours.
Because the evidence was airtight, Fei's family immediately distanced themselves from the situation, preserving most of their assets, while all of Fei's soldiers had to undergo a considerable period of suspension and investigation.
The only person we can contact right now is the guard officer from that powerful family, but he's not very well-informed.
Upon learning the news, Professor Arnold immediately took Toto away, which led to an argument with Zos.
After the one-month period ended, the other party did not deliberately distance themselves from him. Instead, they maintained a considerable degree of ambiguous contact. Professor Arnold wanted to study the residual effects of the drug on him, so he never refused.
He saw this as fair, but he didn't know why Zos always tried to interfere in his private affairs.
"You have absolutely no connection with that kid, why go to such lengths?"
Arnold frowned.
Zos grinned and leaned closer, fiddling with a small ornament on the table. "Hey, Professor, you'd better not get involved in this. Do you know whose signature is on the arrest warrant? Commander Fei is in deep trouble this time."
Professor Arnold said calmly, "That's why I had to rescue that child."
Zos paused, his gaze shifting from the toys on the table. He straightened up, trapping Professor Arnold between himself and the wall, and said affectionately, "I told you, don't get involved. This is something even Silver Honour wouldn't dare to get involved in."
Professor Arnold pushed him away coldly. Zos was stunned for a moment. He tried to grab Arnold's arm, but Arnold used a book to keep him at a distance: "I won't involve you, don't worry."
Zos: "That's not what I meant."
Professor Arnold seemed not to understand Zos's intentions. He raised his chin and asked doubtfully, "A month has passed, and you should have gotten rid of the effects of drug addiction by now."
Zos opened his mouth, unable to utter a single word.
Professor Arnold said, "Or perhaps you've developed feelings for me, this insect?"
How could this be? The difference is too great, whether in terms of identity or anything else. Zos quickly shook his head, and Professor Arnold nodded and put his book away.
"You can go now."
He turned around to pack his things, and when he looked back, the female insect had left sometime earlier.
That arrogant fellow should never appear before him again.
Professor Arnold, having finished his preparations, found the boy and, using his authority, brought him to his office. He was determined to prevent a talented male Green Golem from falling into the same predicament he had faced.
Professor Arnold emphasized to Toto, "You can't change anything."
"If he can't get out, then no one on this planet can help him. Stay put, you won't get hurt here."
Looking at the student sitting blankly on the sofa, clenching his fists, he wanted to say a few words of comfort, but the words wouldn't come out. Arnold was no longer capable of such gentle words; he seemed cold and ruthless, as if he just wanted to lock Toto up here.
He walked over, and the male insect suddenly spoke.
"I'm sorry, Professor."
Then he was hugged, felt a sharp pain in his shoulder, and then everything went black.
Toto helped the professor up, half-carried him to the sofa, covered him with a small blanket, and solemnly repeated his apology.
"Professor, I will come to ask for your forgiveness when you wake up."
Once Toto's footsteps faded into the distance, the tightly closed window suddenly opened from the outside, and Zos jumped in from above and walked to the sofa.
He bent down and stared at Professor Arnold's face for a while, then touched his neck with his hand on his shoulder and said strangely, "Tsk, brat, you've got some sense of propriety."
Then, he carefully laid the limp head down in his hands, staring at the professor's pale, thin, and quietly sleeping appearance, his heart heavy.
Toto returned home, but Merck wasn't there. He searched everywhere, but there wasn't a single Zerg in the house.
He called the guard officer, but the line was constantly busy.
Several messages popped up in the message bar, including one from an unknown user with a profile picture of a golden kitten: [Hey, are you alright...cough, if you have nowhere to go, my place...]
Toto quickly scrolled past the unimportant messages until he reached the chubby classmate's message: [Tregear, aren't you at school?]
[Don't worry, my father said Fei is at Pasa Hospital. Although he was injured, his life is not in danger.]
"The Commander is injured," Toto's expression changed slightly, and he quickly located the location and set off.
Just as I stepped out the door, my personal terminal beeped with a notification. It was a message from the current patriarch of the Madison family, who announced an obituary in a calm tone.
Toto stood there, his mind blank.
It took him a while to process the news, but he found himself seemingly temporarily unable to read or write, unable to decipher the message from those short words. He read it over and over again, walking as he read, and then stopped by a streetlamp.
A bug squatted down next to him and asked if he wanted some water. Toto shook his head. His face was expressionless, terribly pale, and as white as paper, but he didn't say anything.
