Chapter 88

The matter was resolved, and Torregia no longer had to suffer injustice, but being hugged by the child brought him more comfort.

Fei lowered his eyes slightly. Before he arrived here, his family had called, and his parents explained in a calm tone that severing ties was only a temporary measure and hoped that he would not mind.

His answer was so appropriate that the insect couldn't find fault with it, nor could it find much emotion in it.

Lanna hesitated, saying she wanted to come and see Toto, but he quickly led her there with a few words.

"Sir, why?"

Fei points out that Lanna doesn't really care about her friends, to which Lanna cries out in protest: "But I can't get out at all! My father hired so many tutors for me, and I..."

Realizing that it was inappropriate to talk about inheriting the family business in front of his elder brother, Lan Na immediately stopped talking. But as astute as his elder brother was, he naturally understood the unspoken meaning in Lan Na's words.

Lanna was fully aware of the conflict between his parents and brother. When Fei was young, he fell seriously ill, and a special drug temporarily altered his genetic makeup, which led to his abandonment by his parents.

After recovering from his illness, he abandoned his family to join the army and refused to go home. Although he still called them his female father and male father, only he knew how much of it was genuine.

Fei cares about him as his younger brother, but he may not have much patience for him as the head of the family.

Sure enough, after a moment of silence, the older brother simply said "Keep it up" and hung up the phone.

On the other end of the phone, compared to Lanna's frantic struggle, Fei seemed quite calm, and his face showed no unusual expression as he recalled his childhood. Back then, he didn't understand why his parents decided to abandon him because of a flawed aptitude test, and why he had gone through countless hardships to be reborn as the Inheritance Worm.

After experiencing betrayal, they realized the importance of lifespan to the Zerg, and it became difficult for them to empathize with the lower-level Zerg they had previously treated as equals.

Time is cruel; before he had even grown old, the insectoids were already covered in white hair.

That's why they always live in the present; even though they did cruel things to Fei, they still sincerely came to congratulate him when he regained his identity.

But after so many years, Fei is no longer the same person he used to be, and these kinds of topics no longer have any special meaning for him.

But now, as Toto embraces him, Fei thinks that fifty years from now, or forty years from now, Toregia will leave him.

The lower-level Zerg, who no longer cared much about death and aging, suddenly found themselves under a visible shadow, about to fall upon the Tregear's brow.

A strange glint flashed in Fei's eyes, but the male insect embracing him didn't sense anything different.

Toto didn't realize that he had hugged her for more than two seconds, as required by social etiquette. He told the female insect he hadn't seen in a long time, "You're back. It's the best thing that happened today."

Fei smiled slightly.

But he restrained himself, knowing that Toregia truly meant to regard him as an elder and a friend.

But setting aside his identity, he also exists as a female insect, and he feels an uncontrollable pleasure at the intimacy of a young woman towards him.

While there was no evil intent involved, it wasn't entirely pure either.

He didn't want to push Torregia away, nor did he want to remind him that a polite and considerate social hug lasts only a few seconds.

If life were always filled with such cold, indifferent rules, life would be far too monotonous and boring.

However, the Imperial Guard had much to say about this.

Because she orchestrated the whitewashing of her superior's reputation, this female soldier went to great lengths to curry favor with him.

Not only did he dare to refute his superior's hypocrisy regarding the Enoch-Madison affair, but he also shamelessly expressed his opinions.

"Toto's father did not commit any major wrongdoing."

"To say that is too heartless. As a male insect, to be so insulted and not slap you can only mean that he is afraid of offending your current guardian insect, and dares not easily provoke his superior and make his insect offspring's life difficult."

"In that case, it seems better to send Toto back."

"You didn't even ask for his opinion before making the decision to keep him here. That's really undemocratic."

The female officer, who had always maintained a refined smile and a stern military bearing, changed her expression from gentle and calm to completely expressionless in just ten seconds. Faced with her superior's disastrous expression, the guard officer chuckled twice, dusted off her clothes, and jumped off the officer's desk: "But Toto would certainly prefer to follow you."

Fei remained expressionless and shook the newspaper.

...

Toto is very sensible, but that doesn't mean he's quiet.

Since Fei left prison, he moved his office from the Imperial Star Building to the small apartment next door. As a result, the property prices in the vicinity soared, and a small military center gradually formed around the Toto family.

Toto used to see Fei only occasionally, but now they eat together for all three meals a day.

The guards officer's job was busy and important. One night, in a real emergency, he took the officers directly to his home.

Fei had already changed into casual clothes by then. It was too much trouble to go next door to change, so he took care of the unfinished business in the living room.

Everyone was having a serious meeting.

Laughter suddenly came from the balcony, which was not properly closed. The voice was young, but very familiar. The guard officer reacted immediately, his lips curling up slightly before quickly falling back down as he looked out the window and pretended nothing had happened.

Fei remained silent.

He switched legs, trying to continue the conversation.

However, there was quite a commotion on the balcony, and it seemed to be playing a compilation of challenges from his teenage years. This kid is digesting videos way too quickly.

Partner A: "Sir, would you like to go to the study?"

Fei hummed in agreement, took a sip of water, and was about to get up when the curtains were suddenly pulled open. Toto, wearing headphones, stared at a room full of female soldiers.

The young male insect was tall and slender, handsome and composed, with a cool and aloof appearance that made him seem unapproachable. At this moment, he was staring blankly at them.

The guard officer greeted him, "Good evening."

Toto's personal computer: [The preview is over. Only podcast members with ten years or more of membership can watch this!]

Toto quickly shut down his personal terminal, composed and steady. His gaze swept quickly around the room before he said casually, "Good morning."

After a brief moment of silence, the officers looked directly at the male insect who was publicly revealing his dark past in front of the main body, and felt a surge of sympathy and emotion. Perhaps this was the last time they would see him on the main planet.

They kindly corrected themselves: "Good evening."

Fei, wearing a military uniform jacket, remained silent. The atmosphere in the room was strange and quiet. He had to break the deadlock by waving his hand, signaling the female soldiers to leave.

Toto touched his nose and prepared to go back to his room.

Fei called out to him, beckoned him over, asked him a few questions about his studies, and then his gaze suddenly fell on the personal terminal on Toto's wrist.

The guard stepped forward, feeling that it was inappropriate to criticize the insect cubs in front of so many other insects.

Fei took out his personal computer and subscribed to a ten-year membership for Toto.

The guard officer withdrew his foot.

Oh.
