Why Do You Think I'll Always Like You?

I used half my life to gain this great enlightenment. If I were to look back even once, I would deserve to die," Chen Lu said to himself after waking up.

He and Mo Yuqing had known each o...

Chapter 304 Who Knows I Know You

The housekeeper contacted him mainly because there was really no one else available.

The old man's children all live in other places, and during this period, the aunt only saw him go to Professor Yin's house alone.

When Chen Lu arrived, the entire ward was crowded with doctors, and there wasn't even a chance for him to go in and visit.

The old man alone alarmed most of the hospital.

He did manage to find out the cause of the coma; it was a disease that is very common in older people—cerebral thrombosis.

Fortunately, the blood clot was not very serious, and Professor Yin woke up around 2 a.m.

After the group of doctors finally left, only Chen Lu and Professor Yin remained in the ward.

"What are you doing here?" Professor Yin asked in a very weak voice.

For some reason, Chen Lu felt that when Professor Yin realized he had woken up, there was not relief in his eyes, but rather a hint of regret.

“Of course he’s here to see you.” Chen Lu shrugged. “Why would you set a housekeeper as your emergency contact? The housekeeper can’t come over, so she can only contact me.”

Professor Yin probably hadn't fully recovered yet, and kept staring quietly at the ceiling.

"It's amazing, I've been to this place several times in one year."

Chen Lu tried to make conversation, since the old man had just narrowly escaped death and probably didn't like being alone.

“I came over once when my girlfriend was in a coma due to low blood sugar, and then again recently when I came to visit the girl who jumped into the river.”

"The girl who jumped into the river? The one who jumped into the riverbank in the news a while ago?"

"Yes, my friend and I went into the water and pulled him out."

"Well done," Professor Yin praised him for the first time. "But if you encounter something like this again, leave it to the professionals."

Chen Lu chuckled, "How many things could possibly happen to me?"

"Look at you, you don't see anyone every day. Everyone knows that it's useless to flatter you. Now that you're sick, there's not even anyone willing to take care of you."

Chen Lu couldn't help but sigh softly, "Professors at your level, even with just a minor cold, would probably have their wards packed with visitors."

As their relationship grew closer, Chen Lu became much more casual in his speech.

Professor Yin spat, "It's all about self-interest and hypocrisy."

"The world is in turmoil, everyone is chasing after profit. Who still has the sincerity to treat others these days?" Chen Lu said softly. "To put it bluntly, interpersonal relationships are just an exchange of interests, and most people are like that."

Although he gets along well with the old man now and doesn't want anything from him, he still can't deny that he was just like everyone else at the beginning, coming here to ask for favors.

“My wife is not like that,” Professor Yin retorted coldly, then simply stared at the ceiling, lost in thought.

After a moment of silence, he said in a deep voice, "It's just that she's gone."

Chen Lu was in a daze for a moment, feeling that Professor Yin, whose face was always capable, suddenly looked much more haggard, and there was a glimmer of light in his eyes, which quickly disappeared.

"Go back." After a while, Professor Yin waved his hand at him.

"Since I'm already here, I'll wait until your child gets back tomorrow morning before I leave."

"You have a partner but you don't spend time with them, instead you're spending time with an old man like me who's almost in the grave. Are you crazy? Go back home." The old man was incredibly stubborn and never listened to anyone's advice.

Chen Lu let out a deep breath and slowly stood up. "Then I'll come see you again tomorrow."

"Let's talk about it when we really have nothing else to do. I have the government to take care of me. When the caregivers come, there will be plenty of trouble. It won't hurt if you're not here."

Being relentlessly chased, Chen Lu had no choice but to turn around and leave.

Just as he reached the door, he suddenly heard Professor Yin call his name again.

"Didn't you already ask all the questions you wanted to ask? Why do you keep coming here?"

Professor Yin's somewhat aged face was filled with speechlessness. It had been more than two months, and he had clearly stopped helping, but Chen Lu still came to him every now and then, as if he had suddenly gained a grandson.

Chen Lu looked at him helplessly, "If I don't go to your house to see you, won't you even have someone to play chess with?"

After saying that, he waved his phone in his hand and said with a wicked smile, "From now on, leave your emergency contact number with me. Aunt Zheng only earns a fixed salary and can't take on the responsibility of looking after someone as important as you."

"Then I'll be going now. You should get some rest."

Professor Yin stared at the closed door for a moment, then let out a cold snort.

You brat, you were just saying "the world is bustling with people chasing after profit" a moment ago, and now you're bringing this up again.

He suddenly remembered something, realized his clothes had been changed, and began groping around for clothes. He found a photo in the inside pocket of his jacket and was relieved.

The photo is black and white with low resolution. The girl in the photo has two braids and a bright smile.

"I had another brush with death, but I didn't make it."

The only sound in the quiet ward was the old man's soft muttering, his tone full of resentment.

"I've lived almost twenty years longer than you, and you really don't want me to go and join you?"

After a while, he felt a little thirsty and, not wanting to bother the nurse, simply endured it.

He turned his head and suddenly noticed two glasses of water on the bedside table, just within easy reach.

He then remembered that Chen Lu had secretly poured it down while they were chatting.

But Huiru...

I met a young man, and this rascal is just as kind-hearted as you.

......

Chen Lu arrived home at four in the morning.

The moon was bright and the stars were few; the cold wind was biting.

The lighting in the old residential area is not very good. At this time, only one light hanging at the entrance of the building is still on, illuminating a faint light.