The guards officer had a very difficult three hours. He finally managed to get rid of the media and government officials and walked out of the hospital, exhausted both physically and mentally. He saw the little male insect squatting at the hospital entrance and was stopped by the soldiers.
The guard officer's expression changed slightly. He walked over and pulled him aside: "Why are you here? Didn't Arnold say... Never mind, hurry back and don't let the media take pictures, or you'll be in trouble."
Toto's face was terrifyingly pale, his deep gray eyes staring silently at him. His tone was calm: "I'm not going anywhere."
The guard picked at his ear: "What?"
He hadn't even had time to check the news on the StarNet yet. He was currently exhausted and furious because of Fei's matter. He put his arm around Toto's shoulder and lowered his voice to comfort him, "Listen to me, go back first. You're alright, I'm here."
Toto kept his head down and stubbornly remained still.
He opened the StarNet on his personal computer, and the notification bar reminded him that he had received an inheritance transfer. It was a message from ten minutes ago. He stared at the last name for a while. The amount of money was not much, and it looked rather pitiful.
Just like the care Toto once received from him, but he couldn't say, "I don't want it," or "I hate you."
Toto always forgave them easily, even when both of them made the choice to leave him, the worm, behind.
He couldn't find his female father's body, nor could he see him one last time.
The two Zerg that should have loved him the most in this world both said goodbye to him in their own ways.
He had no way to help the commander. This was not a place he was familiar with. In the past, when his female father was injured, he could gather herbs, but now that Fei was injured, there was nothing he could do.
Toto is not afraid of difficulties or hardship. All the good things he gets are earned through hard work, so he is never self-conscious, afraid, or thinks he is useless because he can do many things.
So he once thought that he could live a good life without Fei.
But now he realizes it won't work.
"Let me see him."
He heard his own voice sound strange, trembling, his lips shaking so badly it terrified the insects. He had never heard himself speak so pitifully, so helplessly: "Please."
The guard officer fell silent. He opened his mouth wide, reacted for a moment, then his face contorted in deep furrows. After a brief pause, he shook his head with difficulty: "I'm sorry, Toto, Commander, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do..."
Toto lowered his head and sat on the steps in the corner, without saying a word.
The guard officer hesitated, scratching his head, before finally buying him some food and water and leaving with a grave expression.
Toto hugged his knees, as if he had returned to his childhood, falling into a muddy puddle and crying loudly. It was drizzling and cold, and he couldn't climb out of the puddle no matter what he did. He would always climb up a little and then fall back down. He repeated that process until his voice was hoarse, but no Zerg came.
The damp cold seeped into his bones, causing him a tearing pain.
"Waaaaah...waaaah..."
The male insect emitted a faint sobbing sound.
He roughly wiped away his tears, and suddenly felt a warmth on his body as a thin coat, still warm from his body, covered him. Toto looked up in surprise, only to have his head pressed down.
He heard a familiar voice: "Don't move, I can only stay for a little while."
Toto dared not move rashly. His eyes fell on a pair of high-top rain boots. The person was dressed as a caregiver cleaning up hospital garbage, but the eyes revealed behind the mask were shockingly familiar.
Are you hungry?
While pretending to take out the trash, Fei asked softly, and the male insect, with its head down, seemed to shed a tear on the floor, its voice somewhat dazed: "I'm not hungry."
Fei sighed softly to himself, but his eyes remained gentle. His family had severed ties long ago, and given his eccentric personality, he didn't actually see any problem with it.
But we shouldn't be so indifferent to insects that we're close to.
And...this child is probably very sad right now...
After taking out the trash, Fei was about to push the cart away, change his clothes, and return to the ward. He glanced up and saw the guard officer at the window, timing him and mouthing words to him with a ferocious expression.
Before leaving, Fei quickly rubbed Toto's genitals.
“Enoch Madison is not dead. You asked me if I could take him away from the Madison house, and my answer is yes.”
Toto was stunned.
...
The sound of the cart faded into the distance, and the guard officer, who had been counting the seconds at the window until his face was almost cramping, finally breathed a sigh of relief.
After Fei lay back down on the hospital bed, he knelt down beside the bed, his body swaying like a balloon figure in front of a shop: "Sir, do you know that if you are discovered, you will be immediately transferred back to prison? What will happen to me then? What will happen to all those soldiers?"
Fei lay there calmly, offering no answer, but instead posing a question: "Didn't you tell Toto about Enoch Madison?"
Guard Officer: "..." Oh crap, I forgot.
He immediately stood up, tucked the blanket around Fei, and closed Fei's eyes with a heavy expression and a sorrowful tone: "Commander, please get some rest."
Fiji:"……"
