I used half my life to gain this great enlightenment. If I were to look back even once, I would deserve to die," Chen Lu said to himself after waking up.
He and Mo Yuqing had known each o...
Jump into the river?
Chen Lu was stunned for a moment, then stood up blankly and looked towards the source of the shouts.
A group of people had already gathered by the bridge, craning their necks to look down and muttering something under their breath.
The three of them followed the crowd who had come to join in the fun and arrived at the bridge.
"My goodness! It's so cold outside..."
"It went down from here...it went down from here! I thought this person was admiring the scenery, but then suddenly they went down."
"She doesn't look that old. How could someone so young be so foolish?"
The various shouts and discussions around him made Chen Lu feel confused and disoriented.
The bridge was actually much higher than the river, and it was already late at night, so he couldn't see clearly whether the person who fell into the water was male or female, or even their body shape. He could only vaguely see the splashing water caused by the person struggling.
He glanced around again; the people gathered by the bridge were still muttering to themselves, and it seemed no one had any intention of going down to rescue the people.
It's quite normal. People who fall into the water instinctively try to push their rescuers into the water, like grasping at a straw, which is why there are so many cases of rescuers tragically losing their lives...
Naturally, no one would want to do something so dangerous.
Chen Lu has always considered himself a bad person. He has never donated a single penny to any charity since he was a child, and he wouldn't even glance at a able-bodied beggar on the street.
But since he witnessed it with his own eyes, he couldn't just ignore it.
He had just started taking off his coat when Jiang Chao suddenly grabbed his shoulder.
Chen Lu was very anxious and didn't have time to speak for a moment. He just turned his head and looked at the other person anxiously and with doubt.
You're not going down yourself, fine, but you're stopping me?!
Seeing his gaze, Jiang Chao remained calm and composed, his eyes even appearing somewhat cold.
"Your life isn't just yours alone."
He glanced down from the bridge, took a deep breath, and continued calmly, "What about Liang Zhirou?"
Chen Lu was stunned.
Jiang Chao's words automatically took root in his mind and became: "If something were to happen, could Liang Zhirou withstand the blow?"
He's only read popular science articles; he's never actually saved anyone, so he has absolutely no experience.
What if something really does happen...?
Strength and vulnerability coexist within that simple, honest person.
Chen Lu didn't dare to think about what would happen to Liang Zhirou without him, since he usually didn't dare to think about how things would have turned out if Liang Zhirou hadn't met him that day.
Then he thought that he might never see Liang Zhirou again, that he couldn't be by her side to watch her get better, and that he couldn't take advantage of her by being unreasonable.
I can't even hold her hand and walk down the street anymore...
He suddenly couldn't help but take two steps back, feeling somewhat unfamiliar with his own mindset.
Was he really that afraid of death?
Lost in thought, he was pulled back to reality by the chatter of the people around him. Just as he was about to speak, Li Sinian patted his other shoulder.
"It's okay, Brother Lu, I'll take care of it."
After Li Sinian finished speaking, he glanced around and, seeing that no one had gone down yet, he tucked his glasses into Chen Lu's collar and smirked smugly.
He didn't know where his smugness came from; perhaps it was because he was happy that he had finally been in a good position.
Or perhaps they think that these two guys always brag about having girlfriends, but when faced with something like this, they end up as cowards, not as good as him who has no ties.
Without thinking any further, he jumped off the railing and plunged into the water.
Jiang Chao's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "I can't stop trying to persuade him? This guy didn't even give me a chance to try!"
Seeing Chen Lu still taking off his coat, he shouted again, "Li Sinian went down to save you, what are you doing going?"
"You've just met him? Does he even have the brains to save lives?!"
After Chen Lu finished speaking, he threw his coat at him, followed immediately by a second splash.
Jiang Chao sighed, took out his phone and dialed a number, "Someone fell into the water, yes, it's over here by the Binjiang Bridge, right across from the Yeren Food Stall, remember to come from the south side of the road, there are many illegally parked cars at the intersection on the north side."
After finishing his concise statement, he added, "If you had arrived any later, at least four of you would have died here."
Just as I hung up the phone and was about to check on the situation again, I heard Chen Lu shout from below: "You want to die too? Don't rush over there! Let's go behind him! We'll talk to him when he's exhausted!"
......
After an unknown amount of time, Chen Lu had just swum to the other side of the bridge when he saw Jiang Chao standing there motionless, staring at him.
Are you sick?
Jiang Chao angrily cursed, "You didn't even know to call 120 first before jumping in, did you? If you had drowned, no one would have been able to save you!"
Chen Lu simply wiped the water off his face and gave him a slight smile.
"You would definitely hit me, otherwise I wouldn't have jumped down."
He felt a little awkward after he finished speaking, because he seemed to have fallen into the water twice in just six months.
This time was different from when I was fishing; it was January now, and the river water was icy cold.
I was probably nervous just now. I didn't feel that cold when I was in the water, but now that I'm on land, I'm shivering uncontrollably.
Chen Lu glanced at the spot where Li Sinian had come ashore in the distance. Since he was the one leading the group, the crowd had gathered around him to watch the spectacle.
"He didn't die from failing the civil service exam, thankfully he swam ashore," Chen Lu said with a smile.
Jiang Chao wasn't in the mood for jokes; he was still seething with anger. "You two's behavior reminds me of a word."
