I used half my life to gain this great enlightenment. If I were to look back even once, I would deserve to die," Chen Lu said to himself after waking up.
He and Mo Yuqing had known each o...
Jiang Chao and Jiang Yubo didn't say a word the whole time.
However, Jiang Chao could tell that his father was inexplicably not very satisfied with his daughter-in-law, Liu Yan.
You can't hide your likes or dislikes for someone in your eyes.
"What do your parents do?" After a while, Jiang Yubo suddenly asked, "You don't look like a local."
Liu Yan smiled politely and said, "My family is from another province. My father works at a company, and my mother runs a small business."
Jiang Yubo nodded almost imperceptibly without speaking. Seeing a hint of contempt in his eyes, Liu Yan suddenly felt a little wronged.
What's wrong with being from an ordinary family? What's wrong with being from out of town? Can't we date?
What hurt her most, however, was the other party's contempt for her parents' profession.
This is unbearable for any child.
But this person happens to be her boyfriend's father.
She, who usually has a fiery temper, suddenly felt a little lost.
"Can you stop checking our household registration?" Jiang Chao said coldly. "We're just ordinary people, who can compare to you?"
Zheng Yunying quickly tried to smooth things over, "Liu Yan has already been involved in several lawsuits, that's really impressive. Jiang Chao, how's your company doing?"
"I've already taken several million myself. The new game launches tomorrow, and it'll make at least several million in profit."
Jiang Chao spoke the truth.
"You and Chen Lu have handled this matter quite well," Jiang Chao's mother said subconsciously, offering a compliment.
These words immediately provoked Jiang Yubo, who sneered and said, "What's so great about it? You're spineless!"
"What does it mean to be successful? Does it mean you have to do things your way to be successful?" Jiang Chao finally exploded, his anger, which had been building up because of his father's attitude towards Liu Yan.
Jiang Yubo said dismissively, "Am I wrong? Would your mother and I harm you?"
"But why should I listen to you? I don't owe you anything!"
"I gave birth to you and raised you, don't you owe me anything?!"
"That's moral blackmail! Just because you gave birth to me doesn't mean I deserve to be controlled by you? Nobody even asked for my opinion when I was born!"
Jiang Chao's tone became increasingly aggressive as he spoke, "What exactly does it mean to be successful? Is it only successful if you live the way you want to be successful?"
At least I'm doing what I've wanted to do since I was a child, it's my dream, and now I've surpassed many people in this area. Isn't that success?
He finally remembered Chen Lu's words, suppressed his rapid breathing, and tried his best to speak calmly: "Dad, how old am I this year? How many people can earn millions like me at the age of twenty-two?"
If there hadn't been a mirror in front of him, he was certain that the veins in his temples would have been bulging right now.
Jiang Yubo showed no sign of backing down. "If you were in the position I want you to be, even someone who earns millions at 22, let alone someone who earns ten million at 12, would have to bow and scrape before you!"
After saying that, he stood up angrily again, "The road has been paved for you, you could walk it with your eyes closed, but you don't walk it, and you call that being successful? That's called being stubborn and unrepentant!"
Liu Yan and Zheng Yunying were completely stunned. Weren't they here to meet the parents? How did things suddenly turn out like this?
"You want me to walk the path you can't walk yourself? Didn't you even consider whether that's what I want?!"
Jiang Chao took a few quick breaths, then suddenly laughed and looked at him coldly, saying, "Just you wait and see, I will definitely be more successful than you imagine in the future."
The first meeting with the parents ended with Jiang Chao leaving with Liu Yan by the hand.
It was completely dark when the two came out.
The two walked side by side under the streetlights, leaving footprints in the snow.
There was silence for a long time.
"Even without your blessings, I'm still willing to marry you," Liu Yan suddenly said as they walked under another streetlamp.
Jiang Chao was taken aback for a moment, then curled the corners of his mouth into a smile. "That's easy. Let's go get our marriage certificate now."
Perhaps out of rebellion against his parents' disapproval of the relationship, he suddenly said something like that.
Upon hearing this, Liu Yan was stunned for a long time, then nodded blankly, and suddenly shook her head.
"But can you please stop focusing so much on company matters?" Her voice was unusually soft. "As long as we have enough money, let's just live a good life together, okay?"
She had already made up her mind. As long as Jiang Chao agreed now, even if it was just a perfunctory promise, she would go with him immediately.
Jiang Chao stood under another street lamp like a snowman until his head was covered in snow, then he moved slightly and slowly shook his head.
Liu Yan's tone became somewhat hysterical, "Why? Is this kind of thing really that important? I used to have a lot of messy dreams too, but now I just want to live this life with you."
"This is a knot in my heart that I've had since I can remember," Jiang Chao said firmly.
"All you do is talk about your inner struggles, can't you even try to understand me a little?!" Liu Yan looked completely slumped over. "I really don't understand you at all anymore. How did you become like this right after graduation?"
“You don’t understand if you’ve never lived like a puppet! Have you ever experienced how painful it is to be forced to follow the script written by your parents since elementary school? Whether it’s for ideals or to spite my dad, I only now feel like I’m living for myself! You keep saying I don’t understand you, but have you ever really tried to understand me?!”
After listening to Jiang Chao's words, Liu Yan sniffed, stared at him intently, and her tone suddenly turned cold, "You kept changing girlfriends, were you living for yourself?"
The two didn't speak again until they got into the car; there was no need to say anything more after arguing like that.
