Each of the major fleets and Imperial forces was assigned missions and designated sectors to defend. However, the Ninth Fleet and Guilliman were nowhere to be seen. All that was known was that they were still trapped in the Warp. Technological communication methods, disrupted by the Warp's energies, made it impossible to contact them. Only through the feeble telepathy of their former astropaths could they obtain intermittent responses.
The content remains the same as before: Trust me!
In response, Palpatine jumped out again and said sarcastically: Zhong Kai is stalling for time and trying to confuse us. Maybe he is now brewing an unprecedented backstab, we must be on guard!
With war imminent, Chang Wei was furious at such arguments that were detrimental to unity, and he was eager to draw the Emperor's Sword and strike him down. But deep down, he knew Palpatine had a point. Zhong Kai's repeated failure to offer a definitive explanation was highly suspicious.
However, time was not on his side. The idea of pacifying the country before resisting foreign aggression was clearly unrealistic. Sending a large army to recapture Zhong Kai and Guilliman was clearly unrealistic. Therefore, he could only remain vigilant and wait until the Tyranid invasion was dealt with.
If Zhong Kai really wanted to backstab him, Chang Wei would definitely make him regret it and sever all ties with him from then on!
This matter was put on hold for the time being. Chang Wei had already decided that when Zhong Kai returned, he would deprive him of his military power, detain him for interrogation, and teach him a lesson!
Soon, the battle began.
Chang Wei and his team acted quickly. After formulating relevant strategic plans, they headed to the border of the galaxy and began to defend against the crazy attacks of the Zerg.
This time, the Zerg invasion was massive, not just confined to Jörmungandr. Like a vast army, they attacked simultaneously from multiple directions. Wherever they arrived, they transformed into a swarm of locusts, devouring vibrant planets in a short period of time. Then, they surged forward, again and again, on to their next target!
Conservative estimates suggest that the Zerg's numbers are at least a million times greater than those of the human army! In other words, an average Astra Militarum soldier would have to fight against a million Zerg.
This data may seem despairing, but it is not actually calculated that way.
The human empire, with the technological blessing granted by the Light Seekers, has achieved a qualitative leap in science and technology. In particular, the imperial commanders who operate alongside the major fleets have witnessed and learned the Light Seekers' tactics and advanced combat concepts.
I understand. Battles can sometimes be so simple and easy.
They rely on "supersensing" to search for the enemy in advance, "beyond visual range" long-range strikes, "battlefield intelligence networking" for real-time planning and precise dispatch, "unmanned systems" for autonomous combat and casualty reduction, "stealth and jamming technology" for advanced warfare, "virtual technology" for tactical deduction, "intelligent application" for convenience and speed, and so on and so forth...
The power that these new and advanced things combined could create completely overturned this era and was enough to instantly eliminate the empire's military disadvantage.
Therefore, in the ensuing battle, the vast Zerg swarms were annihilated by the various attacks before they could even see the human forces! The most the humans lost was some energy, ammunition, and drones. Often, after a battle spanning dozens of star systems, the average Zerg to Human casualty ratio could reach billions to one.
Such a brilliant victory clearly astonished the Imperial soldiers. Such an outrageous casualty ratio would have been unthinkable in the past! Many veterans told the new recruits that, in the past, commanding communications on the battlefield relied primarily on the astropath's obscure code. Deciphering it not only delayed the battle, but also resulted in frequent packet loss, resulting in the loss of several syllables. Furthermore, it was subject to interference from the Warp and demonic manipulation.
When facing the enemy, apart from boarding and close combat, most of the time, tactical strategies and advanced strikes are rarely used. Basically, a foolish superior shouts "Emperor" and launches a charge at all costs! If the battle is still unsuccessful, the next step is to call in the "canned" airdrop.
So, with this mindless, unflinching, and heroic fighting, how could the Astra Militarum not have suffered heavy casualties in the past? How could it compare to now? Just being a boss, comfortably killing the enemy remotely... that's a real treat!
But soon, as the battle continued, they began to realize something was wrong.
These Zerg seemed a bit different from the Tyranids they'd seen before. After enduring massive casualties, they'd actually begun to evolve more useful organs. For example, thicker carapaces, wings capable of deploying defensive shields and force fields, and energy vents on their backs that vibrated, enabling them to perform short-distance leaps.
It's as if... they are deliberately adapting to human's attack methods and then making corresponding counterattacks!
The battlefield situation gradually shifted, with reports of increasing difficulty coming from all fronts. Some insects even began to develop reflective coatings that made them impervious to beam weapons and thermal radiation. Human casualties also began to mount.
It's like a scale that was originally biased is gradually being balanced again.
If this continues, the advantage of the human empire will be gone! No! Chang Wei knew he couldn't wait any longer, he had to kill Jörmungandr immediately!
